I work as a physician, communicating directly and indirectly with persons from all walks of life and political ideologies. Over the years, one can feel a growing and palpable discontent with our federal government, the two-party duopoly, and perceived taxation without fair and just representation/ perceived lack of goods and services. This growing discontent has driven me to speak out and advocate for alternative political choice. I know the chance of making a substantial difference on a national level is marginal at best (given the lack of $$ within the Libertarian party, lack of cohesiveness, and uniform acceptance), but I feel compelled to do my part to help bring positive change to this great country.

Yes. (1) U.S. Senate race in Virginia in 2002. Accomplishments: 7% of the statewide vote--106,000 votes for a campaign based 100 percent on genuine libertarian principles (eg, open borders, immediately end Social Security and Medicare, separate school and state, legalize all drugs, etc). Secured the written endorsement of John O. Peterson, pastor of the Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia, who was elected to the African-American Hall of Fame. (1) First and foremost, I want to be free. The message of reform, which has come to define our party and our presidential campaigns, is not freedom. Freedom entails the dismantling of infringements on freedom, not their reform. (2) I want to bring an end to the federal killing machine, which Martin Luther King correctly called the greatest purveyor of violence in the world--invasions, occupations, wars of aggression, sanctions, embargoes, coups, inciting wars, proxy wars, state-sponsored assassinations, drug war, immigration controls, torture, indefinite detention, and extra-judicial executions.

Because I am a libertarian. Libertarianism is the only philosophy that can extricate our nation from the crises and morasses that Democrats and Republicans have foisted upon our land. It also holds the key to restoring liberty, peace, prosperity, and harmony to our land.

(1) Immediately dismantle Social Security, Medicare, and every other socialist program (that is, no reform, "privatization," "gradualism" or "off ramps.") (2) Dismantle the Border Patrol, ICE, and all restrictions on the free movements of goods, services, and people across borders.(3) Dismantle the national security state (ie, Pentagon, CIA, NSA, military-industrial complex, and vast empire of domestic and foreign military bases) and its massive killing machine.

Immediate abolition. No interim measures whatsover. Interim measures, no matter what length of time, involve a violation of the non-aggression principle and the pledge we all take when we join the Libertarian Party to never support the initiation of force. Interim measures also reflect a lack of faith in restoring freedom immediately.

After the nomination, there is always a tremendous window of opportunity to make our case to the media. We should use that opportunity to make the 100 percent principled case for liberty--ie, open borders, legalize all drugs, abolish Social Security, Medicare, dismantle the national security state (including the CIA and its assassinations, including the JFK assassination), restore a limited government republic, separate money and the state, healthcare and the state, education and the state, and economy and the state. The goal would be to use that window of opportunity to reach Americans who are looking for a viable alternative, which will then spread through word of mouth independent of the mainstream media. Thus: (1) Interviews on Spanish media (in Spanish, which I speak fluently) on the issue of open borders (2) Interviews on black media on the drug war, which I have long maintained is the most racist government program since segregation. (3) Interviews on media on the national-security state's assassination of John F. Kennedy, thereby reinforcing the message that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is stating on this issue. This is an issue that L.P. presidential candidate, for whatever reason, have long been silent. (4) Interviews on the immediate abolition Social Security, Medicare, and all other socialist programs. (5) Interviews on dismantling the national-security state, including the vast empire of foreign and domestic military bases, and the restoration of our founding system of a limited-government republic with only a small, basic military force.

Yes, but with major disagreements:

(1) There is no call for a dismantling of the national-security state, which is the greatest destroyer of our freedom. That includes the Pentagon and the CIA. It does call for the abolition of the NSA, the third part of the national-security state but that's not enough. The CIA is the most evil agency in U.S. history, especially with its program of state-sponsored assassinations (eg, Patrice Lumumba, Gen. Rene Schneider, Castro, Operation Condor,
JFK, and others). Also MKULTRA. The national security state is the greatest purveyor of violence in the world, as Martin Luther King correctly pointed out.

(2) No call for abolishing the FBI, an evil and malevolent national police force. Cointelpro. Secret files. Secret surveillance. Blackmail. By the way, when I joined the party, there were planks calling for the abolition of the FBI and the CIA. They were later deleted, presumably in the hopes of garnering votes from Republicans.

(3) We should make it clear that criminal justice should be the job of state and local governments, not the federal government.

(4). Given the popular acceptance of school vouchers, including inside the L.P., there should be a statement under Education that expressly opposes this program, given that it is nothing more than another socialist reform measure that uses the coercive apparatus of taxation (ie, the initiation of force) to take money from one person and give it to another person.

