How might we empower women to lead more balanced and healthy lifestyles. Wearable technology has the ability to make us healthier, happier, more mindful and more productive (without always staring at a screen). Our smart jewelry keeps you notified of what's important by filtering your phone's notifications, so you can enjoy the moments that matter most to you without the anxiety of needing to check your phone. We also offer activity tracking and are about to launch breathing exercises and guided meditation. We teach you how to have a healthier relationship with technology. Our new campaign is encouraging women to 'Look Up'.

How can we use AI to help people work and live better?Data and analytics tools lack the human context.

CIF is the first universal AI tool for unstructured data that enables *anyone* to find narrative insights from unstructured, textual data with the speed & ease of a Google Search.
CIF empowers people & organizations to process unstructured data at scale and -in the process- enables them to embrace and encourage unstructured data. CIF enables anyone to combine quantitative and qualitative data to acquire a more complete picture and understanding into everything they do.

How can we use technology to increase our attention on our actual personal priorities. 1) the goal is not to increase time spent on the site, but to increase integrity between planning and doing 2) The goal is to create a greater sense of sensitivity of the relationship between an abstract idea and it's place in Time (planning vs doing) 3) the goal is to use elements of persuasion to reinforce behaviors that are in alignment with a person's betterment (i.e. schoolwork, learning a language or even spending time with friends) 4) To increase a user's ownership of their time, a sense of self-responsibility. Most media sites remove both the feeling and the reality of responsibility/agency from online and the real world.~10k (just begun)

This is the KEY question in development. 1) users' engagement with challenges. 2) users' ratings of each other as buddies (like airbnb) 3) concrete completed achieved goals (i.e. studied for exam, completed novel, spent 8 hours with friend this week)

I just listened to the interview on Sam Harris' podcast, I'd very much like to be in touch with Tristan. It was extraordinary luck to hear it right now, because I've been working for many months on the possibilities of this project. Not being a programmer I've focused on finding the right target market and just opened up the site as a blog in order to build traffic. The functionality of the site (as a matching community for accountability partners, and a service to help people manage their attention and commitments in a fun way is at a very early stage).

Instead of constantly feeding news to users that do not enhance their lives, we will submit questions about how they will help build the future. We actually care about the users' success in life. I am very passionate about the collective human intelligence we have on this planet and I believe it is being stifled with all the distractions we have. We have lost our imaginations and creativity we once had back in the 1950s and 1960s. We need to get back to that brave pioneering spirit if we want to see a better future. We need to start having more minds coming forward online and sharing big new ideas to solve problems. We have to start asking bigger, better, and definitely the right questions in order to solve big problems. Questions also get people to think differently and hopefully act on new solutions. I think my social networking site can achieve this. I am in need of assistance in getting it off the ground. Thank you for reviewing this, and I hope to hear from you soon!

1) by combatting the many problems of smartphone technology - texting and driving, brain hacking, poor quality content, distracting advertising, shallow relationships and unhappiness ... while 2) providing a compelling alternative to other applications and driving people to quality experiences that contribute to happiness - face-to-face time, volunteering, exercise, real relationships, etc.

There are: too many “apps”, too many passwords, and too much to do. Applications that decrease complexity are the key to both usefulness, and personal productivity That is why we are developing Sparksfly™.

Sparksfly simplifies the online experience for individuals, and increases productivity for the enterprise. It helps people organize friends, family, work associates, former classmates, colleagues, teams, classmates, and many more into the routines that are the best fit for each of us. individuals are able to connect multiple social profiles to their account. They then can manage all of their routines with one unified profile

For consumers:Sparksfly enables consumers to simplify their social experiences.
For brands:Sparksfly provides brands with an opportunity for meaningful, targeted, consumer engagement based on data generated by Sparksfly users. When using Sparksfly, consumers will self-select (qualify) favorite brands into routines.
The Sparksfly platform and the Sparksfly AI engine are proprietary technologies that have taken over two (3) years to architect and build. They include the software platform, the highly developed UI, the API integrations with major social networks, an “authentication fabric” which allows integration with virtually any additional networks that deploy API strategies, and the Sparksfly Inference Engine based on fuzzy logic algorithms. They also include administrative tools. Collectively, they are not easily replicated. They require not only specialized understanding of sophisticated integration's, but also, specialized understanding of business and social architectures.

Sparksfly is the right product at the right time for today’s technology market. By simplifying user experience in an increasingly complex online world, Sparksfly fulfills a pressing market need for both the consumer and brand engagement.

