| 401 Pizza | 609 Elmwood Ave, Providence, RI 02907 | https://www.instagram.com/401pizza/ | N | 401-461-0909 | 23/3/5 | It's Greek style pizza, and it tastes good. Watched them stretch out the dough and make my pie from scratch. Sauce is good, not sweet, and the crust is a little crunchy on bottom without being particularly oily. I think they use too much cheese, and their percentage of cheddar in the cheese mix is a little high as it stretches a little oddly-and comes right off when you wanna pull out a piece - but if you're prepared to use a fork you'll be OK. The interior dining area is fine, though not exactly a super comfortable place you want to hang out, and it is handicapped accessible. They also are bilingual (Spanish/English), economical, and friendly. | 3
| A Guy and His Pie | 560 Mineral Spring Ave., Pawtucket, RI 02860 | https://www.aguyandhispie.com/ | N | 23/1/25 | I ordered the closest thing to a typical small cheese pizza, and picked it up at the appointed time (their system is really smart, it forces you to plan ahead, and that there is a button for stuff you definitely DON’T want on your pie is pretty funny). As you might expect, with a shop whose main differentiator is "Detroit" style, it was a thick moist focaccia crust, with a layer of cheese (seemed like mozzarella and something soft like a drained fresh mozzarella or ricotta as well?) , a good dollop of pre simmered red sauce, and some fresh basil. The edges weren’t quite as burned as I was hoping, and cheese probably could have used a little more salt for my taste…but unsurprisingly it was still super good. Obviously the only option is take out, though there is the possibility of bringing your pie to the drinking establishments next door. Heads up though that their entry is up a number of steps and is not handicapped accessible, so you’ll need to rely on them to bring it out to the car if you’re mobility challenged (which I suspect they’d be happy to do as they were very nice and attentive-(but you should probably confirm)). I love what these guys are doing - limiting their runs to keep quality high just like an old time bakery. Glad to support them and will do so again when I have guests who really like a thick crust. | 3

| Antonio's Pizza | 256 Thayer St, Providence, RI 02906 | https://antoniospizza.com/ | Y | 401-455-3600 | 24/2/28 | I think you can comfortably call these guys NY Style, thin crust, baked on a screen, crispy undercarriage, chewy crust, simple sauce and cheese. They do it ok. The consistency, and thickness of the crust was great, the sauce was simple, flavorful and good (if a little under oreganed for NY sauce), and cheese tasted fine…but the crust had really no flavor, and there was too much cheese for my liking. But they sell slices with tons of walk-in traffic so stuff is always fresh, and they do enough volume so they can offer up many different topping combos on slices. Their entry is on grade so is wheelchair accessible, and there is a decent amount of space to sit down in their dining area. | 3
| Bettola Pizza | 44 Rolfe Square, Cranston, RI 02910 | https://www.bettola.com/ | N | 401-522-5222 | 23/8/4 | Neapolitan style, absolutely beautiful crust, undercarriage perfection. There wasn’t as much sauce as I would expect/like, nor was it particularly flavorful, and while the cheese was very good, there was too much of it. Nice interior, great service, many other foods on the menu, and a handicapped accessible entrance around the side. I definitely see how it gets its great reputation, and for Neapolitan pizza, it’s a great choice. | 0.4
| Big Tony's Pizza | 525 Eaton St, Providence, RI 02908 | https://www.bigtonyspizzari.com/ | Y | 401-490-0000 | 23/3/15 | Probably the closest to NY Style we’ve tried - (though I think it needs more salt). Big pieces, thin crunchy crust, foldable, with structure, but chewy. Fresh sauce, and mozzarella cheese. NOT handicapped accessible, and small, jam packed dining area filled with plenty of mobster memorabilia - seems like an after school LaSalle hangout. | 3
| Blackies | 280 George Washington Hwy, Smithfield, RI 02917 | https://eatatblackies.com/ | N | (401) 231-4777 | 24/3/7 | This made our list of places to try when it appeared in a ProJo article which named it one of the 10 best in the state. It’s good, the crust is super supple, nicely leoparded underneath and tasty (Truthfully, because of the nature of the crust it was much closer to a flatbread than a pizza). The sauce is almost non-existent, you can see it’s there more than taste it. Then there is the cheese-it’s generous, seems like 100% Mozzarella, or another soft cheese-then topped with a very, very, salty parmesan that overpowers almost everything else. No joke, it’s the saltiest pizza I’ve tried. Anyway, would I be psyched if I lived in Smithfield and I could get this pizza regularly? Yes, though I’d ask them to give me the parmesan on the side. Is it worth me traveling from Providence or other towns like the Journal suggests? Probably not, it’s pretty close to Flatbread off Thayer. The staff was great, it is handicapped accessible with parking, and the decor was cozy. | 2 | closed Mondays
| Brother's Famous Pizza | 950 Broad St, Providence, RI 02905 | https://www.brothersfamouspizza.com/ | N | (401) 461-3760 | 23/3/13 | Friendly service, hard workers, good prices and handicapped accessible. As far as pizza, it's pretty regular New England, Greek style - though crust isn't really crunchy/oily/buttery at all - (probably a little underdone). | 5
| Caserta Pizzeria | 121 Spruce St., Providence, RI 02903 | https://casertapizzeria.com/ | N | (401) 272-3618 | 23/2/2 | They don’t state it, but this is Sicilian style pizza. The crust is 3/8” thick with a tight bubble formation, and a crunchy underside. The cheese looks to be mozzarella and the sauce is a simple fresh tomato mixture on top of the cheese. We did not offer any special preparation instructions, and got a perfectly serviceable pie. However, while sitting there we did hear people request “well done” so next time we’ll order that way to get more color. Staff is friendly, diverse and no nonsense. They have a small parking lot, a ramp AND an automatic door - which for a stand-alone restaurant I have to applaud! The place is very busy with maybe 80% getting their food to go, but there is also plenty of space if you choose to sit. A pleasure to uphold this tradition, and I hope they are here for another 70 years! | 4 | Open Tu-Sa @ 5pm
| Cassarino's Restaurant | 177 Atwells Ave, Providence, RI 02903 | https://www.cassarinosri.com/ | N | (401) 751-3333 | 24/3/13 | Closest they had to our pie specifications was the Margherita, so that’s what we got. Crust left something to be desired, it was slightly burnt but even were it not burnt it didn’t really seem like it’d be that appealing. The sauce was simple and good, could probably have been more flavorful, but you could taste it unlike many other places. What was really well done though was the cheese, fresh drained mozzarella topped with parmesan -in just the right amount-and basil. Though that crust makes me think other stuff on the menu might be a better pick. They have valet service out front, and while the front door seemed like it’d be a real hassle to get a wheelchair through, it is at grade. | 3
| Cisco's Pizza | 361 Reservoir Ave, Providence, RI 02907 | https://www.facebook.com/people/Ciscos-Pizza/100043654555998/ | Y | (401) 941-6040 | 24/2/1 | It’s in a strip mall, which doesn’t bode well, but the dining area is actually very welcoming, and homey…which probably has a lot to do with the staff who were pretty great, and it’s also handicapped accessible. The pizza itself was good, like almost all pizza is good, but not spectacular. Cheese was a mild mix(too much of it for my tastes), there was very very little sauce(too little of it for my tastes), and the crust was very soft and not crusty anywhere even along the edge (which was equivalent to a soft breadstick). Overall it was too well done on top, but not well enough on bottom…but the pizza was fine, and the place and staff were so welcoming that it was actually pretty great. | 3.5
| Costantino's Venda Bar & Ristorante | 265 Atwells Ave, Providence, RI 02903 | https://costantinosristorante.com/ | N | (401)-528-1100 | 24/1/11 | A Neapolitan pizza, fresh mozzarella, simple uncooked sauce, and a delicate crust. Delicious. Probably too much liquid for the crust to hold, as it was a little soupy and saggy in the middle (though we did contribute to this problem by getting it to go), but everything tasted great, especially at the crust’s edge. Handicapped accessible, and a comfortable, polished, welcoming interior. | 2.5

