Writ Rewards

3
Gold Improvement
Gold Improvement materials scale with the LEVEL of writ you do (not character level)
4
WW/BS/Cloth/Enchanting
Approximately 3% at level 1 up to approximately 30% at level 10.
5
Jewelry
Drops are weighted to Terne/Iridium at low levels (about 50% chance of getting one)
6
At Max Level (level 5), guaranteed (100%) drop of a plating (weighted to Iridium (~35%), Zircon (~30%), Chromium (~25%), Terne (~10%))
7
Chance of double drops (~20% of time),
8
9
Surveys
Surveys have a 1 in 8 chance (~12.5%) regardless of level
10
Materials at the survey will be based 50% on the character's level and 50% on the crafting level
11
See the next tab over for shortest distance to "reset" surveys, as you'll save a lot of time collecting them when you have multiples at one location
12
Alchemy surveys can be "reset" by running away and respawning the node
13
Make sure to have Plentiful Harvest and Master Gatherer passives in The Green CP Tree
14
15
Leveling Alts
Fastest Way is to use Alchemy and Enchanting Master Writs (along with an XP scroll, during an XP event as well)
16
Make sure to have the Inspiration Boost passive in The Green CP tree for 20% more inspiration (crafting XP)
17
18
Master Writ Drops
Base chance seems to be in the 4-5% range
19
The voucher values you get from master writs are completely random (weighted towards purple quality)
20
Knowing more of those below only increases the CHANCE of getting a drop, NOT the quality of the drop or voucher value
21
Increasing Master Writ Drops
Alchemy
Fully learn all 4 traits of all base game reagents (unknown if DLC affects drop chance. ZoS has stated it's "achievement" based, and there is no achievement for DLC alchemy reagents)
22
Enchanting
Translate all runes
23
WW/BS/ClothLearn all 9-traits (~4-5% increase from all 9), learn as many COMPLETE purple motifs (knowing individual pages doesn't help, only completed ones) - seems to be heavily weighted to the first motifs learned (learn 10 full motifs on 10 characters will net more master writs than learning 100 motifs on 1 character)
24
Jewelry
Learn all 9-traits. (~12-16% increase from all 9)
25
Provisioning
Knowledge of Purple and Gold recipes
26
Master writ drop rates seem to cap out at about 15% (20% for jewelry) if you know ALL of the things that contribute to drop rate for that type.
27
28
Refining (per 10 units)
Make sure to be 3/3 in the extraction passives to extract the most tempers
29
Drop rates at 3/3 are 15% for Green, 12.5% for Blue, 7.5% for Purple, and 5% for Gold materials (without Meticulous Disassembly)
30
Meticulous Disassembly - This CP star active adds "1 level" to your extraction passive - at 3/3 + MD appears to increase the base drop rate by ~12.5% (Multiply by 1.125) of improvement materials
31
w/ MD Drop rates at 3/3 + MD are ~16.9% for Green, ~14.1% for Blue, ~8.4% for Purple and ~5.6% for Gold materials
32
Save your time and refine everything at once. No statistically significant evidence has ever been shared about "microrefining" "timing" or whatever other tin-foil "theory" there is out there. (If there truly is a bug, it's exploiting, and that can get you banned). If you have statistically significant evidence to the contrary, please share! Nobody does :)
33
34
Provisioning
Doing provisioning writs on multiple levels (for different characters) can net you some "rare" lower level recipes that do sell for more gold (and can be learned on alts for more drop chances)
35
Levels 1, 2 and 3 writs in provisioning are based on the character's ALLIANCE (4, 5 and 6 are the same regardless)
36

46
How Do I Collect Data
Dolgubon's LWC keeps a record of the writ rewards. /outputwritstats in chat will bring a menu up that shows all the rewards received
47
I reset the data (for writ rewards) at each patch to look for changes that might occur from patch to patch
48
As far as data analysis - even my sample sizes are only barely pushing the threshold patch to patch of "statistical significance" - so some variation is to be expected. A 1-2% variation in drop rates from patch to patch in things like surveys/master writs/gold improvment materials is EXPECTED
49
Binomial Analysis: For things that have two options w/ a drop rate (yes or no to recieve), can use the binomial analysis to see if our drops are statistically significant. anything <2.5% would suggest there is evidence to say the drop rate is lower than expected. Anything >97.5% would suggest the drop rate is higher than expected. (This corresponds to 2 standard deviations above or below the expected drop chance) A 50% here means we got exactly the expected drops. Anything between 2.5% and 97.5% is of no concern and simply due to randomness.