How can we encourage people to take time to improve their wellbeing? How can we encourage them to connect with experts who can help them reach their goals and live better lives? Our purpose is to enable people to improve their wellbeing in a very simple, convenient, and approachable way. In the world where we live in today, stress has become the norm. Whether we are students, employees, executives, entrepreneurs, parents, men, women, single, or married, we all have our daily preoccupations, we are all working long hours, we all have our personal and professional challenges, and we are all overwhelmed with the astonishing amount of information we are exposed to during the day through our phones and laptops, on social media, and on TV. All of these things makes it sometimes hard for us to stay calm, concentrated, and productive, while our energy is wasted on things that prevent us from focusing on ourselves, developing ourselves, and growing. Viivas Team's mission is to offer very simple and personalized ways to improve well-being and remind people how important it is to take care of their emotional well-being the same way they take care of their physical well-being.That's why we are bringing together in one place, all kinds of activities, experts, products, and stories that can help to improve wellbeing. We are dedicated to leverage new technologies in order to reduce stress and make wellbeing approachable to anyone. We propose a large variety of activities (online and offline) for all types of needs, styles, tastes, and prices. Whether people prefer to solve issues on their own by reading, enjoy meeting other people to share their experience, or even receive practical tools from experts, Viivas offers them very flexible options so that they can find what suits them the most. We also provide tools and inform our users about offline workshops to improve their wellbeing, learn about mindfulness and personal development. 20

We are an online/offline platform that aims to connect with like-minded people via our app and to get them to do things together in reality at interest-based events in a safe and fun manner. The aim is to help spark conversations and build real connections over shared interested.

There's just too many of virtual connections and virtual sharing going on that is leading to varied forms of isolation, societal disconnects and even stress-related illnesses. We believe friends, conversations and real experiences are what keep us going and are core to the human experience, at least as we know it and as seen important to our individual and combined happiness and growth, and that's what we are after in an age where technology is really hurting those prospects.
The idea is to blend the online with the offline.

We essentially screen profiles of people on the app and host interest-based events for them to meet new people and do things together with.
Our design decisions are always based on the answer to the question - will it lead towards building a real connection - either in form of connecting two people via the messenger who are then prompted ideas for real/offline activities that they could together indulge or in the form of suggesting interest-based events that they can attend to meet new people and converse with.

We've introduced a Anti-swipe detainer to demotivate people to judge people on basis of the first photo they see and pass on the profile. If a user takes less than 3 seconds to take a decision on a profile repeatedly, then they are put on a hibernate mode and cannot see anymore profiles for a fix period of time.

For all people who attend our events, they can get on the app and join the event they attended (free or ticketed) and can therefore connect with other people who were at that same event with them. This helps when sometimes people may not get to speak to everyone and even to start a conversation if you forgot to ask for their number. However, mutual interest is required for the conversation to flow.

We're also working on lots more things to bridge the online/offline gap and keep things real by introducing more result-oriented online interactions that lead to real offline meetings and activities.

Can we build tools to help people make better decisions? By better, we mean decisions that are fundamentally in their interest, versus the interest of a third party like an advertiser. Our data works 24 hours a day, but it seems to rarely work for us. We want to build a service that puts people's data to work for them. The benefits of our product is that our users, who we call our patrons, will get (1) data to help make decisions that are important to them; and (2) the opportunity to help other people in a meaningful way. Voting on people's questions is like holding the door open for a stranger. We hope to create a real human moment for people, but still you don't want to spend all day holding the door open for people. We view the time people spend on our service as a cost, not a benefit. We want to maximize the aforementioned benefits while minimizing the costs.

How can we remember the moments our brain fails to record?minutiae developed out of the first museum led incubator, NEW INC, based out of the New Museum in New York (so much new-ness). minutiae has no venture capital, it is funded by an arts grant and the good will of a design firm (UsTwo) that partnered with us on the project. minutiae is not interested in maximizing downloads or user engagement. minutiae is a time-delimited app. It lasts 1440 days and then you are done. minutiae is an attempt to reframe and remember the mundane moments that form the bulk of our lives.

Paid Download
We are aware that minutiae is not for everyone - that's not the goal. Simply the fact that it costs $15 to download (we called Apple to try and have them let us charge $14.40...no dice) means that we are eliminating huge numbers of potential downloads. But that's okay. Our aim is that the people that actually download it truly want it. And that they form the basis of a small but dedicated community that is invested in the project (even if that investment, after the initial purchase, is only a few seconds each day).