| Downcity Pizza | 53 Weybosset St. Providence, RI 02903 | https://www.Downcitypizza.com | N | 401-533-9696 | 23/3/30 | This is a brand new place as of 2023, and they are still figuring things out, but they are super nice, eager to please, and it's pizza so it's good - especially if you're downtown for lunch. That said, their recipe for pizza isn't at this time what I would consider all that great. It does seem like good mozzarella cheese, and while the crust tastes under proofed, it wasn't bad, it had a nice mix of bubble sizes and slightly crusty underneath (though the center of the pie did droop under all the cheese so it wasn't that structural-could also have been too much cheese). The sauce though was pretty bad, seemed pre-simmered, slightly sweet, and generally pretty tasteless. They may wanna rethink that, and they may wanna rethink not serving up slices so they can attract a lunchtime crowd. Frustratingly, the building is not handicapped accessible, requiring the ascension of several stairs to get in. I have no doubt the owners would bring stuff out if requested to do so, but it is disappointing to have to do that much more work to get your lunch. Anyway, they are good guys and I wish them the best, it's great to have another pizza place downtown. | 3
| Excellent Pizza | 255 Reservoir Ave, Providence, RI 02907 | https://www.excellentpizzamenu.com | N | (401) 409-5375 | 23/4/20 | It's pizza, so chances are it is good...though the owner's cheerful, welcoming attitude makes it taste better than it probably is. I think they're going for Greek style, tight uniform bubble medium thick crust, cooked in a pan...though they didn't use any oil on the bottom of the pan - so it was more like a biscuit than the typical Greek crust - though it was proofed well. The sauce was fresh and slightly tangy, and while there was too much cheese for me (so it slid off upon pulling out a piece), I can only assume many folks like a lot of cheese since this style of pizza proliferates. It is handicapped accessible, however there are no tables, just a counter and barstools. | 4.5
| Fellini Pizzeria | 166 Wickenden St, Providence, RI 02903 | https://www.fellinipizzeria.com/ | Y | (401) 751-6737 | 23/1/28 | *I'm biased having eaten here since it opened some 30 years ago. Today I ordered just a piece as I was by myself. It's a simple fresh tomato sauce, not sweet, nor peppery. The cheese was applied in a moderate amount. The crust though is more complicated, I've ordered this many times for delivery and the VERY thin nature of the crust ensures that the wetness of the sauce/cheese penetrates the crust while it is boxed up and renders the crust floppy/messy (still good though - you can see this phenomenon in the photos, the tip folded over when it was taken out to the oven (though the outer edge was fine)). Ordered to dine in as a full pie and eaten while hot is the way to go if you can - it's a great crust, slightly crispy, yet foldable. Remarkably, it also seems to be at least partially composed of whole wheat flour. Location is great, neighborhood is good to walk around in, and there is usually parking somewhere around, though they don't have a designated lot. Its entrance is on grade, so it is handicapped accessible, and while there is a public bathroom it is not ADA. Cooks here started both Nice Slice on Westminster St., and the Pizza Foundation in Marfa, TX - they care about quality. They can give some attitude on occasion, but I've also seen people behind the counter be compassionate enough to give slices to the downtrodden. Either way they are a Providence fixture, and they've always made great pizza. Do it, but try to eat dine in if you can. | 0.4

