Contact game, icebreaker
One person is "rolling" up to other´s backs (he is lying hard like board) and then "crawling" on the floor uner their chest and bellys, while they are standing on 4 legs (2 hands and 2 knees like dogs).

1-2min, 3-10min
Mattress, space depends on number of participants,
One (more) is leader - safety...
People kneel down and make "dogs pozition" in one line - body between body very closely. Their backs are straight, not bent (not like cat).
First from line lie down to their back. He can choose, if lie down on his belly or his back.
Others try to moove him forward with their own mooving - little jumps with their bottoms - only safely.
Person lying down on their back is hard as a board.
In the end of line, there is anybody, who helps to soft fall down the floor.
Then the person, who was lying starts to crawl under their bellys - like in a tunnel to the place, wher he starts.
Icebreak to real contact - touching.

Everybody in line lying on their backs and have arms up. Moovement of one person is only up to their hands - need to help with anybody staing next to. Or can use rope.

Great balance for "light people (children)" - walking on hands trying to keep in balance...
For group after some time their know each other.
One or more people keep safety - balance... (not to fall out of mattress).
Start to lying on backs, then second round lying on belly.

26.3.2015 12:04:57Magic Forest
This is team scissor/paper/stone tag game. 2 teams compete to increase their number of players on their team.

Focus / Concentration, Group dynamics
63-10min
Playing area needs to be a medium to large area to run around in
Set the scene in a magic forest. There are 2 teams that divide to each end of the playing area. Each team decide in secret on being a Giant, a Dwarf or a Wizard. Giant is represented by a tall shape, dwarf a small shape and wizard is arms forward casting a magic spell. They come together in 2 lines facing each other. On a count of 3, they all hit their shape. Giants tag dwarves, dwarves tag wizards and wizards tag giants. The tagging team has to tag as many as the opposite team as possible before they get back to their side. They take the tagged people back to their side and their team is bigger. The game is over when there is only one team left. If the two teams hit the same shape then the game is reset.
It energetic, fun, reaction time challenge, increases tension, introduces theatre and working as a group.

It empowers the group to create their story and for those inexperienced leaders it is a gentle way into story telling where you facilitate a story rather than come up with the ideas yourself.

and to run around the cercle
everybody is standing in a circle

the first person calls out his name and starts to run around the cercle while the other ones are 'passing' the name of that person . (-like in passing the clap around the circle-) That name is spoken out aloudly by every member of the circle.
The runner tries to be ahead of his name
When the runner arrives back at his/her , place, the name is called out for the last time by every body together
it feels nice to run and to hear your name following you
at the end , there is good boost to have everybody calling out your name together

trapezes and safety mats
12 to 30 of the same cards with aerial positions on it
for every pair a checklist with all the twin positins on it
in pairs,
each pair gets a card with the list of twin positions that are on the cards
all players can play at the same time, there is no order in who is on, once the game started well
In the beginning one couple is turning two cards, looking at the positions, trying to remember where there are lying, turning them back over
They have to go and execute those positions before they can come back to turn two other ones
The purpose is to find all the twin cards
If you find twin cards,, you tag them on your list , and you need to execute them , the two of you perfectely synchronized
If you witness players turning a twin set, you are not allowed to turn those cards at your turn. You have to wait (first turning two other cards) before you are allowed to turn the twinset (if you still remember...)

you can use it to train trapeze positions in a playful way , players are mostly very motivated by the game and are repaeating during the game a lot of time the positions

you can also put only the NAMES of the positions so it becomes als a game to know the name of the position

you can change it into a creative game, by putting e.g. photos of animals on the cards, they have to invent their own animal on the trapeze,
or the letters of the alfabeth, or fairy tale characters or...

you can shorten the time by taking away the found twin cards,
but then not everybody will have the chance to train all the positions
be aware that most likely
the positions will be executed in a quick way, so don not put too dangerous tricks on the card

Great for change energy of group - slow to fresh.
Focus / Concentration, Group dynamics

1-2min, 3-10min
Nothing is required. Playing area - only for circle of people. Height - even low.
People will listen short story about "to be tired". Imagine, that their legs hurt after many many walking kilometers.

Then people stand up - make circle.
One person hold imaginary live mouse and release this mouse to running under people feets. Leader is in the middle of circle and shows with arm, where mouse exactly is in every moments. Mouse is running still more and more quickly.
Next level is, that people have to jump first with left and next right leg (according to direction of mouse running). Leader can change the speed and direction.