(5) Also on education, the sentence on homeschooling should be amended to read: "We support the rights of parents who choose to educate their children at home [or any other way they choose.]"

(6) Healthcare. No specific call for repealing Medicare and Medicaid, which, along with Social Security, are the crown jewels of American socialism. They are the root cause of the destruction of what had been the finest healthcare system in history. There is no way to restore healthcare freedom to America without the repeal of these two socialist programs. The platform statement: “We oppose expansion of existing tax supported plans to cover more people, including any form of 'Medicare for All'" implies a favoring of the continued existence of Medicare (but without an expansion of it).

(7) The platform should call for a complete separation of healthcare and the state, not just medicine and the state. Healthcare encompasses much more than just medicine. And it should advocate a separation of healthcare and the state at both the federal and state levels.

(8) Epidemics--We should oppose all governmental involvement in epidemics--ie, a complete separation of healthcare and the state.

(9) Poverty and homelessness. We should note here that zoning is the principal cause of homelessness because it denies the freedom of people to live in low cost housing. Also, we should note here that minimum-wage laws lock homeless people out of the labor market.

(10) Social Security. The platform should call for the immediate repeal of this socialist program, not just the elimination of it. (Some Libertarians favor the "elimination" of it in 25 years through "gradually" reducing it.) Immediate repeal should be the only position. Suggesting that participation be "voluntary" implies the continuation of the program, which necessarily means taxing some people to continue funding Social Security checks for years or decades into the future, which violates the libertarian non-aggression principle and the pledge we all take not to support the initiation of force. We need to lead the nation in the restoration of faith in freedom and voluntary charity and in opposition to socialism. Only a firm stance in favor of immediate abolition of socialism accomplishes this.

(11) Government whistleblowers section. We should include Julian Assange here.

(12) Jury nullification section. We should include a requirement that judges in both federal and state criminal cases should be required to inform the jury of their nullification power.

(13) The platform should emphasize the Constitution's requirement of a congressional declaration of war and encouraging Congress to impeach any president who violates it.

(14) I believe the platform should neither be pro-life nor pro-choice and simply leave it to each L.P. member and candidate to express his own position on the matter.

(15) Finally, space exploration and development is not a legitimate function of government. It should be made clear that we oppose governmental involvement in this area.

By presenting the principled, uncompromising case for libertarianism. That's what enabled me to break through the inches-thick indoctrination that had encased my mind. Soft-pedaling libertarian principles can't do that.

Our genuine libertarian principles are our greatest asset. They can enable us to achieve a major breakout of 10-15 percent of the national vote, so long as they are presented competently. More important, they are what can lead our nation (and me!) to freedom.

1. Ran for Congress (Florida - 20) in 2021-22. Made thousands of personal contacts and hundreds of thousands of electronic contacts delivering our message of liberty. The campaign launched a successful campaign of recruiting dozens of individuals to the Broward County LP.
2. Worked as a police officer for over eleven years in Broward County, Florida. This created opportunities to push back on areas ranging from the war on drugs to COVID tyranny. The experience also informed the development of my proposals to end the war on drugs and change local policy in the areas of law enforcement officer management, law enforcement agency contracting, zoning, housing, schooling and welfare.
3. Worked as an economist for the federal government for three years, including the White House for about two years and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation for a year. This experience informed my proposals to structurally limit the government's ability to spend and to eliminate foreign aid.

We have an obligation to get this right. This campaign is designed to succeed in two ways in which I strongly believe past LP presidential campaigns have failed. First, running on an uncompromisingly principled platform is the right thing to do both from the standpoint of (a) correctly branding the party for the benefit of down-ballot and future presidential campaigns and (b) strategically differentiating from the other parties to maximize exposure to voters, donors, and media. Second, running with a great deal of professionalism in terms of our messaging and support of our platform with detailed plans is what is necessary to clear the threshold of competitive credibility Americans require for them to pay attention. This is why we lean into my personal background in public policy and public service.

I am a libertarian. Running in any other way would be dishonest, irrespective of competitive temptations. Moreover, my policies are libertarian. I believe most Americans have a libertarian streak - though they would never characterize it as such - because, after all, libertarian principles align with American values.

1. Fundamentally changing foreign policy.

2. Institutional change of monetary policy and structurally changing the government’s ability to spend.

3. Shrinking the role of Federal government in regulating our economy and our personal lives and phasing out "three letter "agencies.