In an online world saturated with instant and ephemeral gratifications, how can we help people rediscover the pleasure of anticipation?
In an online world saturated with instant and ephemeral gratifications, our mission is to become the primary communication platform to create or to experience the pleasure of anticipation.

Jack is a messaging app that combines anticipation, patience and rewards.

Jack allows you to send text, photo and/or video messages and decide when these can be read. While a message is delivered instantly, the recipient must wait before the message can be read: it can be any hours, days, weeks, months or even more.

We call this “Time Will Tell”.

We use images plotted on a map to show people what kind of vibe thy might expect. By staying far away from comments, rating or discussions we hope to inspire people to go and have a look for themselves. By using real time data, we encourage people to put their phone down as quickly as possible, and go pioneer by themselves. Also by skipping advertisement and just allowing users to 'follow' the brands they choose themselves, users will only receive messages they actually care for.
We hope to launch a first version of our app in 2 months.

How can we create more spontaneous encounters and conversations between strangers in public spaces?First of all, our service is both analog and digital. We have built a sharing platform, using social objects as conversation starters to help people connect around playful or active experiences in public spaces. Our platform is filled with tech and linked to an app with a social algorithm, facilitating real-life encounters by lowering the "shyness barrier". The analog dimension of our service is crucial for us as we want to create more meeting opportunities for people in public spaces.
The social objects we select need to comply to what we called "Made for Sharing". In short, 1 / they need to be robust to be shared among many people, 2/ they need to be social, which is to say that they have to function as "conversation starters", 3 / they need to be of very high design quality to guarantee the best user experience.
Though we are a company, we want to create a real social impact in cities. We share a common vision with local governments, planning agencies,... who try to "reclaim the streets" to create more life between buildings and pay more attention to the human scale.
We are currently trying to design an evaluation protocol whose goal will be to assess the social impact a solution like OurHub can have on our cities and public spaces.
We are launching our service (beta test) in march, but we have sold our solution to three different types of actors in Copenhagen.

Our mission is to help people get more out of their free time. We think too many people either fail to plan, or fall for cheap distractions, in their free time so we try to tip our users to action through personalized, actionable, inspiring content. We think busy professionals, if they live more fulfilling personal lives, will be better at work but more importantly better members of society. Only when one feels balanced and in control of their lives (on all fronts) can they have ambition to pursue that next goal or help others pursue theirs.Coming from Zynga we know exactly what it means to design for empty calorie engagement...from day 1 we decided to not use those engagement tactics and build for real value. Our mission is to help people get more out of their free time and this primarily means providing helpful information that is actionable. From the way we work to the KPIs we pursue, everything has the goal of encouraging more primarily offline actions.

We think of it in terms of experiences triggered. So our product is about suggestion amazing things people can do in their free time, whether it be pursue a health goal, try a new restaurant, learn how to mediate, or even just go and check out a new neighborhood or hike. Our tips are personalized and ALWAYS actionable so we can directly measure how many offline experiences we trigger.

How might we make billions of people happier and healthier?Inspire personal development and behavior change in the real word. YOU-app is all about small actions, 'micro-actions', for a happier, healthier life. Actions like "Find beauty around you", "Do a micro-workout", "Add greens to a meal", "Smile at a stranger”. We condense the world’s top knowledge on health and happiness into concrete, easy-to-complete micro-actions. Get a micro-action or create your own, complete it, snap a picture and share with the community!

One of our core values is: "If you love them, let them go"
- We only have a limited number of micro-actions people can do per day
- YOU-app micro-actions send people out from the mobile world – reaching out to a friend, going for a walk, experiencing the world. Not ”reading the next action”
- We want to encourage our users to do meaningful action: It’s not just a tick mark and you’re done – greater impact comes from taking a picture and writing a little reflection

In a world where media is shaped by the negative, how might we be a hub for positive stories of every day people that inspire and connect with people on a personal level to create positive change in the world? One aspect is, while we need advertising to survive, we consider advertising a part of our overall mission. We seek advertising partners whose missions are aligned generally with our overall mission, and we cater specific page advertising to the subjects in particular stories. We try to avoid the unrelated and random "University of Phoenix" advertising next to a story about adopting AIDS babies in South Africa (We are still trying to figure out a mobile ad alternative to Facebook's Audience Network though which is a challenge...). We also state clearly to our audience that the purpose is to come to our site, be inspired, and then go off into the world to take action. We want to inspire people and motivate them to DO something and get off their devices, but come back for more when they need another boost.5K

AdvertisingWe have thought about this a little, and probably it would be in hours of video watched. A long term goal might be to track follow up stories of what people did as a result of visiting our site...how the site motivated them to action, or changed their life in some way. But we are still getting the basic content going, so we aren't there yet!

