Our policy aligns with Organics Aotearoa ambition to see organic,agroecological and regenerative farming methods thrive. We are in support of clear regulations, proportionate compliance costs and aligned certification settings that turn compliance into an advantage.Our Party supports completion of the National Organic Standard rollout and recognises that a properly implemented national standard is important for producer certainty, consumer confidence and international market access.Our Party has no written policy on this issue but supports completion of the MPI-led process commenced in 2023.-Our Party is committed to the proposed timeframe for rollout and implementation. MPI will open the system for approvals on 1 July 2027 to allow organic operators enough time to update their systems, processes and comply with the new requirements for the 31 March 2028 deadline.-

Does your party intend to keep the position of Associate Minister - Organics if you get into government?CommentWe support and is committed to growing the Organics sector.Yes. Our Party supports retaining the position of Associate Minister of Organics.Our Party believes that Organics sector has genuine potential to grow. We have seen benefits from a specific focus on wool and sees value in having a Minister with strategic oversight on the Organics sector. We strongly supports primary industries and recognises their importance to regional communities and New Zealand's export economy. Any future ministerial arrangements should ensure that the organic sector continues to have appropriate representation and engagement within Government.As a minor party in any potential government, our party is unlikely to be able to exercise influence over the overall disposition of Ministerial roles.-This Government is the first New Zealand government to designate a ministerial responsibility for Organics. The delegation for Organics will continue.

Will your party commit to invest in the organic sector's growth architecture (market access, data, extension)?Comment-Yes. We are supportive of Organics Aotearoa’s four-year investment plan which could be funded by the our Party commitment to a sustainable food and fibre fund. We would provide support for regenerative and organic investments through low interest loans and grants.Our Party supports policies that grow New Zealand's primary sector, strengthen regional economies and increase export earnings. our primary industries policy recognises the sector as central to New Zealand's economy and supports policies that foster its growth and advancement. We support practical investment that assists producers to access markets, improve productivity and information, and adopt commercially viable practices. The organic sector should be able to participate in appropriate sector-wide initiatives relating to market development, data and extension services.--Our Party is committed to increasing market access for the organic sector, with the goal to double the value of all our exports within ten years. Market research conducted in 2025 estimated the value of the organics sector as nearly NZD$1.18 billion. Exports made up approximately NZD$606 million of that figure.

The New Zealand organic sector trades on premium value attributes to discerning global consumers and is key component New Zealand's broader food and fibre export profile.		-

Will your party help grow market access by securing full organic equivalency with the EU, USA, India and China?CommentOne of the purposes of the Organic Products and Production Act passed in 2023 is to “facilitate international trade in organic products”.Our Party is supportive of organic equivalency with key markets to improve exporter confidence.We will direct MFAT and MPI to prioritize and accelerate bilateral negotiations to secure organic equivalency with key trading partners like the EU, USA, China, and India. This directly aligns with our past policy to secure a Free Trade Agreement with India. However, equivalency arrangements should protect New Zealand's regulatory sovereignty and should not impose disproportionate costs or obligations on New Zealand producers.Our party has no written position on this issue but is supportive of continuation of existing MPI-led equivalence processes.Our Party is committed to growing market access globally for New Zealand organics.

As part of this, the Government is currently working on bilateral equivalence negotiations with the European Union and the United State. 		-

Will your party ensure that gene technology law protects organic certification, GE-free status, and the opportunity for domestic and export growth?CommentOur Party believes any gene technology framework should safeguard New Zealand’s primary industries and protect our international reputation.We do not support the Luxon Government’s radical de-regulation of gene technology, which risks the GMO-free producer status and good reputation for high quality natural food that New Zealand currently enjoys. We support the right of both organic and conventional farmers to remain GMO-free.Protecting New Zealand's competitive market advantage is central to our philosophy. Our core policy on GM/GE is to proceed with extreme caution and restrict research and development to secure, confined laboratory settings, opposing any field trials or environmental release. In 2025, our Party stood firm within the Coalition Government to block the widescale environmental release of GMOs under the proposed Gene Technology Bill, defending New Zealand's global reputation as a clean, green, and GE-free producer.--Our Party will only progress gene technology legislation that protects the integrity of, and capacity to grow, the New Zealand organic sector.

Will your party commit to investing in organic transition support for farmers and producers, and in domestic procurement?CommentOur Party supports mechanisms for sustainable agriculture.Yes. We are supportive of organic transition support. This is reflected in our policy to fund regenerative and sustainable food and fibre projects with low-interest loans and grants. We support expanding organic certification of more agricultural land to strengthen exports and domestic food security, with organic farm advisers to support the transition.Our Party supports a strong and diverse primary sector and recognises the economic contribution of high-value food and fibre production. However, our party does not have a stated position on dedicated Government funding for organic conversion or transition programmes, or to a specific domestic public procurement policy favouring organic products. On domestic procurement, we are fierce champions of the "Buy New Zealand Made" campaign, and we require government procurement to specify natural, sustainable fibres (such as wool) over synthetic alternatives in government buildings - a framework we will extend to prefer New Zealand-grown organic products in public institutions like schools and hospitals. Our party would consider practical and evidence-based proposals that support producer choice, productivity, export value and commercially sustainable growth in the primary sector.--Our Party is committed to continuing to implement a regulatory framework including national organic standards and a national organic mark to give clear market recognition, increase consumer certainty, and smooth international trade access for transitioning and certified businesses.

As already outlined in this response, our Trade and Foreign Affairs, Food and Agriculture policies all have portions dedicated to improving and increasing the growing organics in Aotearoa New Zealand.We see significant value add potential. A minister with specific sector oversight to lead strategic direction working alongside industry will be a good step forward. Our party's broader primary industries, regional development and export-growth policies support the growth of high-value New Zealand food and fibre sectors, including organics. Our Party recognises the importance of giving producers commercial certainty, protecting New Zealand's international reputation and supporting export opportunities. Our position on gene technology also recognises that New Zealand's GE-free market advantage should not be traded away lightly.---
