Meaningful Conversations Framework:
An Introduction

This framework has been developed following extensive research
with young people, parents, carers and Social Work Practitioners
from across Renfrewshire.

These conversations initially explored what would support young people
to be able to feedback in ways and at times that worked for them.
What was discovered was that
quality, face-to-face conversations
were considered the most
effective and important method of
communicating.

This framework contains a series of categories and indicators that
demonstrate what a
meaningful conversation, in the context of
children's social care, should involve.

It is designed to give
practical guidance to Social Work Practitioners
for them to be able to use over the course of their work with
young people. It is also intended to
provide indicators against which
progress can be
evaluated. Finally, it is hoped the framework will
support:
consistent, young person-centred practice across settings,
the
development of new tools and approaches for both practitioners and
young people, and act as an
accountability mechanism for any service
changes deemed necessary.

In order to make the framework as useful and aligned with current policy
and practice as possible, the relevant
Care Inspectorate and SHANARRI
indicators have been mapped to each corresponding category.

It is intended that this document is updated over time, to ensure it
stays relevant and reflective of the realities experienced by young people
and Social Work Practitioners.