They make a pie that is a thin, whole wheat(?) crust that's slightly crusty, and sparse enough on toppings where the tangy sauce and cheese cook and fuse while baking (so thankfully it is NOT another place serving up a bed of cheese on top of a lake of sauce). Moreover they are handicapped accessible, family friendly, have a bar, college friendly, and stalwart benefactors of the community. It's a great mixing of populations, and great food. If you can go on a Tuesday night, you're almost sure to be benefiting some worthy cause. | 0.5
| Francesco's Pizzeria | 357 Hope St, Providence, RI 02906 | https://francescospvd.com/ | Y | (401) 751-0355 | 23/3/29 | *My review of them suffers from my having eaten Roma on Atwells just two days prior - which was eye opening excellent pizza and ruined my grading curve* Francescos sauce is great, tangy and fresh. Their crust though was flat, and not in a good NYC style flat, it just had no variation of bubble, and under proofed in flavor (though the undercarriage was slightly crispy and it did have decent structure). The cheese was all mozzarella, and not super greasy...there was just slightly too much of it for my taste. Their setup is handicapped accessible, and even has a door that opens in, but they have no dining room or place to sit if you were hoping for one. It's pizza, ya know, it's delicious - and this is way better than any of the chains nearby - you could do far worse. | 3.5

| Golden Crust Pizza | 369 Douglas Ave, Providence, RI 02908 | https://www.gcrust.com/ | Y | 401-273-2288 | 23/5/2 | It’s a nice place to sit down inside, they have a collection of dessert bakery offerings, and they now even have a small ice cream counter/parlor as well. The owners seem to be joyful, engaging, and eager to please, and the shop is handicapped accessible. The pizza itself is incredibly filling, I had difficulty finishing one slice. it was big, but also absolutely laden with cheese. It is a calorie dense pie, so I can see real value to it if you’re up late at night studying, or pre-emptively trying to limit the alcohol you are able to imbibe by downing a slice (or 2 if possible). As far as the pizza itself, it wouldn’t be my go to. The crust was underproofed, homogeneous small bubble, and pretty dry. The sauce was heavily flavored, and precooked, and while it wasn’t bad, or sweetened it wasn’t particularly flavorful either. The cheese tasted fine, but the amount they piled on was brutal for my tastes. I love that they’ve invested so much into this new location along Douglas Ave, and while it may not be my taste in pizza, there are many things to warrant a visit here that have nothing to do with the pies. | 5

They aren't breaking the mold on pizza, where they shine is: -they're an economical option on this section of Hope Street. -they are involved in the community -their dining room/bar area is a welcoming place for Providence locals and families to hang out. It's not fancy, but it's handicapped accessible, and they are friendly and helpful. | 4

The crust though had a consistency almost like it had been made using a coarse unconventional pizza flour. It was tough, dry, and not particularly flavorful. The cheese was fresh mozzarella, which was pretty mild and unremarkable - but those tomatoes, wow. Service was great, other dishes were all hits, ambiance was great, and entry was handicapped accessible. | 3.5
| Jeff's Pizza | 127 Waterman Ave, East Providence, RI 02914 | https://www.jeffswoodfiredpizza.com/ | N | 401 537 7500 | 23/2/11 | This is excellent pizza. New Haven/Neapolitan style. The crust is proofed long enough for great flavor, medium thick (+/- ¼”) baked long enough for good color and structure but still chewy. The sauce is tangy and fresh done in moderate amounts. And the cheese is done reasonably so it really fuses with sauce in the bake. It’s really good. Comparable to Pizza Marvin with an eye towards EP clientele, not college students. Sadly, there is a step to get in so it is inaccessible to folks in chairs. It’s too bad because the vibe is neighborhood shop with a simple/modern decor where you want to hang out with friends - I wish it was more welcoming to the handicapped. Highly recommend. | 0.05