Later mouse turns into a imaginary bird, who is not running under people´s feets, but flying above people´s heads... more higher.
Aim to clap with hands behind his tail.
Leader is in the middle - show, where bird is and can change speed and direction.
Leader can be changed with anyone from the group.
People can really feel tired - and really could not imagine, that they will jumping - after game is energy of group really different.

JUGGLENG MATHEMATICS
Circle game, when each person hold a ball and in one common moment everybody throw it straight above themselves (1 meter above head) and everybody make one step in a circle - so leave their own balls and try to catch ball, which was thrown by person in front of him.
Focus / Concentration, Group dynamics, Skill development
4
3-10min, 10-20min
Balls (best to catch and not jumping so much) or another juggling props. Area - bit large for free moove. Hight - ordinary ceeling.
FIRST STEP
Circle game, when each person hold a ball and in one common moment everybody stretched out their arms (hand with ball) to the middle of the circle.
Leader say "now" and everybody releas the ball on the ground - so there is little circle of balls in the middle of circe.
Now everybody make one little step to left (or right - leader) - so everyone stands in front of ball, which was threwn by his neighbor.
Now everybody pick up this new balls and make it several times.
Everything must be in one common rhythm - leader.

This "falling down the balls" is only rehearsal for throwing up the balls in next step.

SECOND STEP
Everybody train to throw the ball - really straight up - app. 1 meter above head - really straight - not left, right, back... and catch it.

THIRD STEP

When leader say "now" - everybody throw their balls straight above themselves (1 meter above head) and soon quickly everybody make one step in a circle - so leave their own balls and try to catch ball, which was thrown by person in front of him.

FOURTH STEP - changing directions - mathematics
Leader helps to count (to say "now") - later everybody are in silent.
Mathematics - for example - 1 left - turn - 1 right, 2 left - turn - 2 right, 3 left - turn - 3 right, ... and then back to one...
People must be concentrated - for accurate throwing, for catching, for group dynamics, for counting...

If the rhythm is really common, everybody are full-mind in a game.

If anyone loose the rhythm or loose in conting - can be lead by group dynamics - even if there is not "saying leader".

In mistake time - who did not catch - go to sit away.

People in a circle can stay by face to the middle or can stay in one line (in a circle) - so, when they throw - next step is not to left or right, but forward or back. Still they throw stright above head.

Mathematics formulas can be diffrent - for remembering (for example 125521)

Leader can be changed time by time.

Advanced jugglers can juggle with 3,4... balls in the beginning and throw one and catch another one with continous juggling.
The most important is to throw it clear and fine - to easy catching.
Neighbor is not enemy - is friend and I try to throw it as best as possible for him.

Variants with leaving out (when someone make mistake) is good for group, who play this game for many times before...

OVER ONE & ONE BACK
Circle game for group, when they send "signal" - tap with hand or feet to the ground. Every tapping hand (or feet...) has number in a line: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 ...
Someone starts and send signal - everybody are watching and waiting for their turn.
Important is continously rhythm.
System of sending is easy and still same - by this formula:

It is good - that there is leader in the beginning of the game and is in the middle of circle and shows correctly, which hand or feet is tapping in a moment.
This game seems to be very easy and "boring", but when is your turn in a moment, it is difficult to do it right.

Many variantions and opportunities for creativity.

1.4.2015 9:51:30Bomb & Shield
Group game where each person picks another person to be their bomb and a different person to be their shield. When the games starts the idea is to keep their shield in between themselves and their bomb in order to be protected. It's a warm up game physically and mentally as it requires some strategy.
Group dynamics81-2min
No equipment necessary just need a space to run around in.
Walking around the space, in your mind pick a person to be your nasty character (bomb, witch, wolf etc.). This is the person you need to stay away from. Then pick another person to be your protector (shield, hero). When the games leader says GO you must keep your protector in between you and your nasty person. When the games leader says STOP. Everyone freezes. The games master then sees who indeed is protected by seeing if the protector is in-between target and nasty person. If you are protected then you score a point. The game is repeated a few times and the winner is the one with the most points.
It is a quick way to warm people up and also a good getting to know you game as you instantly have to react with people. Because your protector is always moving around it is difficult to keep them still and to protect you so it is quite fun and annoying too.

