Description of EventDrawing a Blank
Artist block is real, especially in right now. This workshop will give you some tools to turn your blank slate into infinite possibilities for creative ideas to flow! To get to know each other better, will be sharing a little bit about the artwork we have made in the past, feel free to have an image on hand you would like to share with the group. We will discuss possibilities and suggestions for ways to move forward with your work creating new pieces you never would have expected! During this workshop we will be working together as well as individually, providing tools and techniques to be able to generate ideas in the future.
Drawing Form and Fashion: Fashion Illustration from Past to Present with CCS faculty, Julie Muszynski.

Julie has worked in the New York fashion industry for over 25 years. Her work was recently selected by Alexander McQueen for their outdoor Covid-19 Thank You campaign running in London, Milan and New York.

This course focuses on the basic drawing experience with an intensive investigation of the figure. Students focus initially on mark making and the application of various tools and techniques in order to explore movement, gesture, shape, and the importance of the awareness of proportion.
Building basic skills in observation, visual expression, organization and representational forms, students will focus on the meaning and the power of an image, using a variety of drawing/painting/collage/digital techniques with the goal of evolving their own individual aesthetic and ability to communicate their design ideas. We will look at Fashion Design and Fashion Illustration images, historical through present.
Gesture Drawing for Animation with CCS faculty, Abby FerryFlexwax for Sculptural Moldmaking- safe for human skin, and the wax can be reused multiple times. - - You are welcome to work alongside me or watch it as a demo. After being inspired by the session and artwork of Ndubisi Okoye, come to a session by IAEA Secondary Art Educator of the Year, Deanna Sortino. She will share her lesson she designed focused on the work of Ndubisi Okoye, share student examples, and show you how she comes up with dynamic lessons plans inspired by BIPOC artists. This session is designed for high school teachers with the ojective of having students create artwork that helps define their artistic voice inspired by their own personal passions, community, and experiences.Layers of simple cheesecloth create dramatic values and textures. Cheesecloth is an intriguing fiber that can be cut, layered, folded, rolled and bunched. It's open, delicate weave gives it a lightweight, barely-there appearance. This technique creates layers of opacity-driven values and textures over a black background. In this lesson, students can cut, layer, fold, roll, and bunch cheesecloth to create layers of opacity-driven values on
black paper. As an option, add color to complete the piece. An unusual benefit of a cheesecloth composition is a semiflat, yet textured surface that makes a great alternative pastel ground. As fabric, it can also be stitched. For inspiration, view the incredible work of fiber artist Mary Pal.

Information about the Artist
Jesse is a self taught mixed-media painter who has sold 3500+ paintings over the past 12 years and shown in over 100 galleries. He runs workshops on his techniques and ideas about painting extensively in the us, canada, australia, and mexico.
“More then one hundred times this year I have found understanding through seemingly random shapes, colors, and markings. I find myself writing words before i understand their meaning, trusting I will be wise enough to understand them in time. Magic does not reveal itself easily. When trying to see the future our eyes must be given time to adjust, to find our true purpose we must ask many questions of ourselves. We must observe ourselves without judgment and allow ourselves to become ourselves. Preconceived plans lead to preconceived outcomes. To find something new we must move without bounds, there are no hard questions for truth.”

Description of EventThis session focuses on building layers, constructing space, and developing abstracted characters as a response to marks, lines, shapes, etc, made in black and white. The techniques and underlying ideas focus on staying expressed within our process. not worrying about making mistakes rather learning to adapt fix and use our mistakes to create images that would otherwise not be possible. building a flow that teaches us to observe and follow freely based on our feelings about our work. teaching us to change directions to find new and unimaginable outcomes. a process built on experimentation and exploration.