It’s pizza, so it tastes ok, but the crust is thick, lightly oiled, the sauce tastes pre-simmered, and the cheese is pretty thick. It’s pretty pedestrian Greek style pizza. The website looks like once upon a time they served pizza more similar to NY Style but perhaps there’s new ownership - I don’t know. That said they have a nice mural on the wall, decor that at some point they invested in, and a handicapped accessible entrance. | 10
| Little Caesars | 539 Smith St, Providence, RI 02908 | https://littlecaesars.com/en-us/ | N | (401) 421-2217 | 24/3/14 | It’s a heavily oregano seasoned sauce. You like it or you don’t. 33 | Mighty Mike's | 277 Thayer St, Providence, RI 02906 | https://mightymikespizzari.com/ | Y | 401-337-9202 | 23/4/7 | Crust is a consistent tight bubble relatively thin (1/4” +/-) with a delicate fried like crunch on bottom, sauce is pre-simmered and seasoned though bland, cheese is overly generous and floats above sauce, but not crazy over generous. It’s good, it’s filling, it’s not super expensive. It’s also handicapped accessible, though parking can be a challenge on Thayer Street. | 4
| Milano's Pizza | 659 Smith St, Providence, RI 02908 | https://www.milanospizzamenu.com/?utm_source=gbp | N | 401-337-8619 | 23/2/8 | You're driving down Smith Street, there's a small brick commercial structure, with a big Brick Oven Pizza sign, and a courtyard filled with tables and chairs. You might think "ooh, a nice old family pizzeria". You might see the other reviews here and the general disparagement and notice that they almost all revolve around the delivery process, You might think "ooh, an old family pizzeria who hasn't quite figured out delivery yet". But that building is nice, and the entry is at grade so wheelchairs can get in - I'll go in person and eat there - problem solved. Nope. It's a convenience store inside with an oven in the back. There is no place to sit down inside. Pizza is almost universally OK, and here it is OK too. Crust is better than I expected but not anything spectacular the sauce is fresh tomato and not sweetened - however the amount of cheese they put on makes those other concerns almost irrelevant. There is a lot of cheese, and it's pretty greasy. Of course, if you like a lot of cheese, this may be the place for you. As we waited for our pie I roamed the convenience store and I noticed something odd: almost NONE of the stuff in the refrigeration units has prices listed, (nor did the menu board where you order the pizzas (to be fair online does, as does their printed menu)). This is actually illegal. I watched as PC kids came in, grabbed their stuff and paid with their card with no information on the price/cost. You got the feeling that this place exists to separate as many dollars as possible from students who aren't used to comparative shopping. Pizza was ok, but the place overall felt rapacious. | 5
| Minerva Pizza | 20 S Angell St, Providence, RI 02906 | https://www.minervapizza.com/ | N | 401-272-2279 | 23/3/24 | I like a lot of things about Minerva Pizza. They are a stalwart of Wayland Square, and offer better value there than any other eatery. I love their handicapped accessible building, their signage, their interior, their family like staff, and their family friendly vibe. Pizza isn't bad either, mostly because it's (surprise) pizza. It's a pretty conventional style, and while I think the crust wasn't crusty enough, and maybe was proofed too long for my tastes, it was still good. Sauce is good (not sweet), and while too much cheese for my tastes, it wasn't an egregious amount. A great little neighborhood pizza place. | 4
| Mirano Grill & Pizza | 600 Douglas Ave, Providence, RI 02908 | https://miranopizza.net/ | Y | 401-351-1819 | 23/10/26 | Pizza usually has to be somewhat good, and it is. I can definitely see having this as a late night emergency food (they’re open until 3:30), or someone close to you is nostalgic for this kind of pie, or you have young kids whose tastes run towards the pizza at a Chuck E Cheese, and you want to get something close to that, or you have family coming in from a pizza desert and don’t want to freak them out. In short, people have different tastes and they were fast and friendly enough - and priced similarly to their nearby competition. For my tastes though there is too much (cheddar?) cheese, there either isn’t enough sauce, or it’s just very bland, and the crust was on the thinner side, but almost didn’t seem hand made, nor was it baked long enough to give any kind of rigidity or interesting flavor. This kind of pizza definitely has fans and a market -so I don't want to knock it - but I’m not it. The facilities themselves are difficult to reach, and there a couple places to sit, but it’s engineered as a storefront not a restaurant. You could probably get a wheelchair in there but the parking lot is tiny w/ no handicapped parking, and the location is a very busy intersection where it’d be difficult to park on a close by street. | 5

Pizza is OK, probably better than most of the places up in the Providence College area of the city, though I'm still working my way through. Cheese is a little too generous for my tastes, you can see in the pictures that it really is thick enough that it floats above the sauce. The sauce is really though where I think they fall short, it is extremely oregano(y) and tastes like a commercial sauce. Where there pizza is really good though is the crust, it's thinner than most, has some structure, and - as you can see in the photos - is baked to a beautiful leoparding on the bottom. But, they are a friendly bunch and seem eager to please, you could do far worse for a convenient college pizzeria, and they sell BIG slices which is super convenient. | 3.5

Crust was also what was promised, NYC style, smooth and crispy on the bottom slightly chewy, with enough structure that it holds up well when folded. I think it was a bit under-proofed, but it was a solid crust. Sauce though was pretty bland though, and the cheese seemed to have an odd consistency although it didn't taste bad. I mean, it's pizza, it's good, I finished my two slices if that tells you anything. | 3 | Weekend evenings only