When we are caught in the vortex of technology, how might we come back to our senses? You might call this a kind of "Analog App," designed to get us out of our minds, take a break from our computers and devices, and come back to our senses. It is one way to help us hang on to our humanity.

What is Tech-Relief?
We love technology. It’s awe-inspiring. The digital world has become our parallel universe, and we are spending more and more time there working, creating, playing, and communicating. However, the virtual world exists only as pixels on a screen, and we tend to immerse ourselves so thoroughly and for so long that we frequently (and literally) disconnect from our real world senses in the process. We start to feel stressed and unbalanced. Tech-relief is a simple antidote. It is about coming to our senses. It brings us out of the virtual world, back into our bodies, and into the present moment. It does this by stimulating the five senses. The Tech-Relief box contains a variety of things to play with, to touch, smell, taste, and hear. All of it analog. Keep it by your computer to take breaks during long work sessions, or to unplug anytime.
(If you are interested in a PDF that shows you more about Tech-Relief just email me at blmarco@icloud.com or info@barbaralewismarco.com)

Tech-relief was designed and developed by two artist/educators who believe that helping our fellow humans in whatever way seems right for each person is important, and who believe that our shared humanity needs to be balanced with our technology.

I have spent many years running an art program for children with cancer and children with neurological disabilities as part of a humanism in medicine program at Columbia Medical School. I worked in hospice bedside for eight years as well. (Illness and death are humanity's great equalizers, but surely we can express our shared humanity in other than dire circumstances!) My own illustrated books for adults are about coping with difficulties in life with a sense of humor. (Perhaps the most important sense!) Contributing toward helping to keep the humanity in all aspects our lives in whatever small way I can is part of what makes my own life meaningful. The Tech-Relief project is a way to keep us in touch with ourselves during the workday (or night) where most of us are sucked non-stop into the vortex of online reality. It just tries to give us a break and bring us back into what makes us human. We have been looking into ways to realize this project, but the capital needed to manufacture and do it ourselves is beyond our reach, but probably pretty small by venture standards. Then there is distribution. We have thought that publishers might be interested, but when I heard about TWS I thought it would be more meaningful if it were part of an overall movement of change and awareness. I wish we had the means to manufacture it and even give it away. Now that's my crazy artist idealist talking. She is still there after all these years, but I've been around long enough to know when to bring her back to earth when needed. Please let me know if you'd like to know more or if you have any feedback at all. Thanks so much. Barbara

What would the world look like if we had a social network and built an online community that supports being focused on the people, places and activities right in front of us (a mindfulness "Fitbit")? LilSpace provides a technology tool that allows us to "auto reply" and communicate while we are not communicating which gives relief of the anxious impulse to keep checking our phones. Time Well Spent is bringing awareness around the need for communication interruptions to be more conscious. TWS is focused on building higher quality relationships. LilSpace aims to enhance communication by leading the shift away from the expectation of immediate replies to texts and calls. The expectation to immediately reply disrupts our personal and business lives.
What sets the LilSpace app apart from other auto-reply apps is that 1) it is very simple to use, 2) it responds to both texts AND calls, and 3) we will build a community of Users to support the shift away from expecting immediate replies.

We will also measure success in the number of strategic partners we engage (health/wellness businesses & service providers + mindful corporations/schools).

How does the sense of reality we are conditioned to limit our ability to perceive and respond to negative feedback our actions receive in our attempts to survive and be happy? Because everyone thinks they are right, by discussing unconscious factors that align us more with how we already see, as opposed to with the evolving journey toward collective solutions, the tool will give us the opportunity to see how our good intentions and efforts may be exhausted if we have not fully accounted for how we may be trying to fix the world with the same weapons that broke it.

TWS is a philosophy that is very respectful of users and their needs. To reiterate, the connection that I see between it and Veils of Reality is that VoR is attempting to find ways to bring us into alignment with ourselves, to make visible the ways in which we obstruct the change we want, unconsciously.

Success for Veils of Reality would be a cultural reset, an era of personal transparency where en masse we are able to see the ubiquity of naturally evolving but ultimately limiting ways of understanding the world, and their role in our cycles of tragedy.

I read the Binge Breaker article in The Atlantic several hours ago and wanted to write to you, as I really appreciate what you've done and what you're trying to do. I'm an outsider, an existential exile, also 32, went to Berkeley, I don't have Facebook or use a smartphone but I think to an extent it's a generational thing, having the perspective to notice that something has happened.

