4	Sensory details (sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch) used throughout the story work on two levels: help reader imagine the scene AND reveal something about the character or setting/context). 7	Speech (dialogue), thoughts, effect on others, actions, looks that reveal character traits (not directly stating the trait, but revealing it through the STEAL details). Examples: “She stumbles out of the dark alley, thinking, what did I just witness? –Daniela's story “She scribbled furiously in her notebook, her bright brown hair tangled and frizzy around her face.” –Melissa's story “‘Almost done,’ the girl kept repeating, below a whisper.” –Melissa's story

10	Details should reflect when and where the story is taking place. The reader should also get a sense of how the setting influences the character's perspective. Examples: “Seeing a group of butterflies isn’t as beautiful when you’ve just been abandoned in a foreign country.” –Paige's story “The hollow sounds of the Forest surround your thoughts. The emptiness of the tents next to you and in front of you.
