The strongest theme is dont let other people tell you to not be yourself, because the Handicapper General made it so people are equeal and that s taking away from people being theirself and showing their true potential. One page of first paragh it says, ¨Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else.¨ This shows that they will never know the true potential they have. One page 6 it says, ¨And then, neutraling gravity with love and pure will, they remained suspended in air inches below the ceiling, and they kissed eashother for a long, long time.¨ When Harrison was on the stage with the ballarina it symbolizes to everyone that when everyone is diffrent and not equal then life becomes more enjoyable, you get way better quality of shows, and you can acheive more with peoples diffrent mindsets.AlbrightShelby5th

i think the strongest theme is everyone deserves equality. because in the book he was thrown in jail for apperently trying to overcome the government when he was trying to show them that not eveyrone is the same and it would be boring if they all were. "He tried. Thats the big thing. He tried to do the best he could with what god gave him. He should get a nice raise for trying so hard." is a quote in harrison bergeron and this shows how he tryed his best to make people believe him and stand by him.asmusella5th

The theme is that in a society that is completly equal and does not descrace one another harrison bergeron was sentaced without trial and a quote " I stand here he bellowod cripeld hobbled sickkend. he belives that the society he lives in is unfair and wants to start a revolution and expresses it by danceing with the dancer which could develop into revolutiany symbols that can make him progrse in starting a revolution.BandaEthan4th

Always fight for what you think is right. On page 4 its says, "Harrison and his Empress merely listened to the music for a while-listened gravely, as though synchronizing thier heartbeats with it. They shifted their weights to their toes. Harrison placed his big hands on the girls tiny waits. letter her sense the weightlessness that would soon hers." This is actually very connected to the world, so many people think others are bad because of how they look and because of their past. But what they dont realize is that people can change, and they arent always bad people.
Another quote form the story also on page 4, "And the, in an explosion of joy and grace, into the air they sprang! Not only were the laws of the land abandoned, but the law of gravity and the laws of motion as well. They reeled, whirled, swiveled, flounced, capered, gamboled, and spun. They leaped like deer on the moon." This shows that Harrison was showing his story and feelings by dancing instead of telling the audiance and viewers in a microphone. The theme is always fight for what you think is right and that is why.
Two symbols from both the movie and book are, the masks and weights. The masks are a symbol of beauty because all they ballet dancers and all pretty people have to wear them so others dont get destracted by their beauty. Weights are a symbol of strength and power, this is a symbol because everyone who is strong has to wear weights so the people that arent as strong dont feel bad. These are basically just signs that everyone has to be the same in that community, and nobody can stand out and show their true personalities.

The strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is that freedome should be a path to explore not to be confined to one road.

On page 5 it says "The music began. It was normal at first -cheap, silly, false. But Harrison snatch two musicians from their chairs, waved them like batons as he sang the music as he wanted it played. He slammed them back into their chairs. The music began again and was much improved."

On that same page "They shifted their weights to their toes. Harrison placed his hands on the girls tiny waist, letting her sense the weightlessness that would soon be hers. And then, in an explosion of joy and grace, into the air they sprang."

On page 4 "I am the Emperor!" cried Harrison. "Do you hear? I am the Emperor! Everybody must do what I say at once!" He stamped his foot and the studio shook. "Even as I stand here" he bellowed. "crippled, hobbled, sickened - I am the greater ruler than any man who ever lived! Now whatch me become what I can become."

In concludion all of these sites from the music, dance, and becoming free proves that the theme is that freedome should be a path to explore not to be confined to one road.

the storgest theme from Harrison Bergeron is dont let others pole you down or keep you from reaching your full patenchel. in todays susiutie you are rerorded for dooing good and wining you are told to do your best. we help people get better and reach there full putenchel well in the story we see people getting what thay call handeycaps so you cant do better so you are equal to the wekist slowist and dumist people there is. you got wats put on to way you down and to make you slower and a mask to hide your buittie. and it says on page one " had a little mental handicap radio in his ear. he was required by law to wear it at all times. " this was to keep him from thinking more than someone elce. but even with all of this stuff to make someone equal you cant make everything eqaul there will always be diferencs like to one pirson somon might be the most ugley pirson you have ever sean but to another pirson thay might be the most butittlf pirson you have ever sean therer is no way to have pirfick equalitey and in this story we lirne that you cant let othere pole you down or keep people from reaching your full patenchle. bihnermyah5th

