PURPOSE: To introduce the rider and/or horse to the sport of dressage. To show understanding of riding the horse forward with a steady tempo into an elastic contact with independent, steady hands and a correctly balanced seat. To show proper geometry of figures in the arena with correct bend (corners and circles).RIDER #9816-1Link:

Horse has a very steady trot rhythm however, today the walk was not alway clear and had trot mixed in with it. Rider must stay in the saddle and not allow the horse to pull them out of the saddle. Make sure you establish the halt in both the beginning and the end of the test and the salute happens when both reins are in one hand and the other hand goes down by the rider's side. Today the horse took over the test a bit but you must be in control. The skills are there, you just have to have the confidence to use them. You can do this!
Today was a learning day. You have somethings to work on but skills are there if you have the confidence in yourself to use them. First, don't allow the horse to pull you out of the saddle. When that happens sit down more and feel like he is pullng you into the saddle not out. This happens when you sit up tall and there is a direct line from your elbows to the horse's mouth. If you sit like that, when the horse pulls, it just pulls you more into your seat. Try to have the correct bend. Even on the long sides the horse should be looking more to the inside than the outside of the arena. Remember that your 20 M circles always touch the sides of the arena. Make sure you establish the halt and salute. It is better to halt very crooked and salute then not halt at all. To help prevent the horse form trotting when you are suppose to be walking make sure your hips are walking. To do this one hip at a time going forward with the horse, so it is right hip, left hip, right hip left etc. In the trot both hips go together so the horse understands they are suppose to trot. Just a few hints to help you on your way. Good effort it will all come together!