Two players are opposite to each other, in mirror. The game starts by both of them clapping on their thighs and then doing a "Hi10". Then, they will repeatedly clap on their thighs and chose a direction with their hands: up, down, left, right.
If the two players chose a different direction, then they continue. If they chose the same direction (in mirror), then they clap on their thighs and have to do a "Hi10". And they continue until somebody makes a mistake.
This game can go faster and faster as the players get more skilled.
It is a quick game, about focus and coordination.

29.4.2015 2:37:16Me-You-Us
Players learn different sequences called 'me,' 'you' and 'us' and have to keep the chain of action of those sequences going with up to all three sequences running at once.
Focus / Concentration, Group dynamics
63-10min
The game requires only a group of people in enough space to make a comfortable circle. Variations can be made for having slightly less people than desirable.
The group makes a circle with everyone facing the centre. The facilitator starts a sequence by walking to another group member and saying ‘Me,’ to them. The person who has been ‘me’d’ then leaves their place (the facilitator fills it) and they walk to another person in the circle and then say ‘Me,’ to them. That person then leaves their space to allow their ‘me-er’ fill it and they continue the pattern. The last person to be ‘me’d’ returns to ‘me’ the facilitator, thus creating a closed loop where every person has another person who ‘me’s’ them, and they have another person who they will then ‘me.’ No one should be ‘me’d’ more than once.

Once that sequence is established, the group practices this so that everyone remembers their ‘Me’, and the group can do it easily. The sequence should keep repeating smoothly.

When the facilitator is satisfied that everyone understands and remembers, they begin a ‘You’ sequence. The process as above is repeated, yet the sequence is made in a different order. Everyone now has to remember their ‘Me’ and their ‘You.’ The group will practice the ‘You’ sequence, until the facilitator is happy that the group remembers the sequence.

The facilitator will then start off the ‘Me’ sequence, and once that is going well, they will start off the ‘You’ sequence. The idea is to keep the two going without losing either sequence due to confusion or miscommunication. The group will practice this for a little while.

If the group is doing well with ‘me’ and ‘you’, ‘ the facilitator can create a unique ‘Us’ sequence. When the group is ready, the facilitator will get the ‘me’ sequence going, then slowly add in the ‘you’ sequence, then finally, add the ‘us’ sequence.
This is a great way to quiet down and focus a group. People connect thru the eye contact and simple interaction. If the whole group isn't focusing, the chain will be broken, and that let's the whole team down. In this way, this game is good for team building and working together. Because this game is a bit of a mind bender in its final stage, it can be a challenge for teens/t'weens as well as adults - which is good for breaking down kid-adult barriers.

Damzels, Knights and Cavaliers
- Participants walk around the space.
- There is a caller, who shall call out either damsels, knights or cavaliers.
- When the participants hear one of these words called, they must respond by creating a shape, with a partner as quick as possible.
Group dynamics, Skill development
1010-20min
The size of the space depends on how big the group of participants is.
Depending on the confidence level of the group and the leader, there may be a desire to use thin gymnastic/scatter mats or tumble runs.
This is a good game to be played on grass.
- Participants walk around the space.
- There is a caller, who shall call out either damsels, knights or cavaliers.
- When the participants hear one of these words called, they must respond by creating a shape, with a partner as quick as possible.

ALL SHAPES ARE CREATED WITH A PARTNER

- A KNIGHT: One person kneels down on all fours (in a box position) The other, sit over their position. This person is the knight. They must mime having a shield and a sword.
- A DAMZEL: One person picks up another, like the are carrying a baby. The person being carried is the damzel and must mime being in distress.
- A CAVALIER: One person crouches down on one knee, whilst another sits down on their upright knee. Both cavaliers must mime having a moustache.

The aim of the game is to make the correct shape as soon as possible after it has been called. The last pair to create the shape is banished to the dungeon* for one round of the game. The dungeon has it's own dungeon master who is in charge of issuing a dungeon activity.

*The activities that happen within the dungeon can be strength, flexibility, skill or performance orientated. For example, press ups or V-sits to give a conditioning focus to the game. Or, there may specific ball juggling skills. The dungeon should be group dependent.