I believe that that the theme is that sameness and perfection can never be achieved. That is the strongest theme because most people in the book are limitied to what they can do because the society that they live in wants everyone to be equal. George for example has a distracting alarm every time he tries to remember or think to hard. An annoying sound will go off whenever he's getting "Too Smart". On page 1, it states, " Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than everybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and the unceasing vigilence of agents of the United States Handicaper General.BoeseneilersCasey8th

The the strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is to let the actitives or people bring you joy and don't let other take it away from you only to be equal with everyone else. The strongest quote to support my claim is on page 5 which states, "And then, in explosion of joy and grace, into the air they sprang! Not only where the laws of land abandoned, but the laws of gravity and the laws of motion as well. They reeled, whirled, swiveled, flounced, capered, gamboled, and spun. They leaped like deer on the moon." This quote supports my claim, because its shows how when people are given the chance to do what they want with no restaints they can soar and have the freedom that they want. The deer on moon is a great symbol, because of how a heavy men coudl look effortless on the stage feels like a deer on the moon. The connects to the real world, because in dance, you always want to look effortless and reach for your dreams. Also, most dance teachers say dance is where you let go of all the stress and step into the room with a new mindset. This can go with anything in life, because sometimes people want to make us equal, but is being the same in everything we do, really the best choice in our socitey. Overall, the strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is to let the actitives or people bring you joy and not letting others take it away from you to only be equal with everyone else. BrowningTaylor2nd

I think the strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is how being your true self is right. One quote from this story to prove this is on page 2 " Ladies and Gentlemen", said the ballerina, reading the bulletin. She must have been extraordinarily beaitiful, because the mask she wore was hideous. And it was easy to see that she was the strognest and most graceful of all the dancers." I think this is a good quote to support my theme because everyone, including herself, knows she is talented and so beautiful but yet she is forced to hide who she really is. This is extremely unfair and only proves how difficult hiding and faking who you are can be and the toll it can take on you. I think this connects to the real world as well because there is a lot of people in our community that are insecure about themselves and they are trying to change themselves for other people or to just simply "fit in" when all its really going to do is hurt you and bring you down. No matter what is done, all cannot be controlled and those will still rebel. I feel this is the strongest theme because even after they put handicap bags on them, chains, headphones diabling most thoughts and memories, and lock them up... he still found a way to escape it. A good symbol or signpost would be Again and Again becuase multiple things reappear multiple times. One example is the ear radio noises. On page #1, we are introduced to these ear radios where every 20 seconds, a loud noise is displayed. This happens so that tey do not have full access to their brains such as things like memories or train of thought. Througbiut the rest of the story, we are told about these ear radios making loud noises so that this effect is put into action. A secopnd example is Harrison being uncontrollable. Towards the beginning, we are told about how we has been put in prison for doing actiuons against the rules AKA rebeling against them because he is a genius. Towards the middle-end of the story, he escapes and rebels once more before being shot. We know this because on page #4 it states that he has escapes prison and has "raided" the oerformance and out on his own. drea schmidtdrea schmidt4th

The strongest theme in Harrision Bergeron is when people are naturaly good at something they get farther ahead at that particular thing but a world where those natural instincts or genes are illegal everyone suffers. The first example of this is the main character george, his intelligence is way above normal and has to ware an ear peice that blasts a random loud noise in his ear every time he thinks to make him not remember. George is not the only one that has to do this and pretty much everone that has some kind of advantege like beauity or intelligence has to ware some kind of handicap to stop that from being shown. This suports my theme because not only is george in pain but hazel watches him go through that and feel terrible too along with all the other peoples loved ones. On page one george is watching ballerinas on TV and he thinks "maybe dancers shouldn't be handicapped." This quote shows that not only do the extrodinary dancers get pushed down and degraded but the people watching them dont get the full enjoyment of a beautiful dance but the level of the lowest dancer in the show. Lastly Harruson Bergeron is a great example of this beause he had extrodinary inteligence and strength and had by far the most handicaps. He was taken to jail becasue of that and when he excaped he tried to show everyone how beautiful the world could be with all of the differences. This supports my theme because the only character that belived in the end differences are like color and with out them the whole world is grey and no one gets to enjoy the beautiful sights if everthing is grey was Harrison himself. In conclusion the strongest theme in Harrision Bergeron is when people are naturaly good at something they get farther ahead at that particular thing but a world where those natural instincts or genes are illegal everyone suffers.EllefsonTori2nd

