I am a lifelong Democrat who began active campaign work at 14 years old for Robert Kennedy in 1968. Over the years, Ive worked on many campaigns in many capacities. From 2007-2016, I worked closely with the Hillary Clinton Campaign, took several seminars to hone my skills, and stayed active during the 2018 elections. As a House Party presenter, I have raised money, signed up volunteers, and trained new recruits to canvass effectively
I was born in Los Angeles, CA and moved with my parents to Portland, OR in 1967. I attended Woodrow Wilson High School and received a Bachelor of Music in Education from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music. I taught public school music for 10 years then wrote two self-improvement books (Pardon My Dust...I'm Remodeling, and Ready, Willing & Terrified, a Coward's Guide to Risk-Taking), spent 3 years touring the country, speaking, giving workshops and talk-show interviews. In 1992, after studying 3 years for the ministry, my wife and I pioneered the Portland Center for Spiritual Growth, a worship center in Portland, Oregon. We retired from active church ministry in 2016. I also founded and directed the DragonScales Choir, a mixed community singing group, for 5 years. We invented a cat product and manufacture and sell it out of our home; we also run an AIRBNB out of our finished basement. We have one son (married and long out on his own), 2 cats and a dog. Life is awesome!
It feels like the right next step for my political life. I want to serve my community.

I haven't worked directly with the Democratic Party besides being a member of College Democrats chapter at my school. Instead, I worked at nonprofits involved in healthcare issues that I was passionate about, including the American Cancer Society and bLifeNY, an organization dedicated to increasing the number of registered organ donors in the state of New York. I'm proud to say that in my roles for the ACA and bLifeNY I was able to organize and manage events that raised $50,000 for cancer research and signed over 500 people up as organ donors, which in theory could translate to 4,000 lives saved through transplant surgeries.
I was born in Massachusetts and raised throughout New England, with stints in North Carolina and Texas, before attending college at the University of Rochester in upstate New York, where I studied biological sciences and political philosophy. My single mother worked hard to provide for me and my two siblings, and my travels throughout the States taught me the importance of a society that treats everyone with dignity and respect. After graduating, I came to Portland. I work at Astoria-Pacific, Inc. as a production scientist. I'm responsible for manufacturing diagnostic microplates which identify newborn infants with congenital metabolic diseases - diseases which can be treated if caught early. I feel so fortunate to work at a local company that saves lives throughout the world. Our two biggest clients are in Vietnam and Peru!
I'm very excited to commit more to establishing a fair and collaborative community, and I think joining Multnomah County Democrats as a PCP is the perfect way to do just that. I decided to contribute to political causes I believed in after reading John Rawls in college, and if one buys into the old cliche that all politics is local (and I do), the best way to reach out to others for progressive causes is by establishing connections with those with whom we share this common space.

I have been an active voter since I was 18 and have worked with community groups like the Gay and Lesbian Archives and Books to Prisoners but am new to the more formal party-oriented form of politics. I’m excited to learn more and be engaged.
I work in a middle school to support kids with social and emotional needs. I am constantly thinking about the impending climate crisis and have spent the last several weeks coordinating with 350PDX to host the student climate strike and demand an Oregon Green New Deal. As a queer woman I’m also concerned with lgbt rights.
I am looking forward to being directly engaged with the party process and learning more about our democratic systems.
