About The Alternative StoryThe Alternative Story is a social enterprise that provides emotional wellbeing for individuals and organizations. The AltStory prides itself on being an intersectional feminist organization that pioneered the Pay-What-You-Want model for therapy in India.

Our services include offline and online counseling, easy-to-adopt mental health resources, group therapy (in multiple formats), and organizational solutions.

We also believe that an individual’s well-being is influenced by the broader context of social and organizational structures they are located in. Therefore, we encourage our clients to appreciate mental health from various perspectives and also assist them in the development of micro and macro strategies to cope with and overcome life-challenges.

What is this list?
This is a list of trainee counsellors doing their Master's in Counselling Psychology from Sampurna Montfort College (http://www.sampurnamontfort.in/) and Sampurna Institute of Advanced Studies (http://www.sampurnainstitute.com/) . The Alternative Story (www.alternativestory.in) has trained these students to provide mental health services online as a part of their practicum. Within this list, you will find the number of hours of supervised counselling the students have already completed.

How can this help me?
Many of us cannot afford therapy or require an increased number of sessions at this point. Given that these students are required to conduct therapy as a part of their practicum, their services are completely FREE of cost.

Is this really free?
Yes, irrespective of the mode of counselling, all services of these counsellors are free.

What are the qualifications of these counsellors?
The names and details you will find in this list are of 1st and 2nd year Masters students. They are doing their practicum and will be supervised by trained counsellors in their institutes. There is several studies that show that student counsellors can be just as effective as experienced counsellors.

What can the counsellors help me with?
The counselors' areas of expertise and the populations they are comfortable working with are mentioned in the list as well. Some of them are equipped to work with issues relating to children, some with LGBTQIA+ population, while some are well versed with the issues that elderly face. Most of them will be able to help with the feelings of anxiety and depression that you may be facing due to the lockdown.

Who should I report to if there is an issue of misconduct or malpractice?
In case of issues relating to the counsellors asking for payment, sexual harassment or any other misconduct, please report to 'The Director, Sampurna Montfort College/Sampurna Institute of Advanced Studies' (mail@montfortcollege.in). You can mark a cc to hello@alternativestory.in

How do I book an appointment with these counsellors?
The number and emails of the counsellors are given against their name. Please email or call them to book an appointment with them.

How do I choose a counsellor over the other?
The best judge of who your counsellor should be is you but here's a resource by the Mind Clan that can help: (https://themindclan.com/blog/corona-outbreak-responding-to-online-therapy-lists/)