If though I had to rate on the pizza alone, it'd be 1 star *. I'm of the mind on pizza you can screw up the sauce, the cheese or both to a certain extent and still have half decent pizza if the crust is good. But if the crust is bad, you have no shot. Their crust is pretty bad, it tastes like it's been baked, frozen then reheated with fresh toppings. They designate it as a flatbread, so maybe I'm not cutting them enough slack, but it was exceptionally poor crust. Their sauce was really nice fresh and tangy, and the parmesan on top was super flavorful and delicious. The softer cheese though was a little gummy looking, and while it tasted OK it just wasn't worth it..I threw most of it out. It is handicapped accessible, with parking outside, and you simply cannot beat it if you want to hang out on a beautiful day. | 6
| New England Pizza | 451 Manton Ave Providence, Ri 02909 | Http://newenglandpizzari.com | N | 401-537-7482 | 23/4/24 | My expectations weren’t high. Greek style isn’t my favorite type of pizza (dough stretched and baked in a pan lined with oil, small uniform bubbles in the crust, a lot of cheese). And this is New England Greek style pizza, but it’s the best of this type I’ve had so far since this “try every pizza place in Providence” quest. The crust has some small variety of bubble sizes, it’s not over proofed, it had a very delicate crunch on the underside despite being structural enough it held up the pie, it also was airier than any Greek place I’ve tried so far, but not nearly as thick or prebaked like a Sicilian. The Sauce was fresh and tangy, the cheese was fine and while more than I would do, it wasn’t a thick blanket of goo either. If I wanted New England Greek style in the city, I’d go here. It was also handicapped accessible, there is street parking out front and there are no hills if you need to park around the corner, clean and simple interior with places to sit. The folks working were attentive and no nonsense. If you go to Chilangos (next door) and their wait is too long to stave off your hunger, you can do far worse than New England Pizza. | 1.5
| Nice Slice Pizzeria | 767 Westminster St, Providence, RI 02903 | http://niceslice.com/ | Y | 401-453-NICE | 23/4/14 | Their crust is pretty spectacular. Thin, proofed for great flavor, bubbles of various sizes, baked long enough for a delicately crispy undercarriage, but still chewy - fantastic. They advertise/disclose/admit that they use a mix of mozzarella and cheddar-which was a delicate mix, and very good if slightly too much for the amount of sauce they use - Because they don’t use very much sauce, and what sauce there is wasn’t that flavorful. It felt a little like eating cheese on (an admittedly fantastic) crust. It’s truly a great crust, totally worth trying, but I suspect getting a strong flavored topping would be a better proposition here than just cheese. It is handicapped accessible, and there is handicapped street parking right out front. | 0.2
| Olympic Pizza | 1323 Broad St, Providence, RI 02905 | https://www.olympicpizzaofprovidence.com/?utm_source=gbp | N | 401-756-1078 | 23/4/18 | I was a little late picking up my pizza, so I can’t definitively say the crust was soggy with oil…but it was by the time I got to picking it up. You can see the parchment paper on the bottom of the box in my photos. That said it seemed proofed pretty well, tight bubbles throughout, and they baked it long enough to get some browning underneath. It is Greek style, and deluged with Cheese, and I’d love to tell you about the sauce, but it was almost non-existent. I really do like English Muffins with butter, and cheese on top…but when I order a pizza that isn’t exactly what I want to be reminded of as I eat it. This pizza was like that. It tasted good, I ate a couple pieces, it was exceptionally filling, but I didn’t really taste the sauce at all. It is accessible, though the passageway in would present some difficulty with turning a chair or walker…I’d probably either get it delivered, or ask the folks (who were all VERY nice and personable (I'm rooting for them)) to come out and hand it to you. | 4

