Students in marching band begin these lessons during summer vacation. It takes students 4 months to develop a strong and successful marching band show. Though the same concepts are taught and enforced through the entire marching season, the ultimate goal is perfection from every student. Students strive to make each day better than the last. Marching Band Fundamentals and Execution- 9-12.RT.1 - 9-12.RT.2 - 9-12.RT.3 - 9-12.RT.4 - H.1.2 - H.2.1 - H.2.7 - H.5.1 - H.6.5 - H.7.1 - H.7.2 - H.7.5 -H.8.1 - H.8.6 Marching Band Fundamentals In this section, students learn a wide variety of techniques to better themselves musically as well as physically. The goal of the student is to work together with the entire ensemble to create a cohesive and entertaining performance. Students learn about proper posture and marching technique as it applies to improving their playing abilities. Students will physically prepare themselves to develop stamina and endurance in order to successfully perform a physically and artisically demanding marching band show. In addition, students will learn to develop their musicianship by demonstrating appropriate dynamics, articulations, appropriate musical style, emotional involvement, and appropriate blend with the ensemble. - Indoor and outdoor rehearsals during class and after school. - In class playing/memorization tests - Competition venues - Concerts - Half time show performances -Outside drill writer -outside colorguard instructor -music purchased from the local sheet music company and adjusted by the band director -youtube videos demonstrating excellence through observing excellent programs outside of our own -rehearsal techniques and exercises including scales, tuning exercises, chorals, and lip slurs to develop a well rounded musician -competitions for important outside perspective and critiqueIn general, this class teaches students valuable skills that will aid them in successfully completing the ILEARN. Students learn time management, critical thinking, and how to analyze. Students in band have to think quickly in order to play every aspect of music correctly in a performance. This encourages positive test taking skills.
