The Myth of MultitaskingWhen students are e-learning they will be especially prone to try and multitask. This lesson will teach them that mulitasking is a myth- what people are really doing when they think they are multitasking is just switching their focus between things. This leaves them less efficent in any of them! Exception- true multitasking does happen with automatic behaviors, such as breathing, chewing gum & walking, etc.

Before video- Ask students if they think people can multitask. What are some examples of multitasking? Did you notice anything when you did those multiple tasks at once? When is a time you did not multitask and just focused on one thing? What did you notice?

Watch video (linked in next cell)

Discuss: Can we really multitask? What happens when we think we are multitasking? What happens to our productivitiy? What does this mean for you being an online learner? Are there more or less distractions at home? What is a major distraction/sources of multitasking (cell phones)? What can you do to limit multitasking and increase your productivity to be successful?