Attendees will get access to the 1st of 3 sessions in Jesse's online workshop along with a code to access the other 2 at a discounted rate.
Compositional Collage- Basic Tools and Techniques Using Adobe Illustrator to Collage:

Understanding how to organize a composition using design principles and elements is an aspect of the creative process that all artists must continue to develop. In this workshop we will use Adobe Illustrator to generate a variety of dynamic digital compositions using provided images from the Hecks Pictorial Archive. Techniques such as image capturing, distortion, layering, and manipulation will be demonstrated. Participants can expect to utilize the skills learned during the workshop to generate their own unique designs that apply the design principles and elements.
Design Thinking

Join Lawrence (Murf) Murphy Retired/Chief of the Global Design and User experience teams for GE Healthcare as he takes you through steps for design thinking.

Intuitive Approaches to Photography:

Through conversation we will talk about the array of alternate approaches, the expansion of concepts, and technical approaches of storytelling through photography/video. We are in a time where multimedia is at the finger times of the youth; technology has developed in bounds and leaps; and boundaries are being pushed for what we consider a "good" photograph - leaving us wondering how we can keep up. Jackson will spend time discussing her own experience with photography and video and post-workshop has prepared some lesson plan ideas to spark intuitive approaches in your photography class. In the end, our goal is to come to a better understanding of how to guide students (and ourselves) in creating an engaging or interesting moment in imagery.
Creating Calm: Mindfulness and the Creative Arts Practice:

Art therapy is an experiential form of wellness and personal care, focused on the belief that the process of creating is therapeutic, healing, and beneficial.  This workshop introduces guided imagery meditation and artistic response to create a creative experience rooted in mindfulness.  The emphasis is on awareness of areas of tension and sensations in the body, and the use of breath to release that tension and connect with yourself with an opportunity to create a visual response to your experience. This is a chance to relax and find some space to simply be amidst the busyness of life.
1-1:30pm: It’s Public with Cheryl Jefferson Executive Producer and Founder
To have an impact, social justice art must be seen, but if you make art of consequence and there will be consequences. How do you teach student artists to handle response both good and bad? By using their work to expand commuity, seek support, build relationships and leadership skills. Sometimes this means going big, sometimes it means spotlighting solutions to small problems as a way of solving and preventing larger ones. Ultimately, when social justice artists can’t fix everything, they should fix anything, because fixing anything shows what is possible, it opens the door that can change us all.

1:30-2:00pm: It’s a Concept with Chuck Gniech Professor, Joliet Junior College
As art teachers, we orient the beginning student with the ability to see an object and render it objectively. But as the student evolves, we need to integrate conceptual, psychological, and symbolic thinking. Getting the student to approach these critical thinking skills early benefits their success within the fine arts and graphic design. In this 30-minute presentation by Joliet Junior College Professors, attendees will learn techniques to help students think differently about they work they’re creating.

2:00-2:50pm: It’s Creative! Richard Laurent, Instructor, Columbia College-Chicago
Can you create art with human rights impact? Can you teach student artists to do the same? Yes, when the artist is literate in social justice, uses research including and beyond art to inform process, builds audience access, and speaks his or her truth as an artist and human being.
Clay and Basket Fusion
1 - 1:50 pm: Combine a fired clay pot with reeds and other materials like twine, lanyard material, wire or yarn to create a sculptural vessel that fuses two ancient traditions! What if we combine fired clay and basketmaking to make a modern vessel form? The base for the vessel will be made to accommodate the addition of reeds, and a fusion of pot and basket is possible! Start with a base that is handbuilt or thrown, and punch a few holes. Once fired, reeds are attached and a basket is woven onto the top.

Look Through My Window
2 - 2:50 pm: A dimensional self-portrait in the style of Edward Hopper. A recurring theme in Hopper’s art is windows, offering glimpses into a story within a painting. What story would be revealed to a viewer looking at your life through a window? With this lesson, students are to create a self-portrait that is revealed through a window, inviting the viewer to look at their personal lives on a very normal, quiet day in their own environment. Then, a poem or short description attaches to the back and tells the story of their everyday life captured in the moment they’ve chosen to illustrate.