I think the stringest theme in the book/movie was Equality is improtant, but Iduviduality is the most important. A symbol that represents this is the loud sounds coming from the ear peices. The lound noises scare them into submission and stop them from thinking. without thinking when can't grow our minds to discover who we are inside. Without discovering ourselves, we can't establish our induvidality and be our true self. On page 6 it says " Gee - I could tell that one was a doozy," said Hazel. "You can say that again," said George. "Gee-" said Hazel, "I could tell that one was a doozy." hazel repeats herself because George said, " you can say that again," She didn't realize that he was joking. A world like this where everyone is equal would be bland and feel almost empty. Without being able to establish our induviduality, it's almost like there would be nothing fun to do in the world. Just empty days full of work.EvansLela4th

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is that diversety is good. It helps take the golorify cation that everyone being exactly equal is skill level and mind power isn't as great as it might seem. An example of peace of evidence supporting this point is this quote from the text " It wasn't clear at first as to what the bulletin was about, since the announcer, like all anouncers, had a serious speach impediment. For about half a mintue, and in a state of high excitement, the annoucer tried to say, " Ladies and Gentlemen." He finally gave up giving the bulletin to the ballerina to read." This is a great example of how diverity in skill sets and stuff is good because if everyone had to stoop to the lowest level to make everything equal things would be like this, even if in real life you might be jealous or envious of someone else for what ever type of skills or abilitys they have like Alexzander Grand Bell creating the phone (I think?) you could look at it in a mind set of jealousy wish that stellar idea and smarts layed within you but what this story is really trying to convey is that you is that you shouldn't be jealous if people are better for you,you should learn to be gratful for what those people can do and how there contubations could and do help society. The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron was Anti-Hero he wasn't a true hero because of the way he hurt people, "But Harrison snatched two musicians from their chars, waved them like batons as he sang the music as he wanted it played." P.g. 5 lines 140-142 Like this quote states he wasn't very aware of how he treated people. So as the story continued on he also showed how he could be a new sense of hope he showed people how to free themselves from the governments futile attemps at an all equality land, "And then, in an explosion of joy and grace, into the air they sprang! Not only were the alws of the land abondoned, but the law of gravity and the laws of motion as well. They leaped like deer on the moon." P.g. 5 lines 149-153 Through all of this Harrison still wanted to show that perfect equality wasn't always the answer differnce was healthy and natural. Finally, Harrison was the Anti-Hero because of his actions he hadn't been perfect but he was still trying to do the right thing in his mind. From all the time he had been beaten Harrison was still considerant of what other people needed he wanted everyone to live a life of their own accord.FredericksWilliam2nd

I think that the strongest theme is that everyone being equal isn't the best. I think this because they try to make everyone equal and the ones that are better at some things have to were have packs that put nioses in your ear for you can't think more than others like on page 2 line 44-45"He began to think about his abnormal son who was now in jail, about harrison, but a twenty-one-gun salute in his head stopped that." This shows that to make everyone equal they have to go against making them eaual by making them here nioses when they think to much and car a gaint niose box to making them like everyone else. with everyone the same we can have are normal stuff because you have to apologize just for having a better vioce like on page 3 line 86-87 "And she had to apologize for her voice, which was a very unfair for a woman to use" This shows that everone equal isn't as good as we think and difference between everyone is something to be more proud of than to try to be equal with everyone else.gardnerelliot4th