Can a Dev clarify how "tradeskill" affects Master Writ drop rates — Elder Scrolls Online
65
They’re measured individually, so from the example your investment in Provisioning would affect your odds of getting a Provisioning master writ and no other types.
66
67
Also, as we’ve seen a lot of collective concern regarding the impact of motif knowledge on your odds of receiving the (very valuable) Blacksmithing, Woodworking, and Clothier Master Writs, we’d like to reiterate that motif knowledge is only one component. That knowledge shouldn’t make, or break, your chances of receiving Master Writs on its own, but it does significantly influence those chances.

Master Crafting Writs: Some Questions — Elder Scrolls Online
70
Tradeskill mastery (which determines your odds of receiving a master writ from a top tier writ reward box) is meant to imply a long-term dedication to the craft. This varies from tradeskill to tradeskill.
71
72
For Blacksmithing, Clothier, and Woodworking, this means motif knowledge and overall completion of trait research. This does not include Crown-exclusive motifs or motifs for the 9 base player races. It focuses on motifs that take some effort to learn – like Xivkyn, or Minotaur, or Celestial.
73
For Provisioning, this is instead your collection of known purple and gold recipes as they are a strong overall representation of dedication to craft.
74
With Enchanting, we instead look at the total overall rune word translations you’ve completed on that character.
75
And with Alchemy, we look at how many reagents from which you’ve completely learned all effects.
76
77
Over time, the contributing factors for this may expand as the associated tradeskill mechanics do.

Homestead Guide: Master Writs - The Elder Scrolls Online
80
Further, Master Writs are only awarded to players completing the hardest normal crafting Writs, and are more common when you have a lot of dedication. For example, Blacksmithing, Woodworking, and Clothier Master Writs are more common if you've done a lot of difficult research; Provisioning Master Writs are more common when you've learned a lot of difficult recipes; Enchanting Master Writs are more common when you've translated a lot of runes; and Alchemy Master Writs are more common when you've fully identified a lot of herbs. The more you've done in that tradeskill, the better your odds on each normal Writ you complete

83
Q: Thank you for the article but it did not really clarify what we already knew in general about the chances to get Master Writs.
84
Is it blue, purple, and gold recipes that increases your chances or only purple and gold?
85
Does each Chapter of a motif increase your chances or only when a Motif is completed?
86
Does completing Achievements in general on the character increase your chances or only the crafting achievements?
87
A: Only Purple- and Gold-quality provisioning recipes and completed Motifs increase your chances of getting a Master Writ. Individual Motif Chapters do not increase your chances. Achievements are factored into Master Writ chances by way of learning associated Alchemy reagent traits and Enchantment glyph translations.
88
89
Q: Does that include the new motifs that were just introduced with this patch?
90
A: Yes, Motifs that aren’t Crown Store-exclusive (including the ones added with Update 13) are factored into Motif knowledge for the chance to receive Master Writs, with the playable race cultural Motifs being the exception. You may be asked to craft items in the playable race cultural Motifs to complete a Master Writ, but they do not contribute to your chances of getting a Master Writ.
91
92
Q: How much knowledge of Motifs helps to increase the rate of getting Master Writs?
93
A: Completing all of your research and learning all the applicable Motifs is weighted very similarly.
94
95
Q: With the introduction of furnishing crafting schematics, does knowledge of these influence Master Writ chances as they are "craftable goods"?
96
A: This doesn’t factor in at the moment, but we’ll be evaluating it for future growth of the system.

Your chance to get Master Writs will not go down when new Motifs are added to the game; your chance will only go up in small increments as you get more.