| Piemonte Pizza | 114 Doyle Ave, Providence, RI 02906 | https://piemontepizza.com/ | N | 401-273-0999 | 23/3/17 | We get pizza from here more often than anywhere. It's relatively close, though there are closer places...but its where the family finds the best compromise (and their fries are great). Crust is relatively thin, and not oily, sauce is fresh and not sweet, and they don't overload it with cheese which appears to be all mozzarella. It's a solid pizza, appealing to kids and adults alike. It's not handicapped accessible, though the visibility out front makes me believe they would take stuff out to your car if you wanted (and they deliver FAST in my experience). The dining area is pretty small, and basically just a waiting room. | 2
| Pizza Coin | 1005 Smith St, Providence, RI 02908 | https://www.pizzacoinri.com/ | N | (401) 249-4352 | 23/2/3 | A pleasure to talk to these folks, and it's clear that they care about their customers and their product. The Pizza aims to be NY Style, and while one can quibble with what the platonic ideal of NY Style pizza is, this pie is in that neighborhood. A crust +/-1/4" thick, a little chewy, but with some mild crunchiness both on the edge, and underneath. Sauce was fresh, seasoned well and slightly peppery (not sweet). Cheese was mozzarella and while generous it didn't entirely smother the sauce. Delicious. The entry though for anyone in a wheelchair or walker is tough. There are two steps - one at the door, and another a couple feet in. You will likely be helped by the able bodied folks working there - as they truly are unbelievably nice - but I know it's exhausting always relying on others, and that sometimes giving strangers the gift to be chivalrous towards you is just hard. I am not familiar enough with NYC pizza to tell you how this rates vs all the various "Rays", but I suspect it would do respectable business in NYC, because A. the pizza is good, and B. the folks behind the counter are great folks. | 2
| Pizza J | 967 Westminster St, Providence, RI 02903 | https://pizzajprovidence.com/ | Y | (401)-632-0555 | 24/1/27 | There are a lot of signs within the restaurant talking about their crusts-with good reason, the crust is great, and watching the cook/chef prepare the beautiful looking dough is mesmerizing. But I was not a fan of their sauce. It tasted a little too cooked down, a little tomato pasty, a little sweet, and under seasoned - not so great. Similarly the cheese was a little heavy (though NOT greasy) and tasted like it was cut with a little too much cheddar. Though I should also disclose my wife REALLY liked the whole package. It’s handicapped accessible, with a relaxed fun atmosphere, a full bar and they have plenty of comparably priced vegan options. | 2.5
| Pizza Marvin | 468 Wickenden St, Providence, RI 02903 | https://www.pizzamarvin.com/ | N | (401) 262-3336 | 23/1/29 | Their differentiator when they opened was they served "New Haven" stye pizza (yeah, I know, apizza), and it's pretty close if they would only cook their pizzas for another 90 seconds for that New Haven char - though I suspect they had enough customers complaining about the char that they scaled back their cooking times from their opening days (one must accomodate). Still, crust is proofed long enough for great flavor and baked for enough time that still has structure and crispness despite me being late for pick up, sauce is simple, fresh, tart, and there is just enough cheese that when it melts it fuses with the sauce and doesn't sit on top of it like icing. It's my favorite type of pizza, and I love this place. My bone to pick with them is accessibility, you must surmount a step to get into the place so if you're in a wheechair or walker by yourself you're probably not getting in (if you have a companion that can help you get up to the step to the landing they have made the provision for the front door to swing in away from the landing so you can gain entry), they also have a pick up window during warmer months so entry isn't required. It would be great if they could leverage some of the ample outside dining area and forge a ramp. Their interior is pretty simple and clean and they have the best merchandise. | 0.1
| Pizza Pie-er | 374 Wickenden St, Providence, RI 02903 | https://www.pizzapie-er.com/ | N | 401-351-3663 | 23/3/3 | It’s an interesting place, in that their toppings are varied, and they have an upscale brand, but I think it’s really pretty much another New England Greek style place with a thicker oily crust, more sauce, and more cheese than NY Style. Not that it isn’t enjoyable- it is. Especially if you’re totally cool with using a fork, and truthfully it is more filling than some of its other competition on Wickenden Street (Pizza Marvin and Fellinis). It isn’t handicapped accessible, but you’re probably better off getting delivery anyway as the dining area isn’t anything to write home about. | 4
| Pizza Queen | 215 Weybosset St, Providence, RI 02903 | https://www.pizzaqueenonline.com/ | Y | (401) 351-2500 | 23/4/16 | The pizza is OK. The crust wasn't over-proofed and wants to be Greek (tight uniform bubble), but it isn't particularly crunchy at the bottom despite being oiled up pretty good. The sauce is good and fresh. There is too much cheese that just slides off when you pull out a piece if the pizza is still hot. You can get better pizza close by. But the contempt for customers is almost palpable, I don't really get how they stay in business. On the plus side, it is handicapped accessible, and it is nice to sit downtown across from PPAC. | 4.5
| Pizza Roma | 1092 Chalkstone Ave, Providence, RI 02908 | https://www.orderpizzaromamenu.com/?utm_source=gbp | N | 401-272-2700 | 23/4/13 | This is unaffiliated with Roma on Atwells. The owners were very kind to us, and eager to please. My son got the Chicken wings which he enjoyed, and they have a window just for milkshakes as all civilized businesses should have. They state that they are doing NY style, and I didn’t get that from the pie that was brought us, as it wasn’t nearly as crusty on the bottom as it needed to be (it was a little under done), and the cornicione wasn’t wide enough. That said, the crust was on the thin side, and the bubbles were small, dense and uniform. The sauce tasted pretty fresh, and the cheese wasn’t overwhelming though so it was still an enjoyable experience. It is NOT handicapped accessible, and while I know the owners would extend help to anyone who needs it, you aren’t missing much by not eating there. | 4
| Pizzeria Gusto | 259 Broadway, Providence, RI 02903 | https://pizzeriagustopvd.com/Menus | Y | 401-490-7272 | 23/4/3 | It ‘s pizza so it’s pretty good. Staff wasn’t especially friendly or attentive. Crust is consistently tightly bubbled, relatively thin, and oh so slightly over proofed to my taste. Sauce is fine but nothing remarkable, cheese is slightly generous and has the tell tale taste and browning of cheddar in the mix. It’s a very small eating area, and is not handicapped accessible. It tastes good, and is filling, but nothing to write home about. | 4
| Pizzico | 762 Hope St, Providence, RI 02906 | https://pizzicooysterbar.com/ | N | (401) 421-4114 | 23/6/20 | This is a really great restaurant, but I’d get something different than the pizza. Got the Margherita as the closest to a classic cheese, and if was naturally good being pizza, but the crust was basically a grilled flatbread that didn’t really seem all that fresh (or supple), and there was too much cheese. Strong garlic taste which obviously is good, and the tomatoes and basil were fine. Get something different than the pizza. Fortunately there are a lot of different options to choose from, and it is handicapped accessible. | 4
| Plant City-Double Zero | 334 South Water St | https://www.plantcitypvd.com/double-zero | N | 14014292029 | 23/4/22 | You know walking in that it isn’t going to be real cheese, and that’s ok. The amount of greenhouse gasses emitted, the amount of water used to produce feed, and the cruelty involved in making cheese make it a product that it would be great to have a suitable replacement for. But at the prices here you’d assume that the crust, and the sauce will be superb as neither require animal products. And while it ain’t mozzarella, cashew cheese is mild enough that it really won’t get in the way. Your assumptions though would be wrong, the crust is pretty cracker like, with little chewiness or moisture, and the sauce is really pretty bland (albeit not sweetened). Cashew cheese is inoffensive taste or consistency wise but not the greatest appearance….feel like applying it in drizzle as if it were ranch dressing would be a better look. I admire their stated mission, but their pizza place is on the second floor with no handicapped access, and their attitude/service ain’t spectacular. I dunno. | 7 | Vegetarian cashew mozzarella
