| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| How do athletes earn Regional Ranking Points?
| At each Qualification Event (QE), competitors earn Ranking Points based on what place they finish in their category at the QE (see below for points for the top 40 places; the complete 80-place table can be found in Rules section 13.1).
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Rank | Points | Rank | Points | Rank | Points | Rank | Points | Rank | Points | Rank | Points | Rank | Points | Rank | Points

| What happens if one or more athletes tie in a category at a QE?
| Tied competitors are awarded the average of the points allocated for the tied rank positions, rounded down. Example: a 3-way tie for 2nd place results in 701 points for each of the three (3) tied competitors, because (805+690+610) / 3 = 701.67, which is 701 when rounded down. Cases where a competitor tied for a rank at a QE are denoted with a “t” in front of their rank in the ranking spreadsheet.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| How are the Regional Rankings calculated?
| A competitor’s Regional Ranking (see tab labeled "Rankings as of ...") is based on the sum of the Ranking Points they earned at their two best QE performances, by number of Ranking Points earned. Competitors are not required to compete in more than one QE in order to be potentially eligible for Regionals.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Some athletes have an EA next to their ranking. What does that mean?
| The designation EA in the Regional Ranking is an abbreviation for "Extra Advancement" and is used to indicate athletes whose designation/status impacts the Regionals eligibility of other athletes in the same way. This includes athletes who are Regionals Pre-Qualified (PQ), National Team Eligible (NTE), National Team Ineligible (NTI), and Extra Qualified (EQ). See below for more details on these designations.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Who is eligible to compete at Regionals?
| Per section 12 of the Rulebook, an athlete may earn eligibility to compete at Youth Regionals via a few paths:
| Regionals Pre-Qualified athletes (see next tab) are International Competition Eligible (ICE) athletes who:
| - are a current World Champion, Pan American Champion, or National Champion in Boulder in either the Youth, Collegiate, or Elite Series; or
| - are a member of the U.S. Olympic Team or Elite Boulder National Team or were a member at any time in the 12 months prior to YNCH; or
| - were ranked in the top three (3) in the National Rankings in Boulder in the Youth or Elite Series at the end of the 2022-23 season; or
| - represented the US in Boulder at the 2023 Youth World Championships
| For athletes who are International Competition Eligible (ICE): to be eligbile for Regionals, they must be ranked in the top twenty-six (26) in their Region and Category’s Youth Qualification Boulder Rankings when only ICE athletes are considered and no Regionals Pre-Qualified athletes are considered.
| For athletes who are National Team Eligible (NTE) or National Team Ineligible (NTI): to be eligible for Regionals, they must be ranked at least as high as the lowest-ranked Regionals-eligible ICE athlete in their Region and Category
| More information on ICE, NTE, and NTI designations can be found in USA Climbing's National Team Eligibility Policy at usaclimbing.org/rules
| Residents of the states of Alaska and Hawaii are also pre-qualified for Regionals. Those with an active Competitor membership on the date that the final Regional Rankings are published - Friday, December 15 - are eligible to compete at the Regional championship (Alaska residents in Region 12; Hawaii residents in Region 31). Those who purchase a Competitor membership after that date (and before the close of the Registration period), must email eligibility@usaclimbing.org immediately after their purchase to activate their eligiblity.
| An athlete who moves Regions during the season and, per Rules section 12.4, has enough Ranking Points from their previous Region to qualify is Extra Qualified (EQ) and does not impact the eligibility of other athletes in their new Region.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What should I do if I believe that there is an error or omission in the Rankings?
| Send an email to eligibility@usaclimbing.org with the athlete's name, USAC region and membership number, and an explanation of what you believe to be missing or in error including the name and date of the relevant competition. Note: It might take one or two working days to receive a response. |
