This spreadsheet contains a log of cases removed from CPJ's datasets of "Killed", "Missing", and "Imprisoned" journalists and media workers.
2
3
CPJ strives to maintain accurate data on journalists "Killed", "Missing", and "Imprisoned" based on all information currently available.
4
Cases will be removed if new evidence shows they fall outside CPJ's mandate. This could mean:
5
The individual is not classified as a "Journalist" per CPJ's definition;
6
The incident is deemed unrelated to journalism;
7
There are security concerns about publicizing a case, such as risks to journalists or their loved ones.
8
9
As of November 2025, CPJ will publicly record when it has removed a journalist from the database for a reason outside of security concerns in this log.
10
Prior to 2025, these types of changes were issued in the relevant annual reports on killed or imprisoned journalists.
