11.13.19Steven SachsNSLGDr. OtsDeep Brain Stimulator for Parkinson’sABMC920-664-2149Not yetFemiSteven is a 57-year-old man with Parkinson’s that Dr. Ots placed a deep brain stimulator to take care of his tremor. He is doing well, he works and enjoying life. He also lives here in GB! I spoke with him today and he stated “sign me up”. I did touch on possibly doing a live video piece where we can have him turn the stimulator off (the patient does this himself), his tremor would return and then when it is turned back on the tremor goes away. I included a video below of essentially what happens, you get the idea. Feel free to give him a call and we can work through the details. 920-664-2149. Dr. Ots thinks this would be really cool, although he doesn’t want to be front and center. He will be there but prefers that his PA’s do the talking for him. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=DBS+for+parkinson%27s+video&&view=detail&mid=A32CF28FCF1372AE89D4A32CF28FCF1372AE89D4&&FORM=VDRVRV WBAY interviewing patient on January 31.

11.19.19Phyllis AllenNSLGDr. OtsSI Joint FusionABMC906-221-3460Not yetAshleyDr. Ots gave me a patient to utilize for a story on SI Joint Fusion. Phyllis Allen, 60. Phyllis dealt with backpain after a head-on collision that occurred in February 2019. She made the decision to see Dr. Ots in April after the pain continued to get worse. She has seen Dr. Ots for back surgery 16 years ago and had been doing really well until the car accident. Dr. Ots recommended injections for the pain and then also physical therapy. She eventually was diagnosed with SI joint dysfunction that was caused by the accident, this diagnosis is often missed. Dr. Ots recognized the problem and recommended an SI joint fusion. Before her surgery Phyllis could only walk about 100 yards to get her mail and could not stand for long periods. Sleeping was difficult, she was averaging about 3 hours of sleep per night due to the discomfort. She had her SI joint fusion surgery on October 25th and woke up from the surgery pain free. She could not believe how great she felt immediately after. She is now home, still doing some recovery and is not back to work yet. She manages 3 convenience stores in the Iron Mountain area and will return back to work after the holidays. She would love to share her story with us. SI joint dysfunction is often a missed diagnosis. She wants people to be aware that there is a surgery out there that could possibly help them. Feel free to call her at 906-221-3460. She did ask that we wait until after Thanksgiving as she has company coming into town from Iowa. Contacted 12/31/2019. She has agreed to meet with us and the interview is scheduled for 1/21/2020. She does not want to do a video piece, only a written piece. Phone interview is scheduled for 1/23/2020. Her email is twopa24692gmail.com. Illness. Rescheduling potentially for week of January 27.

12.02.19Gary KeshenaNSLGDr. EckardtThrombectomy, Bi-plane room, strokeABMC920-362-0206gkeshena@yahoo.comNot yetAlyshaHello – I have a patient that would like to share his story with us. Gary Keshena, 66 yr old, that suffered a stroke in Oct. His sister found him in the kitchen and was unable to move his right side. Lucky for him his sister was temporarily staying with he and his wife for a short time. His wife was at work during the incident. Once his sister found him she ran to get the neighbor who recognized that Gary was suffering a stroke and immediately called 911. Gary was brought to ABMC, given tPA (clot busting medication) and then taken for a thrombectomy in the BiPlane room with Dr. Eckardt. When we woke up the next morning he had regained all use of his right side and had no deficits. He was discharged to home after a short stay in the hospital and began driving just a couple of days ago. He stated he is “eternally grateful for the team that saved his life” and thankful that his stroke was recognized right away so he was able to get the time sensitive treatments. Currently he is living home and independent, his wife works 3 days a week. His biggest challenge at this time is dealing with congestive heart failure which does restrict some of his activity. He is managing that condition with medication, a pacemaker and defibrillator. Gary is a retired art teacher that lives in the Green Bay area. Phone number is 920-362-0206. He is available most days of the week but does have family coming from Indianapolis the week of Christmas.  TESTIMONIAL SCHEDULED AT BCC 2/20 @ 2 p.m. At this time he's unsure of TV/Reporter interview but I told him we could make that decision after our interview as well.