The strongest theme in the Harrison Bergeron story is that forcing equality can cause conflcit and unhappiness. On page 1 it stated, "Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. The government felt that to make everybody equal they had to make all the people the same. No one stuck out. Living in a world where everyone is the same seems so dull and boring, no wonder the citizens were unhappy; I would rather call them prisoners though becuase it seems like they were living in a prison. Everyone has their habits, traits, strenthgs, or fears that make them unique. I personally love how in our world how everyone is different and the same. It makes like so much more intresting. A symbol that supports my theme is that they had over 200 amendemnts in their consitituion. They kept adding more to make their community in their eyes "more equal". Even though the government wanted everyone as equal as possible; I noticed that the people who worked in the government didn't have to wear handicaps like the civilians did.GoodingKat4th

I think that the strongest theme in the text is that you shouldn't let any person or thing distract you or get in your way of what you can really do and accomplish in your life. On page 1, the author says, "And George, while his intelligence waas way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in his ear. He was required by law to wear it at all times. It was tuned to a government transmitter. Every twenty seconds or so, the transmitter would send out some sharp noise to keep people like George from taking unfair advantage of their brains." Those little radio transmitter things are definately a big symbol in the story. THey are a big symbol in the story because they represent the distractions around us everday of our lives. Whether it is the sound of music, someone making a weird or annoying sound, or something even as small as someone flipping the page in their book, it all can be a distraction that takes us away from the things that we can accomplish in lifetime. But in the story it is a little radio in their ears and that makes them not be able to think very well and the loud noises the are played, they distract the people from thinking to hard about something because the government in the story is trying to make all of the people be all the same. And when Harrison is put in jail he doesn't have his little radio in his ear and you can obviosly tell that he is way different than the rest of the society that does have them. He is able to think and he can do way more things that the other people that have the radios in their ears. That is why I think that the strongest theme in the text is that you shouldn't ever let anyone or any thing distract you or get in your way of what you can really do and accomplish in your life. Resist it
I think the strongest theme is don't let someone or something resist you from doing something that you believe in. In this case, Harrison Bergeron decided to go on live TV and do something that is illegal like take your things off and he also interupted the show so he could make a speach. "Even as I stand here' he bellowed,' crippled, hobbled, sickened." I think that is some sad stuff. It also shows the crowd in the video and they were listening very well to his speach. Then he decided to dance which I don't understand. But he also had a bomb underneath the stage/building and had the deginator in his hands. Once he was done, he pressed the deginator when he saw the girl with the shotgun. They both died and the girl didn't know that they were still live on television. They thought they turned it off. Harrison did do some illegal stuff, but I think he did it for a reason. I don't know exactly why the girl shot him and the dancer, probably because both of them took off the stuff so they could dance. I think he believed that the restrants were not ok and you shouldn't have everybody be equal. That is why I think the strongest theme of Harrison Bergeron is don't let someone or something resist you from doing something that you believe in.

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is equality isn't always a good thing. On page 1 it says "April for instance, still drove people crazy by not being springtime. And it was that clammy month that the H-G men took George and Hazel Bergeron's fourteen-year-old son, Harrison, away." This proves equality isn't always a good thing, because they took a child away from their parents and locking him up, for being stronger and smarter than everyone else. On page 2 it says, ""Why don't you streatch out on the sofa, so's you can rest your handicap bag on the pillows, honeybunch." She was referring to the forty-seven pounds of birdshot in a canvas bag, which was padlocked around George's neck." The bag around his neck, symbolises equality and punishment, and shows how in this society, you get punished for being better than other people.GrinnellTanner2nd

The metal handicap was a punishment to the more inteligent. I think the strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is that being the same, incoheacent, simular, alike, fallowing and aserting is not how life should be lived. We can see a example of this on page 5, "And then, in a explosion of joy and grace, into the air they sprang. Not only were the laws of the land abandoned, but the law of gravity and the laws of motion as well." Once the ballerina took off her metal scraps and her handycap, she felt free, she flet specli, changed and almost loved. She left all those things because in that moment she was idffrent than everyone else, she was splecal. You can almost just feel her happness flying of the page. We can also see that she reprsents a symbo. In my eyes she reprsent freedom, change, being diffrent and the ballares in the corner reprsent simularity, being alike or even having no personality. And that one ballarena was once like them, but her chose to be difrrent and stand up to be who she is. And once she dose that she is filled wth joy and tranquility. She show the rest of the world my dancing, that you can be beand happy if you are diffrent and its nothing to be afraded of. We can also see this being aplied to real life. For instece, we can see people how are like other, who do what everyone else dose (the ballarenas in the cornner) and then we can see some people who are there own person, who are diffrent (the dancing ballarena). All in all this story isnt just a story there are may hidden meanings and syombls that we can take away from this story and aply to real life. HannanLaura5th