Its hard to introduce myself because there are many layers of experiences and education that have led to me standing sort of perpendicular to our society which are rather unique. That is, it may take slightly longer for my intended meaning to become visible because its resting on a lot of context that I can't assume is shared.
So I hope you'll bear with me because I'm working on something that, even if it's lacking in polish, is high on concept, dead-on in terms of the pertinence of its direction, and lastly, I suspect, right up your alley.
I'm writing because I've been in the woods long enough to find things, to make a case for a reality, an alternate story of human nature, human possibility, that is in a window in time that I think, in part, social media platforms and smartphone culture is closing. I'm in India now, 5 years after the first time, and like the contrast between my first Burning man and my last there is something in the experience of everyday moments and interactions that perhaps someone only a few years younger than us wouldn't notice is gone.

As someone who didn't come to the culture of mindfulness from the business angle of becoming a stronger employee, but also as a social entrepreneur this worries me because there are things that I know take time to reach us--we take time to reach ourselves--and because younger people now fill every intervening moment with compulsive swiping I don't think they have the same opportunity to ever get below the surface of layer of their thoughts, and larger ideas--any that attempts to build a bridge between the status-quo and possibilities outside it--don't develop, are psychologically swiped past perhaps out of the reflex of immediate gratification.
The average now is that people stop reading articles after 500 words? I imagine you have heard of Vipassana? The confrontation it establishes with the momentum of our society, expressed in our inability to be still, provides an opportunity to see just how unlikely it is that any sort of unpleasant medicine will reach us. From the Vipassana perspective, we have deeply laid psychological grooves that constitute the path of least resistance, to grasp pleasure and flee pain at every moment. If the problems we can't seem to overcome, as a society, as a species, aren't merely limitations of technology, aren't simply bad people, human nature, but are shown to have roots leading painfully back to each of us, we will be gone before we ever knew what it was that came knocking.

And that is precisely my analysis, though its not a problem of who we are but rather: how we see. This project is an attempt to create a mutation in the cultural genome, so to speak, to allow us to be more versatile in responding to the feedback Reality is giving us by pulling things that tend to be mistaken as human nature into our spectrum of cause and effect and giving us a choice.
I'm writing to you because I may not be able to continue much longer. I have a nerve problem that makes it almost impossible for me to be comfortable, or even sleep. Beyond how the experiment I've made of my life has left me with no skills and no work experience, I'm physically incapable of enduring work that is either sitting-based or standing-based, because of the pain. More than that I couldn't accept personal progress that is detached from the fate of the earth and society in the way most jobs are. I understand we are more or less forced to sell out to survive, but in surrendering to that I would have been unable to see, and I hope you'll get the reference here, that: "this is water". And though I had amazing experiences and have known so many intelligent, interesting, fun, thoughtful, ethical people, I don't think our culture is, yet, self-reflective to a deep enough extent for any of those things to cure us of a toxic profit and ego-oriented way of life.

I'm onto something but I don't have the money, resources, network, talent or energy to last much longer. I wanted someone else with vision to have a chance to see what it is I'm looking at, even for a moment. I was never sure whether the Veils of Reality would be the thing that clicks, there is so much, namely my convoluted writing, working against it, but I am sure that if enough people with vision and values like you have, can see what it is pointing at, that it could lead to whatever technology of perspective does eventually help engender a culture that has tools to stay awake, to adapt, to enjoy where we are and what we have, to come home.
If you have the time I hope you will consider exploring www.veilsofreality.com There are many sections, all of which approach the theme in different ways. Or if you know anyone who might be interested, including researchers, graphic designers, editors, please feel free to spread the word. Thank you

It is a carpe diem APP that has only 1 single objective: to show a beautiful and different flower on your lock-screen every single day!

How might we help young millennials make more conscious choices with their everyday decisions with money and reach their short/mid-term saving goals?Pluto isn't about checking how much balance you have left in your bank accounts or your recent transactions. Rather, we focus on actionability through gamification and step-by-step guidance by leveraging contextual data and your personal finances to help you make smarter decisions with everyday spending and see tangible results of those decisions by reaching the goals that matter to you. The app is where you go to set your goals, select challenges and see your progress, but what matters is the decisions you make outside the app; and Pluto is there in the background, to help you every step of the way.

How might we restore real time, in person social interactions while building a single authenticated "online identity" to bare the burden of connecting with all things internet?Everyone exchanges contact information, we exchange phone numbers, email address, and social media usernames. Why can't we just exchange our name? Sync - Contact Exchange is an early prototype that consolidates all of our online contact information (name, number, email, website, and various social media accounts) onto a single exchangeable Profile Card.