This game can also be played as a knock out game to add competition!
- Can be used to help drill circus skills
- Encourages interaction between members of the group
- Allows individuals to become comfortable with being tactile when working and playing in circus
- Creates different roles that are easily interchangeable with different participants (e.g.: the leader could easily be a member of the group, not just the mentor in charge)
- Encourages friendly competition

- Other shapes can be added depending upon the ability of the group e.g.: box on box, totem, two high
- Damzels, Knights and Cavaliers it's a knockout.
- When introducing the game, ensure that you cover the safety points for the shapes you are asking the participants to create

A KNIGHT: The base for this position should ensure that their hips are over their knees and their toes are pointing directly behind them. Likewise, their shoulders should be directly over their wrists and their fingers pointing directly forwards. They should try and keep their core strong and their back as flat as possible.
A DAMZEL: the base should be prepared for individuals who may be over confident and jump into this position!
A CAVALIER: In a similar manner to the knight, bases in this position should ensure that hips are in line with knees and toes.
This game is difficult to manage with more than 30 people

Team wins if they get 10 passes. Counting starts again if the ball touches the ground or other team gets the ball. It also resets the 10 if the ball goes to the ground and the same team gets it.

Game starts when the game leader throughs the ball in the middle and the ball touches the ground. Then both teams can start running after the ball. Game leader is counting the passes.

It's very simple! On the word GO!, each individual begins throwing their single ball up and catching it again. The only real rule (flexible depending upon age) is that the ball must leave the hand by a few inches at least. Any intervention by adjacent chuckers is allowed (although the referee may intervene if rough play is excessive) to try and make the opponent drop their ball or hold on to it for too long, while maintaining control of their own. Last guy standing wins!

Everyone in the group closes their eyes. One person, before closing the eyes too, has to choose one person (could even be himself) who will be the 'black patato'. The black patato has to search for the other patatos while the other patatos have to try to avoid meeting the black patato as long as possible. So every-one walks around blindly and when patatos meet they wisper to each-other : what they are 'patato' or 'black patato' (only one is the black patato). Nothing happens when two patatos meet, but when you encounter the 'black patato' you make a high pitched dieing screech, you can open your eyes and 'drop' to the floor. You are now officially a 'dead patato'. When dead you don't leave the game area, however you stay where you dropped dead, lying on the floor and continue watching the game :-). When patatos (black or not black) bump into you, you yell out: 'dead patato'. This serves as a sound mark for those still alive in the game. The last patato to be 'killed' wins the game and can indicate the next 'black patato'.
It's exiting to walk around blindly, trying to focus on the sounds the others make. You hear the screams of patato's dieing, which builds up the tension. Even when dead it is fun to watch the movements and reactions of those still alive and of course when you make yourself as large a possible on the floor you can have a big influence on the procedings of the game because many patatos will bump into you.

- dead patatos can go home (when parents are waiting), of course this way they miss the end and the fun of being a 'dead patato'
- two or more black patatos (depends on the group size) : when to 'black patatos' meet, the first one to laugh like a villain ('moehahahaha') continues living the other is dead
- when dead you have to go to 'patato hell' or 'patato heaven' which can be another game arena or which can be an exercise or ...
Beware of the bounderies of the game arena. No charp or hard objects to bump toes or feet. No tripping over something. Possible the game leader(s) should not participate in the game to watch over the safety of the game.

This is limbo whilst wearing stilts
23-10min
Multiple sets of stilts. Two people prepared to hold a solid bar (staff, broom handle etc) at a constant height per round
like normal limbo the aim is to get under the bar without touching it. However with stilt limbo you don't have to go under backwards and you are allowed to put one knee on the floor (but not two)
This game evens out ability as smaller people will tend to find it easier and it is often the taller people who have the more skill on stilts.

Bring your favourite juggling / spinning / manipulation equipment. Space needs to be big enough for everyone to play together.
This is a circus version of the well known game musical statues with circus equipment. Everyone is playing/dancing with their own juggling / spinning / manipulation equipment and if the music stops they all freeze/drop. A game master is needed to operate the music and spot anyone moving.
If someone moves the Game Master can give them a warning and pay more attention next time (if it's used as a warm up game we want them to play as much as possible) . Otherwise they are out of the game instantly if they didn't freeze/drop for the pause. Then they can join the game master and help in the spotting (warning this can get cruel with primary age children seeking revenge.)
I find it a very good warm up / wind down game.
In professional training it helps in finding pauses and alternative ways of picking up toys / equipment in the event of drops.

Different kind of stuff: juggling props, chairs, bottles, teddy bears, vegetables, etc... as many and different things as possible.
First, the stage is filled with many random objects.
Second, one person must leave the group, then the audience decides what this person will show on stage with the objects (his quest). It can be anything: juggling with balls, eating a banana, putting a ring on a chair, etc.. Then the audience calls back the person.
Third, the person arrives on stage and must find out what was his/her quest. The audience is only allowed to help by clapping when the person makes the right choices.
It finishes when the quest is done, by a bursting of clapping.
It obliges the person on stage to be always connected with the audience.
It shows, in a friendly way, what is it to be vulnerable on stage.
When the person is close, but still not doing the good thing, it creates a funny moment for the audience which can be frustrating for the person on stage.

