Gather every item you can

Get your hunter rank up where you can - this is done via pokedex completion so shouldn’t be too hard - you need rank 5 for the story anyway

Do side missions - this will help you get items etc - some mission will unlock rewards in the village or give you good items

Max out pokedex entries - this also provides money from catching the pokemon

Shaking material locations can/will also contain a pokemon so hit those when you see them

Sparkling locations provide special items so hit them as they can contain the evolution items

Each section ends with you fighting a Noble Pokemon - once you hand in that quest the next one will unlock a new area.

A lot of the pokemon you can catch evolutions of however evolving a pokemon counts for research

Darkrai and Shaymin are available in this game however you need save files of other games to be able to get them - they are both postgame

You will need to find and hand in a lot of lost satchels to get MP so you can buy some of the evolution items in section 1