To "sync" with someone, a pair of users simultaneously press a single button and their Profile Cards are exchanged over Bluetooth and added into their "Digital Card Case" as well as added into their phone as a new iPhone contact.

This is not a "digital business card." This act of "syncing" with someone to add them to your online sphere, ideally, will become a new type of social etiquette accepted by society for meeting someone you would like to stay in contact with.

FreemiumNet time saved figuring out the logistics of our day. Time saved searching for contact information (restaurants, doctors, retail stores, friends' s home addresses) and time saved responding to unnecessarily complicated online formalities (filling out forms, creating new online accounts, exchanging contact information, make plans with someone).
Design Guidelines for "Time Well Spent", Workshops & Conference on "Time Well Spent"
Sync - Contact Exchange is just the first version. I have plans to build a sustainable business around the key feature of exchanging and organizing contact information.

A major goal of mine is to simplify and consolidate the simple yet monotonous activities we encounter everyday into one platform. For example, making an appointment for a haircut, reservations for dinner, filling out paperwork in the waiting room of a doctor's office, securely filling out shipping and credit information while buying something online, or just acknowledging that you read and understood a text or email.

It is time we start using technology intelligently and have it work for us to do things we shouldn't have to think twice about.

What will be required to empower human intelligence and life fulfillment in the age of algorithms?Saent is a mindful productivity platform (software+hardware devices). It acts as a virtual coach that helps people find balance, do great work, and live more fulfilling lives by blocking distractions, focusing better, single-tasking, improving goal setting and motivation, and developing healthier work habits. Our overarching goal -- what drives us -- is to help people live more fulfilling lives. We believe that our current tools are broken, often designed to extract more of our time and attention than is healthy and working against our brains rather than with them. The result is overwork, stress, burnout, unhappiness, poor health, and low quality results. We want to help people to do better work while at the same time being happier, healthier, and more fulfilled. We also believe that the future of work lies mainly in creative pursuits -- the kinds of things that humans are uniquely suited to and won't easily be mechanized or defined in a tidy algorithm. We want to prepare people for this "post-work" society. Saent (the company) is a fully remote team, with people spread across three continents. We empower everyone to work autonomously and we have a high degree of trust in one another. We're self-organized according to some of the principles of "Teal" organizations (laid out by Frederic Laloux) -- at least, that's something we strive for. It is a continual learning and improvement process.

We're still figuring this out, and it might become more clear as the platform is filled out and we're further along in expressing our vision of helping people take a holistic view of their work/life balance, and empowering them to be happier, more creative, and more fulfilled by work and life. Though it is necessary to track some vanity metrics (like DAU and downloads), it's not how we'd define success. In the short term, we feel successful when Saent users tell us that the app and device are helping help to be more productive, break unhealthy habits, and reclaim their work/life balance.

As a photo-based app, we've made tough choices early on, requiring more intention from the user. If Instagram is about the broadcast, we are about play and intimate communication. For example, we don't allow access to the iPhone library, requiring the user to find photo-pairings from their real-life environment (vs internet). We don't have like buttons; if you like a friend's photo-response, tell them why.

fair metadata; for now, this is as much an (expensive!) art project as anything.
We aren't sure how to measure it, but we are focused on a user's time spent off the app noticing their environments with a different "lens," using OuiSi as a prompt. With respect to connection, we are more interested in quality, explorative relationships with a few real people than collecting "500+" units in one's flat network. In future versions of the app, where we hope to provide space for safe play between complete strangers, we hope that we can build empathy between people from different communities that would otherwise not cross paths. In other words, OuiSi as a tool for empathy through play, seeing what the other sees.

How can we save people's time in order to find events and activities related to the personal development?
We give them an opportunity to stop using Facebook as a promotional and search (asking friends and communities) tool. And we provide them a free (for small organisers or extremely cheap for the big ones) visibility in the search directory that helps to establish an immediate connect between interested parties.
Brining this level of efficiency we aim to move people away from their gadgets and spend more time with activities like yoga, music, sports, arts, nature & adventure.
We introduce a detailed search for events, private teachers and creatives, venues owners and organisers. Our UI is done the way to make this search to happen within few minites. We put ourselves in the shoes of our consumers and provide them the tools to specify exact request. For example: I want to find a yoga class, I have time on wednesday evening or weekend except sunday evening, I want it to be in english in that specific area of Brussels and I'm an adult. You will get results in 15 seconds and the choice is not that big which takes another few minutes to make a decision. We also introduce rating and comments to provide a collaborative information.
Just launched on 25.04. But already starting to get visitors and users.