| Providence Coal Fired Pizza | 385 Westminster St, Providence, RI 02903 | https://www.providencecoalfiredpizza.com/ | N | 401.454.7499 | 23/6/29 | This is good pizza. The dough seems like it could ferment a little longer so it had more flavor, but the undercarriage is always perfect, it is very thin (and never structural). With a beautiful edge that is crispy and supple. Their tomato sauce is very good, fresh and tart (though I feel like it used to be chunkier, and more flavorful?), and the cheese is just some mild fresh mozzarella. Delicious. (Maybe even as delicious as their Butterscotch pudding which is close to one of the best things on earth). Service is great, the atmosphere is great, and it is handicapped accessible. | 1
| PVD Pizza | 1035 Douglas Ave, Providence, RI 02904 | https://www.pvdpizza.com/ | N | 401-654-4466 | 23/1/25 | Their main listed differentiator on their menu is that their cheese blend on top of all their pies is a mozzarella cheddar blend. It’s a pretty mild cheddar however so its main impact was its color, being much browner than any pizza I can recall. The sauce amount was generous, and neither spicy, nor sweet, but thick like a pre-simmered marinara. The crust seemed a pretty typical oil enriched Greek pizza* crust, that was good (but most pizza is good). The dining area is filled with TVs, and is about 1/2 bar, the decor is not self conscious or fancy - especially for what I suspect is it’s prime time: during games. It's also handicapped accessible though the entry has a sharp turn that may be challenging for some wheelchair users, and at least the men’s bathroom was not ADA. We got table service, and the folks we dealt with were very kind and diligent, and took good care of us. Seems like a great place to catch a game, and good people working there that you're happy to support. *https://www.seriouseats.com/new-england-greek-style-pizza | 3
| Regina's Kitchen | 53 Ashburton St. Providence, RI 02904 | https://order.toasttab.com/online/snookersri | N | 4013517665 | 24/2/29 | This was an interesting pie because the crust is thick, like ⅜” and pan baked. Sauce was simple, and tasted pretty fresh, and the cheese…well you can see in the photos, they give you a lot of cheese. It was cooked through fine, but I couldn’t help thinking that letting it bake for a couple more minutes would let the underside get more crunchy and get the cheese to be more viscous. The interior itself is pretty nice, seems like a great place to watch sports. There is a parking lot close to the door, and the entry is on grade if you’re in a chair. | 3.5
| Revival Brewing and Lost Valley Pizza | 50 Sims Ave, Providence, RI 02909 | https://lostvalleypizza.com/ | N | (401)-302-4166 | 23/4/15 | The service we received here was fantastic, and it’s handicapped accessible, though the hours are wonky (their app, website, and phone message all give different times when they are open) - whether they are open for lunch on the day in question is a crapshoot. The pizza is definitely above average, sauce is delicious, interesting and spicy, while the thin crust is proofed beautifully with a range of bubble sizes. Cooking was a little funky though as the undercarriage wasn’t crusty or leoparding while the cornicione was charring in spots, and their special cheese blend looked a little gummy to me (but tasted fine). It’s pizza so it’s good, and the servers are great, so you know…probably worth trying. They also have a lot of vegetarian/vegan fare, and their decor is industrial fun. | 1.9
| Rita's Pizza | 496 Cranston St #2745, Providence, RI 02907 | https://www.ritaspizzamenu.com/ | N | (401) 543-2140 | 23/12/7 | You know, it’s not bad. Crust was pretty unremarkable but good (baked in greased pan style like so many), the cheese seemed to be a mozzarella Cheddar blend was average, nice color, mild taste, but where this place does seem particularly different is the sauce which (while a little sweet) was really well seasoned and not like any other I’ve tried. Their specialty seems to be a “Dominican Pizza” with that has ham, corn in addition to cheese - so I suspect the sauce is likewise Carribean inspired. Friendly, on time service, can’t complain and getting in with a wheelchair will be a little difficult but not impossible (there’s a short steep “ramp” right at the front door, that’s really more like a short step). | 3 | closed mondays
| Roma Ristorante | 310 Atwells Ave, Providence, RI 02903 | https://www.romapizzaprovidence.com/ | Y | 401-331-5000 | 23/3/27 | That this place isn't often mentioned as the best pizza in the city puzzles me. The crust is light, airy, crispy, and the medium sized air pockets throughout give it structure, but also make me believe there is no oil to speak of. The sauce is beautifully tangy and there is just enough cheese. I've not had pizza like this, it's a revelation. It's also handicapped accessible, with an experienced no nonsense staff, and no pretension. They close at 6, but if they were to deliver at night I suspect they would be multi-millionaires. This stuff is good. | 0
| Saki's Pizzeria | 199 Weybosset St, Providence, RI 02903 | https://sakispizza.net/ | Y | 401-334-4137 | 24/3/12 | I really like the people at Saki’s, he hires the friendliest ultra competent people who are a pleasure to deal with. Over the years (dating back to the 80s) I’ve been here many times - and in the last decade or so I’ve always gotten the Mozzarella Tomato Pesto Panini which I can recommend. What I wouldn’t necessarily recommend is the pizza, unless I knew beforehand you really like Greek New England style. It’s made in an overly greased pan, with a tiny bit of sauce, and then absolutely smothered with cheese. It’s really like biting into a big block of cheese-so if you like that, or you want an ultra calorie dense meal than great, it’s just not my preferred style. There is some street handicapped parking, and the entrance is on grade so it is accessible. | 6
| Sbarro | Providence Pl, Providence, RI 02901 | https://sbarro.com/ | Y | (401) 318-3112 | 23/2/14 | People denigrate Sbarro, but as chain pizza places go, they are far from the worst. The sauce could be more flavorful, but at least it isn’t sweetened. The crust could be crustier, and more flavorful, but it’s thick enough for structure, thin enough for folding, and somewhat chewy. The cheese is pretty standard. It’s not cheap, $5+ for one slice of cheese which seems steep to me, but if for airport/mall food it could be far worse. And, they are eminently handicapped accessible, though it sure would be nice to be able to shorten the walk to the food court at Providence Place - because for some of us walking is a chore. | 3
| Sicilia's Pizzeria | 181 Atwells Ave, Providence, RI 02903 | https://www.siciliasonline.com/ | Y | (401) 273-9222 | 23/7/21 | I think the deep dish here is better than the thinner crust…but I got a single piece of the thin just to be consistent (and we were in a rush). It wasn’t that great. You can see in the photos the cheese on top was burned, while the undercarriage wasn’t quite there yet (Crust was NE Greek style). Could hardly taste sauce, and there was too much cheese. BUT the service was great, they prioritize the sit down experience, the (new)ambiance is nice and if you have the time - getting the stuffed pizza is ALWAYS a treat (it just takes awhile to bake, so order ahead). It’s also handicapped accessible. There is a lot to love about Sicilia’s, but sadly the thin crust cheese is not one of them. | 5
| Silver Lake Pizza | 180 Pocasset Ave, Providence, RI 02909 | n/a | N | (401) 942-1111 | 23/4/4 | Yikes. I was looking forward to trying this place in a traditional Italian American neighborhood, but it was a let down. Folks working there clearly didn't care at all about customers, which can be ok if you have excellent pizza. They don't. It was burned, dry, over proofed, and with too much cheese. Sauce seemed ok, but by then it was too late. Truly awful pizza, and it wasn't like they were busy (I was by myself in the shop), so they could have redone mine if they'd bothered to notice. I threw more than half of my pizza away. There is a dining area to sit down inside and it is accessible (though you'll need some help with doors if you're in a chair which I am not sure the staff would provide). I dunno, I feel like a pizza place could do pretty well on Pocasset if this was the competition. | 7
| The District | 54 South St, Providence, RI 02903 | https://thedistrictri.com/ | (401)-421-0050 | 24/3/16 | I like the District, and am giving them a high star rating, though I’m not that impressed with the pizza. Crust is pretty pedestrian, fine but nothing special, cheese is fresh, mild, and not overly wet. But the sauce is peculiar, the tomatoes taste like they have been pre-cooked some but aren’t very flavorful, and whether it’s in the sauce or on top what is flavorful is a strong presence of almost raw biting garlic. Not so great.Handicapped access is through the door to the right, entrance is at grade. | 5