It is absolutely critical that the spell out steppingstones to objectives. If we don’t, we forfeit our credibility that we need in order to be competitive in the general election. This does not mean we compromise our objectives. This does not mean we shouldn't articulate our objectives.

Foreign policy can be changed right away.
Many Federal Regulations can be made immediately subject to the states.
We can defund many agencies and others we can break up their resources.
Some will require federal legislation.


STEP ONE: End unconstitutional regulation, which is to say, most regulations, as they exceed the authority which Congress is allowed to delegate to regulatory agencies.

STEP TWO: Reduce the federal workforce down to a level commensurate with the reduced regulatory mandate of regulatory agencies.

STEP THREE: Eliminate agencies in a consolidation to render a more economically efficient government structure and to preclude administrative resurrection.

ADMINISTRATIVE/LEGAL BACKGROUND

1. POTUS HAS THE CONTROL

Article Two of the Constitution vests the executive power of the US government in the president. The unitary executive theory of constitutional law holds that POTUS has the power to control the entirety of the executive branch, limited only by explicit law.



2. AGENCIES MAY NOT OBSTRUCT

The major questions doctrine in US administrative law holds that Congress can delegate to executive agencies issues of major political or economic significance only through explicit law. Agencies cannot take it upon themselves to interpret their authority to fill in the gaps left by Congress.



3. MANY REGULATIONS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL

West Virginia vs. EPA was a 2022 SCOTUS decision ruling that the regulation of existing power plants fell under the major questions doctrine, therefore certain EPA regulations were unconstitutional and were therefore terminated.



4. POTUS CONTROLS BUREAUCRATS

Under existing law, POTUS has the authority to set rules for the civil service, including reductions in force, which are subject to 60-day notice requirements and order-of-retention rules but are not limited by for-cause requirements.



5. POTUS & AGENCY HEADS HAVE REDUCTION-IN-FORCE AUTHORITY

Office of Personnel Management (OPM) rules give authority for regulations in force to agency heads. POTUS may override OPM rules and directly implement reductions in force.



6. POTUS HAS A REORGANIZATION MANDATE

The Reorganization Act of 1977 requires “The President shall from time to time examine the organization of all agencies and shall determine what changes in such organization are necessary to carry out any policy set forth . . . to reduce expenditures and promote economy to the fullest extent consistent with the efficient operation of the Government” and “‘to reduce the number of agencies by consolidating those having similar functions thereof as may not be necessary for the efficient conduct of the Government.”

This campaign represents a stark departure from what has represented the Libertarian Party in the past, in two ways.

First, I am running on an uncompromisingly principled platform called a Gold New Deal, representing a new relationship between us as American citizens and the government we will tolerate (see GoldNewDeal.org). Our team believes this is the right thing to do to correctly brand the Libertarian Party for the benefit of down-ballot candidates as well as for future national candidates. Having run for Congress as a Libertarian myself, I learned the hard way that the value of the LP brand is approximately zero. In no small part, I lay this shortcoming at the feet of past presidential campaigns. We also believe this is the right strategy to gain the most awareness among voters, big donors and the media. To motivate Americans to pay attention, they need to know that we represent a very different choice, that we are not seeking common ground with Republican or Democratic politicians as we have in the past. Yes, we must seek common ground with their supporters, and we will because their values better align with a Gold New Deal than they do with the legacy political duopoly.

Second, my campaign is the most professional and competitively credible organization in the race. In addition to having nineteen professionals on board, we lean into my personal background in public service that no other candidate can match. This background may not matter a great deal to many libertarians, but it will matter immensely to the American public in the general election. If a candidate cannot clear the threshold of competitive credibility expected of someone who could actually threaten to disrupt the duopoly, there is no reason for voters to pay attention, big donors to offer their support, or the media to tell our story.

For over two decades, I was a professional economist. I worked in commercial finance, for the White House and other government agencies, and as a professional advocate for free markets, greater competition and reduced regulation. I have taught economics at three universities. I launched and successfully ran an executive education and strategic consulting business, which I later merged into a larger firm. As a second career in public policy, I served as a police officer in Broward County, Florida, on the road for eleven years, all as a registered libertarian. It is true, that if one had not been a professional economist before becoming a cop, working as a cop will turn you into an economist, because you see the effects of bad public policy up close and personally. This is why I spend so much time talking about the need to fundamentally reform not only our criminal justice system in general – including ending the war on drugs – but also the way we manage law enforcement both at the agency level and at the officer level.