How can we de-program college graduates entering the workplace from the false belief that technical and hard skills is all they need to succeed in the workplace? We educate college grads and/or newbies entering the workforce of the vital necessity of possessing soft skills that supplement their hard or technical skill execution. Today's students, and many others for that matter, have been so addicted to smartphones and social media, they simply cannot express themselves socially. This creates a disconnect not only in the interview process, but in their profession/workplace. It is extremely detrimental as one pursues entrance into the working world. Our patented algorithmic assessment can instantly measure ones' strengths and weakness in 12 'performance drivers'. With this information we can target areas for improvement through our proprietary online 1:1 coaching program. In essence, we correct the abhorrent behavior created by smartphone and social media addiction so grads and others can have a much greater chance of succeeding in the workplace.

The age of digital relationship

Today the digital world helps us keep track of people we already know (or know of)
Meeting new people is another matter. Forums and other online communities provide a way to ‘meet new people’. People that share your hobbies, follow the same sports team, love the same obscure band, (just like you) know what the best make and model of a muscle car is. ect...
We have platforms to enjoy relationships with like minded people, but its all digital.
How many of those relationships actually end up with a handshake, a face to face conversation ?
How many times you don't even know your ‘friends’ real name?
Do not get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with digital relationships. I just think us humans are still most fulfilled with old fashion relationships. They involve all of our senses. No online meeting or video conference will replace a handshake.

More and more of our relationships become digital. Will you still be a fulfilled, happy human being when 100% of people you know are avatars?

So far technology is tearing us apart. We do not talk to each other anymore. We stare at our LED screens all the time. What’s the last time to struck up a conversation with a stranger in a coffee shop ?

It is time we use the wonderful technology we have to bring us back together.
The obstacles we face to turn digital relationships into human relationships are location, effort and lifestyle. Three thousand miles is not a boundary for an online relationship, but not many people have the means to cross that distance to meet a friend?
There are websites to arrange meetings of people with the same interests, too bad you have to work late that day.

What if we can find a way to make the technology work for us, make our digital gadgets help us find human relationships ?

I’m a big Depeche Mode fan. Not many people get their music. Not many people get the message. I am a brother to everyone in the black swarm. I could be walking by my brothers and sisters everyday not knowing it. Unless they are wearing DM t-shirt i will never exchange a word with them.

what if we could digitalize that t-shirt, that bumper sticker ?

sharing the fact of 'Dysconnected'.. I simply want to get the word out as far and wide as possible.
Dysconnected' has the subtitle 'Isolated By Our Mobile Devices'. It has been well received in Canada. Images from the book have been printed in 'adbusters', and the it has been featured on radio and in press in Canada. I'm looking for a way of spreading the word in the US. I think you'll immediately see the potential for synergy between TWS and 'Dysconnected'. Please let me know if you'd like me to send a complimentary copy of the book (and, if so, please send mailing address). It is PURPOSELY only available in hardcopy up to this point (I wanted people to go off and sit in a quiet place for a while). But ebook will follow (makes more sense, getting to the source of the challenge).

How can we help people live deliberately?Design Decisions: The app was designed to spend as little time as possible in the app (e.g., open app, mark an action complete, close app). Additionally, Routinist allows actionable notifications that allow you to complete your entire routine through notifications without ever having to open the app. We use no push notifications. The only notifications that occur while not using the app are an evening routine reminder and a morning routine reminder. These will not occur if the user does not use the app for a week. All notifications can be turned on/off in the app.

I agree with the Time Well Spent mentality that the Attention Economy is bad for us. I currently measure success by a sum of the minutes worth of actions users log as completed. Ideally, I'd like to differentiate between minutes completed on actions we've previously conquered (showering, brushing teeth, etc.) and minutes completed on new positive habits and goals (exercising, flossing, etc). In the ideal scenario, the measure of success would be the minutes on new habits/goals.
Design Guidelines for "Time Well Spent", Workshops & Conference on "Time Well Spent", Online Course
I'm working on seed funding for Routinist, and as part of my pitch deck, I assert that the reason the average American spends 10.5+ hours per day consuming media is mainly because we have a basic human instinct to resist change and default to the easy path (scrolling a FB feed, watching TV, etc.).

All of us have felt resistance to change. It's when you can't reach the alarm clock before the voices in your head start telling you it's too early to get out of bed. It's when you set out to do something new and those voices tell you to do anything but what you planned.

