This workbook is designed with the purpose of combining utility usage data (from bills or Green Button Data), PV production data (if available), and future load growth (if applicable) with the intent of assisting developers in sizing energy storage systems for a project site in accordance with the new Energy Storage Sizing Requirement (ESSR) guidelines. Below are instructions on how to use the tool, and are placed in sequential order. Skipping steps may result in an incorrect result, therefore, it is recommended that the instructions are followed in order.

Start by filling out the "Project Information" tab. This sheet contains fields for identifying the project site, and inputs to determine which sheets and methodology will be used to calculate the kWh limit. Clicking on each cell will reveal a drop-down menu, and selecting an option may cause certain sheets to be revealed or auto-hidden. If an incorrect selection is made, you can go back and update the field with the correct information. Each tab is explained in the color-coded sections shown below.

For systems paired with solar, the "Paired With Solar" option should be selected from the "Project Information" tab. There are up to two tabs for inputting solar data. The first tab is for preexisting solar systems and for new solar systems. The second tab is exclusively for expansions; that is where a preexisting system will be expanded. For situations where a new solar system will be installed, the preexisting solar tab should be used, as the tool does not consider a new solar system to be an expansion. See the yellow notes in each worksheet to determine what info should be inputted.

By default, the sheet takes hourly inputs from the PV Watts website. Visit (https://pvwatts.nrel.gov/) to download the solar generation report in hourly format, and copy-and-paste the information under the headers in Columns A-D to complete this tab. Alternatively, if the monthly aggregates are already known, the "Monthly Input" format can be used.
