I liked the talks and it helped me to really understand the EA framework
I think reading a few texts would be interesting as well
The impact of AI - something I need to look further into to understand better

Prioritizing social and intellectual aspects of community equally.
Trying to include diverse ideas and perspectives into the conversation.
EA actually consists of diverse people and ideas so look for people you resonant with. AI is dangerous.

The group of students and leaders was great, and the sessions we had were very informative about the specific things I wanted to learn. The conversations we would get into after were also very fun and interesting, and the fact that there were outdoor destinations around the house was perfect for one-on-one walks. I think the closing session will have an impact on my life.
In the same way we were open about criticizing EA and everything we did while away, it felt like we should know the specifics of the costs of this retreat to evaluate its effect.
Charitable money is better spent far away.

having outside guest speakers. nice location (though also felt kinda extravagant). would recommend doing again, sure.
I honestly think for what this was it was in many ways pretty ideal. my sense of where it falls short is offering opportunities for more in-depth learning/engagement around specific areas, but that ofc won't happen in a weekend.
talk on pandemics was really good, and made me see that as a tractable area for big impact

This was great. It worked much better than an intro fellowship in my opinion.
More people, more universities

The casual 1-1s and talks from experienced people were both great and should be done again.
I can’t think of anything, it was great
It made more invested in ea on the whole, and pushed me towards actually applying to more things and reaching out to people

I really liked the weekend retreat idea. I think it was good to step out from the day to day of school life and be in a different setting to engage with big picture ideas. Although, the venue could be somewhere in Boston!

I also really enjoyed the 1-1 paired conversations.
We could have done some pre-readings to maximise our time at the retreat.
About x-risks and how I can use my time at Graduate school to effectively support the causes!

It could be done again, it was interesting. Maybe an easier location to uber to, and also over a holiday weekend.
Better in-depth events, more guest speakers at separate times.
Changed my mind about public policy when talking to Trevor.

Excellent special guests.
My experience was mostly sleep and personal life limited so not much :). I think 3 nights is a lot though. Next time 2 nights would be easier for a lot of people I think (myself included)
Do AI stuff! Apply to a bunch of jobs!

- starving together and baking together on Friday night
- lightning talks (though should have added space for 2 Q&A after each talk)
- jumping into the ocean day 1
- split up core people away during group social events (like dinner), to minimize ingroupyness
- let people choose one of their 1:1s
- models of how university students in EA think about the world?