Nothing will always be perfect, The civilization they lived in the goverment signed laws that make everybody equal. You cant stop people from resisting like Harrison Bergeron, who was in prison for trying to ressist but failed, when he escaped the officals said " Harrison Bergeron, age fourteen, she said in grckle squawk, has justed escaped from jail where he was held on supicion of plotting to over throw the government." The strongest theme from Harison Bergeron is that total equality isn't always the best thing. In paragraph 40, it states "And it was easy to see that she was the strongest and most graceful of all the dancers, for her handicap bags were as big as those worn by two-hundred pound men." This shows that when certian people are stronger or more capable than others, they are handicaped so they can be more similar to everyone else. The strongest theme from the story and film "Harrison Bergeron" is stand up for yourself and your beliefs. As the story cites, "Even as I stand here" he bellowed" crippled, hobbled, sickened- I am a greater ruler then any man who ever lived! Now watch me become what I can become!" This line explains that this man is sick and tired of living a life of misery and suffering for something he couldnt control and didnt believe in, so he stood up against it proudly. The author also states, "That's all right-" Hazel said of the announcer," he tried, That's the big thing. He tried to do the best he could with what god gave him. He should get a nice raise for trying so hard." This evidence shows the readers how this woman just contradicted the plot of the story by saying its something god gave him and its okay when really everything god blessed other people in this world with gets hidden and stolen from them which is unfair and unjust, but that man also shows his speech impairment proudly. Lastly, as the story tells, "A moment passed, and then a ballerina arose, swaying like a willow. Harrison plucked the mental hanicap from her ear, snapped off her physical handicaps with marvelous delicacy. Last of all he removed her mask. She was blindingly beautiful." Any person can see that in these few sentences, this ballerina choose to voluntairly stand up and reveal herself even though many people were watching and probably looking down on her. She would most likely be sentenced to jail and have to pay a fine but freedom was something she believed in so she proudly proved a point. All in all, the biggest message of this story and film was you need to stand up for yourself and your beliefs, no matter what it may cost you. As long as your doing the right thing, its the best way to go. HauseGrace5th

The strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is don't let anybody hold you back from what your capable of. I thought that was the strongest theme because in the movie he broke out of prison to tell everybody why the world they are living in is not fair he also ripped of his weights and threw them to the ground to show the world that they are being held back of there full potential, he also said that there was a bomb because he wanted everybody to here what he was saying to tell them what there government has done to him and the world. Their society is messed up!!! The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is Restrictment, because the people who have higher intellegences are restricted from using their brain more than others, that is why they have a handicap. A quote directly from the text prooves this as a quote on page #3 "Nobody had ever born heavier handicaps" meaning that the smartner someone is, the less they are able to be who they truly are. a symbols supporting this theme is the padlocks, at the beginning of the story it is mentioned that george has led balls in this hadicap bag that add up to 47 pounds that he has to carry around with his neck.HeimSkyler6th

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is that people need rebellion against corrupt goverment. One of the things I notice from Harrison Bergeron was one the first sentce "THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else." I thought about that and It remend me about Anarchay everybody is equal to everybody else with power and soon it will be a game what is going to be whatever you want that is what it remened me of. I thought about athouther thing "Only, if I was Handicapper General, you know what I would do?" (Page 2 Sentece 5) I thought about North Korea the Handicapper General can do anything they want like Kim Jong-Un can in North Korea. On page 4 pargagth 4 it says "Harrison plucked the mental handicap from he ear, snapped off he phsical handicaps with marvelous delicacy. Last of all he removed her mask." The strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is to not let anyone else control you. "Harrison plucked the mental handicap from her ear, snapped off her phyisical handicaps with marvelous delicacy. Last of all he removed her mask." (page 5) This quote shows us that it's okay to be yourself and not let anyone dictate who you are. In the world today, people are always trying to fit in. If we just be ourselves, nobody can be mad and think we are fake and just want attention. A symbol in this story is the ballerinas dancing in sync. This symbolizes that if people follow eachother the world is boring and everyone expects to highly of you to be the same. When the 2 ballerinas fell because they heard the noise through their handicaps, everyone thought something was wrong and questioned it. We don't have to be in sync all the time, it's okay to go off and do your own thing.HookSophie2nd

