Samaritan's Pursehttps://www.spvolunteer.org/?_gl=1*1ib4izr*_gcl_au*NjgyMTE4NDAwLjE3Mjc5NjUwODg.Samaritan’s Purse, led by the Rev. Franklin Graham, is responding in five locations to provide relief across the Southeast, including sites in Boone and Asheville. The organization is working with local churches and other organizations to provide relief, says Graham. It has about 200,000 volunteers and more than $1.5 billion in assets, according to its latest IRS filings. “Samaritan’s Purse responds to help with storms and crises around the world every day, but now the storm has hit in our own backyard,” Graham says in a Facebook message. “Hurricane Helene slammed western North Carolina and the surrounding area, as well as Georgia and Florida. Homes have been flooded and some even washed away, trees are down, tens of thousands are still without power. We would be grateful for your prayers for all those affected by this storm.” Volunteers are assisting to get mud out homes, cut downed trees, tarp roofs and remove debris to help families get through this historic crisis, says Graham. Samaritan’s Purse is working with its base church in Boone, Alliance Bible Fellowship, to help people in Watauga and surrounding counties. They area also assisting two area hospitals and set up a two-tent unit in the parking lot of Watauga County Medical Center to provide oxygen for patients who have no power at home. In Buncombe County, volunteers are working and using the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove as a base.