Anything.
Some objects are welcome, but the game can also be played without anything.
First, some papers are prepared with "a curse" written on it: provoke a "Aaah", provoke a "Oooh", make people laugh, make a least one person saying "no!", silence for 30 seconds, clapping, standing ovation, someone must yawn, etc...
Then, one person is going on stage and picking up a paper ; this person must do what is written on the paper to break the curse (without saying it aloud).
The person cannot leave the stage untill the curse was broken.
It obliges a constant connection between the person on stage and the audience.
The person on stage must have a very specific energy to provoke the reaction.
The audience must be cooperative.
If someone feels confortable on stage (which can be nice), the game can last as much as this person decides.

- Flush the toilet: one person kneels with one knee up, and one hand in the air. Their rescuer must sit on the 'toilet' and pull the flush chain (the upraised hand)

- Shake a leg: Tagged person stands with one leg raised in front of them. Rescuer grabs this leg with one hand, and offers their own leg to be held. Both players then hop 3 times, and are back in.

- Watever type of conditioning your students need to do!

Everyone is running, and it's a great warm up game.
It teaches teamwork, trying to save everyone.
You can use it to introduce different body positions, skills or conditioning exercises.

Always use a soft ball that won't hurt, and throw underarm. Throws above the waist aren't counted, and can get painful.

Starting with one jumping popcorn on the hot pan, the pan quickly fills up with popping corn grains.
Group dynamics101-2min
One person is chosen to be a popcorn. Others are corn grains, that are on a huge, hot pan. A popcorn is jumping and with each jumps is saying "pop, pop, pop". Others are walking as fast as they can with very small steps (knees together) and saying fast "hot, hot, hot". If the popcorn will touch a corn grain, it turns into popcorn and starts to jump too. Corn grains are trying to get away from the popping people. Very quickly everybody are turned into jumping popcorn pieces and the game is over.
It's a funny way to warm up.

4.4.2016 4:33:08Magic Ball
A version of poison ball with 2 types of ball, one to capture and one to free.
Skill development810-20min
3 Balls, one that is easily distinguishable to the other 2. 2 or 3 different colours of balls is enough to be able to do this.
Type of playing area doesn't really matter. A large open space is probably the easiest.
The structure of play is everyone vs everyone (individual teams). For my example, I will use 2 blue balls and one yellow ball. The blue balls are the poison balls and the yellow ball is the magic ball. Anyone can grab any ball that is on the floor and throw it. You are not allowed to move/walk/run whilst holding a ball. If you are hit by a blue ball, you must sit down on the spot where you were hit. The only way to come back into the game is to come into possession of the yellow magic ball. If you can hold the yellow magic ball with 2 hands, then you are allowed to stand up and come back into the game. If you are in possession of the yellow magic ball, and you are hit by a blue poison ball, you must drop all balls in your possession, leave the playing area, and perform a penalty task (e.g. 15 push-ups). If you come into possession of a blue poison ball while you are 'out' and sitting down, you may still thrown the ball at someone else and get them 'out'.
If a blue poison ball is thrown at someone and then caught on the full, the thrower of the poison ball is 'out'.
This game offers a continuous style of play but also includes helping other people out by passing around the magic ball.

You can also introduce the rule that if you are tagged whilst holding any ball, you are out, and must give the ball to the person who tagged you.

9.1.2017 8:20:52Plates up/down
Two teams have opposing objectives: 1 team must flip all plates upside down, while the other team must turn all plates right-side up.
Group dynamics4
1-2min, 3-10min
Plates (I use plastic spinning plates) or another flat-ish object that has an 'up' and a 'down' side.
At least 2 plates per person.
Prep:
Split group into two teams.
Set plates on ground in playing area; half start upside down, other half start correct-side up.

Game:
Each team starts on opposite sides of the playing area.
Each team is allocated a role.
One team aims to turn all the plates upside down.
The other team aims to turn all the plates correct-side up.
On the referees call, all players run into space and begin turning plates (to suit their objective).
Players continue until referee calls 'freeze'.
The referee counts how many plates are face up, and how many are face down to determine the winner.
Can be played multiple times.
Is a simple set up.
