| Playstation Dual Analog/Analog Joystick Controller Support Chart

| It occurred to me that very little is known about the compatibility of the original Analog Joystick (SCPH-1110) for the PlayStation (and the related "green mode" on the Dual Analog controller). As such, I'm gradually testing games in my collection to see which support the controller and which don't. I've already found some suprises - games that aren't mentioned in compatibility lists anywhere and don't mention the controller on the box or in the manual, so I suspect there's a lot more out there.
| ||||
| I can't physically test every single PSX release in history, so if you have a Dual Analog or Analog Joystick and find more games to add to this list, get in touch. You can get in touch with me in the following places:
| Twitter: | twitter.com/coldkennels
| Reddit: | reddit.com/user/Coldkennels/
| Mastodon: | @coldkennels@mastodon.social
| Please make sure that any reports include the region and the controller used (Analog Joystick or Dual Analog) for completeness' sake.
| ||||
| As I live in the UK, all games are PAL-UK releases unless noted otherwise. I assume support will be the same across all regions, but if you get a different result in a different region, please let me know.
| ||||
| Also, I own a Japanese Dual Analog (SCPH-1150), and despite what is often claimed on the internet, the vibration circuit does not work on most games. The PlayStation detects it as a totally different thing to a Dual Shock, so I'm going to include notes about which games trigger the vibration circuit and which don't.
| ||||
| Games with full analog support: | Vibration? | Notes
| Ace Combat 2 | N | ||
| Ace Combat 3 | Y | ||
| Ape Escape | N | No L3 and R3 makes some sections impossible.
| Apocalypse | N | Plays incredibly well!
| Batman: Gotham City Racer | N
| Bomberman Fantasy Race | Y | NTSC-J version doesnt support rumble in "green mode"
| Castrol Honda Superbike | N | Uses the right stick for the throttle.
| Crash Bandicoot 3 | N | ||
| Descent | ? | The only way to play Descent with analog controls.
| Formula 1 98 | N | ||
| Gran Turismo | Y | You can set accelerate and brake to the right stick for full analog control.
| Gran Turismo 2 | Y | ||
| MDK | N | ||
| Mechwarrior 2 | |||
| Metal Gear Solid | N | ||
| Michael Owen's World League Soccer 99 | N | Surprisingly well laid-out for the controller.
| Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 | N | Uses the right stick for steering, but it's either this or the neGcon!
| Quake 2 | N | Not configurable - awkward to play.
| Porsche Challenge | Y | ||
| Racing Lagoon (!) | JP version with English patch
| RayCrisis | N | US version also supports the Pocketstation!
| S.C.A.R.S | N | ||
| Sled Storm | N | ||
| Spyro the Dragon | ? | My copy no longer works, but I assume this will be supported as the sequels are. This needs confirming!
| Spyro the Dragon 2 | N | These have totally custom button layouts specifically for the Analog Joystick, making them surprisingly comfortable to play.
| Spyro the Dragon 3 | N | ||
| Star Wars Demolition | N
| Supercross 2000 | N | Works, but the game is terrible.
| Syphon Filter | N | Default button mapping is awkward, but it's easy to change. Game plays well once set up correctly.
| Syphon Filter 2 | N | ||
| Syphon Filter 3 | N | ||
| Tempest X3 | N | Works, but is set to auto-fire for some reason...?
| Test Drive 4 | N | NTSC-J has no support; NTSC-U and PAL versions full support
| Vigilante 8 | N | ||
| Wing Over 2 | N | ||
| ||||
| ||||
| Special Cases: | Games which don't work fully, but are worth noting
| Armored Core | N | Digital mode only, but controls map well to the button layout.
| 007: The World Is Not Enough | N | All of these support analog mode... but not the joystick. You have to use the digital hat switch. Why would anyone design a game to use the controller this way?!
| 007: Tomorrow Never Dies | N
| Crash Team Racing | N | ||
| Diablo | N | ||
| FIFA '99 | Y | ||
| FIFA 2000 | Y | ||
| FIFA 2001 | Y | ||
| Klonoa | N | ||

| Resident Evil: Director's Cut
| Resident Evil 2 | N | ||
| Street Fighter Alpha 3 | Y
| Tony Hawk's Pro Skater | N | These support the analog mode but are unplayable, as the game doesn't recognise any button inputs. Full analog control, though!
| Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 | N
| Bishi Bashi Special 3 Step Champ (JP) | N | These support the analog mode but don't use the sticks or hat switch - just the buttons.
| Salary Man Champ (JP) | N
| World's Scariest Police Chases | N | Works with full analog steering... if you load the game with a Dual Shock connected and on analog mode first and swap controllers over.
| ||||
| Vibration with no analog mode support:
| Bomberman World | Y | ||
| Initial D | Y | JP-only | |
| Resident Evil 3: Nemesis | Y
| Wangan Trial | Y | JP-only - doesn't even support Dual Shock, so why does it vibrate?
| ||||
| ||||
| ||||
| ||||
| Tested, doesn't support the controller in any way:
| 007 Racing | Don't ask why some of these have been tested - usually I was just playing a game and gave it a go while it was on! I'm putting this info here just so I don't try the combination again.

| Air Combat | |||
| Area 51 | |||
| Bust a Groove | |||
