Overview:
15
StrengthsNotes
16
Get OffWhile he appeared a bit slower later in the season, he has some very explosive reps throughout his tape.
17
Positional VersatilityHe can fit well into even fronts as a 3-tech and in odd fronts as a base end who can also play nose and shade nose situationally.
18
TacklingOne missed tackle on the entire season, which came in the bowl game, and only one missed tackle in 2022 as well.
19
20
WeaknessesNotes
21
Hand TechniqueHas no real pass rush moves aside from the occasional swipe. His typically just puts his hands straight forward and drives.
22
AnchoringNot a 2-gapping nose. He is displaced too easily in the run game when the play is directly at him, but is otherwise a good run defender.
23
Raw StrengthHe rarely collapses the pocket in one-on-one reps, especially when his initial leg churn ceases early.

GameTakeaways
27
FSU (09/23/2023)Shot out of a cannon. Good spacing in run game, shed, and lateral pursuit. A bit heavy-footed on change of direction, but relatively impressive for 300lbs. Effective cross slip from shade nose. Almost always first off the line with quick hands and initiation, but hand placement and effectiveness is lacking (likely from a lack of coaching, which is a common theme for Clemson defensive linemen in both 2023 and 2024). Great penetration on initial step in run game. Gets to backfield quickly. Worse lateral movement. Decent bull in one on one, but technique could make it excellent. Great organic speed to power that is superior to proceeding leg drive. Quicker extension on contact would help bull. Eats doubles fairly well, but more of the interior speed rusher than two-gapper. Effort doesn't diminish, but slows on extended plays if he doesn't get the initial push on the offensive line. Good lateral movement in run game. Great bull rush with extra steps before contact. Lost track of the play entirely. Exceptional linear acceleration for size. Does not anchor well for size.Shot out of a cannon, but doesn't know exactly what to do with his hands. Early third round tape that could easily become second with any sort of pass rush arsenal.
28
UNC (11/18/2023)Pushed back by inside zone. Much less explosive this game. Pushed back too easily in the run game. No pass rush moves whatsoever. Taken out of the game a lot. Lines up everywhere from nose to outside of the tackle. Decent drive, but legs stop churning too easily. May be best as a 3-4 base end. Decent arm over attempt. Rotated way too easily at the line. Significantly worse showing than the Florida State game.Day three tape at best. Fourth round grade.
29
Kentucky (12/29/2023)Quick get-off with good extension and leg drive. Getting driven back on man block. Decent ability to turn when initially rushing outside. Navigates outside zone very well. Collapsed the pocked with great leg drive. Great run defender. High effort player. Really needs to learn how to anchor. Great rub defending 3-tech.4th round grade.

Final Scouting Report
32
Tyler Davis is a plug and play run defending 3-tech with pass rush upside. He is not the strongest interior player, but he navigates well to the ball carrier, is an incredible tackler, and has a high motor. His burst off of the line on pass rush reps was decent throughout the season with some high-end reps sprinkled throughout his tape. While his testing numbers do not reflect this, the bust that he showcased on these select reps would indicate that he can become a proficient pass rusher with some additional technique. Much like all Clemson defensive linemen over the last few years, Davis has no idea what to do with his hands after the snap. While he is not a traditional run stuffer or prolific pass rusher, Davis should be a reliable depth piece who can add value on every down when necessary.