| Tomato City Pizza | 1041 Douglas Ave, Providence, RI 02904 | https://www.tomatocitypizza.com/ | Y | (401) 273-7700 | 23/4/6 | It's a very heavy pizza with a crust pretty well soaked with oil. A pretty thick crust with a tight, consistent bubble formation, a cheese mixture that floats above a thin coat of pre-simmered good but bland sauce. It's New England Greek style, and for the money ($2/slice as of 4/23) it's very filling. It's pizza, and like almost all pizza it tastes good, but it isn't gourmet. It is NOT handicapped accessible, but the interior is also nothing you really need to see...basically one dining table taken over by pizza boxes. | 3

Sauce was great, fresh, bright, flavorful, the cheese was fresh buffalo mozzarella, no complaints there. The crust though (while it tasted fine) was pretty soggy and floppy in the middle, and gummy at the edge-there was nothing really crusty about it. It is handicapped accessible, and I already have plans to go back when we have family in town - I liked the atmosphere that much - but I’ll steer clear of the pizza. | 3.5
| Trinity Brewhouse | 186 Fountain St. Providence, RI 02903 | https://www.trinitybrewhouse.com/menu | (401) 453-2337 | 24/3/18 | Their base Margherita is more complex than anywhere else we’ve visited, there is fresh tomato, sauce, cheese, basil and balsamic. The crust is a lot more interesting than I thought it would be, it’s REALLY buttery, thin and crispy. Not really equivalent to any other place I can think of. Sauce is solid, cheese is great, tomatoes are a little bland but the balsamic definitely elevates all of it. They are handicapped accessible. | 3

Sauce is precooked and flavorful, crust is relatively thick, soft with a crunchy underside, and cheese isn’t overdone. The atmosphere is like stepping back into the 70s and it’s glorious, it’s handicapped accessible, and it deserves the praise it receives. If you want generous portions of family style Italian food, in a casual, extremely friendly place, you can not beat twins. | 2

It's OK. -If it was 3:30 AM and I wanted a pizza, I'd probably order from here since they'd be the only ones open. -If I worked for Lamarr and half my billboards were sporting their ads I'd order from here out of loyalty. -They are also pretty inexpensive for eat in ($2/slice as of 4/23) so if I was really budgeting close I might sit here for a slice. But in the normal course of events, there is (much) better pizza nearby. Tightly bubbled, under proofed, slightly sweet medium thick crust without much crispness (or oil), bland sauce, and a generous amount of cheese. It's handicapped accessible, and has a parking lot, but I think their real marketing push is the late night delivery. | 4 | No walk ins, order ahead for pick up
| Veniceia's Pizza | 1910 Westminster St, Providence, RI 02909 | https://www.veniceiaspizzamenu.com/ | N | 401-341-1640 | 23/1/27 | The Restaurant itself is part of "Bahra's Mall" which is a small collection of proprietors which includes a taco place, and a cafe, among other shops-it looks pretty charming. I didn't get a chance to check to see if they had a public restroom, but the entry is at grade and handicaped accessible - though in the heart of Olneyville, parking can be a challenge if you're coming by car. It is a new business starting at the end of 2022, and the folks working there seem in that start up mode, where they are eager to please, offer good pricing, and love making good food. The Pizza itself was (naturally) delicious. The crust is thin, velvety smooth and pliable (not crusty), it's beautiful and a consistency not often found. The tomato sauce tasted fresh, simple and somewhat sweetend. The cheese was the right amount (for me), melted in some spots, fusing with sauce in some spots, and exposing sauce in places too. Super good, especially if you like sweet tomato pizza. Hoping they and the rest of Bahra's mall can succeed. | 2
