As part of SUSU's Housing Campaign, we're taking a stand against to-let signs. Letting Agencies in Southampton spam the amount of to-let signs on our streets, which is causing a lot of problems.
- letting boards go up as early as OCTOBER, which puts pressure on students to sign for housing early
- the letting boards highlight student accommodation and increase crime in those areas
- they annoy the students who currently rent those houses, just as much as they annoy local residents
I am a student at the University of Southampton, and I would like you to support the motion being discussed at council on Wed 19th March about to-let signs. These boards are an eye-sore for our city, but also cause many specific problems for students. Agencies abuse these signs as a way to pressure students into renting houses early and their presence has been firmly linked by the Southampton police to an increase in crime. We need to stop boards going up so early, and staying up so long. I hope the students can count on your support to ensure that strong action is taken. Thank you

After working with local residents, the Southampton police and city councillors, the council are hearing a motion to address the issues of letting boards, and we need to make sure that they understand the student voice on this matter!
