32 | AFTER ACTION REPORT - It didn't take long for enemy a/c to show up. A FW got past the 52nd, diving straight down on us. He missed us and wheeled to come in from our 10:30 low, which put him in the sights of 6 very accurate 50 cals. He disappeared in a fireball. - Over Hungary we saw bombs falling through the formation. - (Random Event #12 - Bad Lufftwaffe Communications: remove on fighter from each wave) On our bomb run we took some flak damage to the starboard wing root. BB Dean felt it was a good drop. - Heading for home we ran into Me-110s. The 52nd got 2 and we got the other. They were followed by 2 FWs, and again our fighters distracted 2 and we got 1. - Over Yugoslavia the Mustangs chased off another 3 FWs that were nosing around. - No problems after that. Our chief wasn't pleased with the big hole in our wing, but there wasn't much else wrong with our a/c. Fighter cover was outstanding; they drove off 8 enemy a/c and my guys nailed the 3 that got past them. A decent bomb drop and not the crew came home healthy. We took some flak damage, but overall that was a good day! | |||||||
