Faculty Senate Information
2
The Faculty Senate typically meets in person during the academic year on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month from 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm. According to the Faculty Constitution, the functions and responsibilities of the Faculty Senate are the following:

- To oversee the functions of the standing faculty committees and to hear and act upon their reports, except for the Organization Committee which reports directly to the faculty.
- To formulate, deliberate upon, and interpret academic regulations and policies.
- To act as liaison between the faculty and the campus administration.
- To act as liaison between the faculty and the University of Wisconsin System upon matters within the limits of its competency and discretion.
- To engage in campus academic, budget, and resource planning.
- To act as a consultative agency for the campus administration upon those matters referred to it by the Chancellor.

Senators-at-large are elected from each rank by the faculty of that rank. Each rank is represented by 1 senator for every 20 faculty of that rank. Additionally, there are 21 constituency senators. The Colleges of Arts & Communication, Business & Economics, Education & Professional Studies, and Letters & Sciences elect 5 senators each. The College of Integrated Studies elects 1 senator. The term of office is 2 years, with college constituency senators elected in odd-numbered years and senators by rank elected in even-numbered years. Vacancies are filled by election, not by appointment.