I'm trying to understand the underlying reason(s) for this resistance to change. I believe an evolutionary explanation could be that this resistance benefited us in the past because it resulted in us taking less chances (a form of survival through risk aversion). But that's just my current thinking.

In your research, have you come across anything that explains (by evolution or otherwise) why this resistance to change exists? I'd be extremely grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

How can we generate meaningful dialogue that reveals undiscovered talents, leads to positive actions, new ideas, a more engaged citizenry, and "a more perfect union."Earth Encounters is an anti-trivia, anti-silo board game that uses smartphones and tablets as tools for reference, not a substitute for thought. Seventeen of the top tech start-ups of all time began with friends engaging in face to face dialogue. We extend the conversation beyond the limited shelf life on TV and even most web based news media and promote increased public awareness of important issues and the search for practical solutions via thought experiments, role play, and traditional Q&A. We do not shy away from sensitive issues, but approach them in a way that builds trust. We believe its by challenging our history, we insure our future. Select PRESS tab on our website for more info.
We've sold 1500 games.

I am 71. I was raised in segregated Birmingham, the third oldest of 10 kids. My son, Taylor, launched Earth encounters as part of his MBA program at LMU. Feedback from more than 200 students and staff from LMU, Pepperdine University, and high school kids in South Los Angeles, and many others who have played our game have proven that we have produced a product that's entertaining and brings value to those who play.
Evaluate our game and support our efforts to change the conversation.

How can people think more deeply in distracting environments?Super-sleeping headphones (earwigs):

I actually want earwigs for two different applications: Reading in noisy environments, and sound-based treatment (and accurate diagnosis) of tinnitus.

The most important new software feature of the earwigs is a modal safety switch that will (normally) be controlled automatically by motion detectors in the earwigs.
The masking mode for tinnitus will attempt to provide a suitable masking sound to make the tinnitus less intrusive, perhaps by matching the sound in the other ear or by using various other sounds. I've actually done a lot of experiments with various sounds while sleeping, and have had pretty good success with certain water sounds such as slow ocean waves.

I see everything from the perspective of ekronomics, a new form of time-based economics. As regards your apparent focus on attention, I wonder if you left the google when their motto became "All your attention are belong to us"? The elevator version of ekronomics involves dividing time into three categories. The essential time is for such stuff as food, clothing, and shelter, and for advanced societies it's on the order of a few hours per week (averaged over the workforce), whereas hunter/gatherers spend all their time on essential work trying to stay alive. The other two categories of time are investment and recreation, where the balance determines the future competitiveness of the society in question. Details available upon polite request, as the joke goes, eh?

Tristan - Great job on everything. Why are you the first person to mention THE ATTENTION ECONOMY on a mainstream show like Bill Maher where he had to ask you to explain it? The term was coined in 2001. I wrote about it in my first book in 2009. It’s so important. Why is the political world so clueless on the Information Society? There is such a huge cultural gap. You should learn about the ABT -- it's at the core of ALL communication. It should be part of your consciousness. I’m writing a new book all about it.

The Avicena Heart "application " will largely replace the present reliance on a series of time consuming and very expensive heart related diagnostic tests that currently require expensive equipment, additional trained staff and hours to accomplish. With Avicena, a diagnostic waveform can be quickly captured with minimal equipment by a Doctor or a Patient, analyzed by the Avicena algorithm within 30 seconds, with the results communicated directly to the Doctor’s or users mobile device.

How can we bring technology into the home while blending it into the background so we can focus on the things that really matter?- We shipped over 10,000 devices of our first product Nuimo.
- In that process we learned that in the home, design comes first and technology second
- That's why we integrated a speech interface into a beatiful designer table lamp which has the side effect of the setting the right "stage" for deep conversations, focus or relaxation
- We also integrated an open source based up which allows us to worry less about an open window or automatically turn on music and lighting when I get home (which has shown many positive psychological side effects).
- We also care about showing people the process behind the glass blowing and metal working so people start creating a different and more careful relationship to products around them. Less but better.
+10000 of first product. 2nd product currently on Kickstarter.

we are taking on poverty like no non-profit has before. whereas we are young, we are planning a media campaign to fundraise in a substantial way. presently we are in the "creative side" of writing / designing our outreach. just maybe - you could offer some of your expertise / lessons for making our messaging "stick?""Multiplication Philanthropy" -- leverage is the mantra of the times in philanthropy today. The cutting edge is investment in fundraising itself -- so to "multiply" the money that can be made available for poverty programs. "Scale" is the only way to make a difference where many others have failed.
