Appointees who may become career researchers at UCSC should not be appointed into Visiting titles.Non-salaried, honorary appointment for affiliated scholars and scientists of distinguished standing. Research Associate is the appropriate title for an appointee who has completed the PhD more than 5 years ago, holds a ladder rank faculty position elsewhere, and/or has a extensive and distinguished record of publications and scholarly achievements. The title Research Fellow should be used for junior-level scientists (5 or less years since PhD).