On page three it states "... she must've been extraordinarily beautiful, because the mask she wore was hideous. and it was easy to see tht she was the strongest and most graceful of all dancers, for her handicap bags were as big as those worn by two-hundred pound men." This quote shows a theme of hiding who you really are, and or trying to fit in. This is becoming alot more common in our society because poeple want to fit in, and feel that they have to hide who they really are or act like someone they aren't. In the story Harrison Bergeron, all the dancers either feel that way, or are forced to look and be that way.indykiewiczdamian5th

The strongest theme from Harrison Begeron is realizing that the goverment is making everything about perfection. The goverment says that Harrison bergeron saying ¨ḧe should be regared as dangerous¨pg 3. They are putting out there being different is bad and everyone should be the same. We have said if everyone was the same the world would be boreing, the life they live is boreing to us but to them it life. They cant change if even if they wanted to or if they did they might die trying. The goverment is the problem in there life. They took away everything someone could do then the person next to them.ingliollie6th

I think the strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is that an act of peace can damage an army of evil. I believe this because on page 5 it says, "And then, in an explosion of joy and grace, into the air they sprang! Not only were the laws of the land abandoned, but the law of gravity and the laws of motion as well." This supports the theme because they are disreagarding the laws of the land that restrain them from being who they are in a peaceful way through dance. Which leads to the Handicapper General, Diana Moon Glampers, breaking her composure on page 6 as it says, " It was then that Daina Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barreled ten-gauge shotgun. She fiered twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hi the floor." This happened on live tv, the fact that the dance angered the General that much that she finaly snaped and murdered them, was a sign of how a peaceful act can damage a evil person with only a little dance. The dance symbolised peace not only because it was a graceful and a peaceful action but becase danceing represents hope, a way to show emotion through actions, and a defiance to the laws that the dictatorship inposed upon the people in the land. In conclusion I beilieve the strongest theme in the story was that an act of peace can hurt an evil army.JeskeLogan2nd

I think that the theme from Harrison Bergeron is everyone is perfect in their own ways, and no one should be able to control how perfect someone is. All the government wants in this story is for everyone and everything to be perfect, but they want everyone to be the exact same. In the first paragraph it says "nobody was smarter than anyone else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else." This quote shows how the government tries to tell people what perfect looks like. Later in the story when Harrison made his big apperance, it made people realize that being the same as everyone else does not make you perfect at all. I think that this connects to today by social standards. The perfect girl in many peoples eyes has a small hourglass shaped waist, straight hair, blue eyes, clear skin, ect. That is societys defonition of perfect, just like how in the story, the government told everyone that being perfect is being the same as everyone else. In conclusion, i think that the theme is everyone is perfect in their own ways and no one should be able to control that. JohnsonKate8th

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is It's not good to try to be the same as everyone else. On page 5 it says, "And then, in an explosion of joy and grace, into the air they sprang!" This quote shows how when they are dancing without all their handicaps on they are happy and feel free to be themselves. "You've been so tired lately-kind of wore out," said Hazel"(page 2). And in this quote it shows how tired he is having to deal with all the handicaps. He isn't happy and he's restricted from things. A symbol in the short story is the dancing to the music. This symbol is resembling how free you can be, how you can just flow with the music and relax, and it's a form of hope or freedom to just be yourself. This theme relates to our world by how so many people try to be the same, to be the picture perfect person that soceity wants you to be. But then there's some people who don't care and don't want to be the "perfect" person that soceity says you should be. And those people dress how they want, not whats trending. They act how they truly are and feel, they don't put up a fake personality to get people to like them. And they don't let others tell them how they should be or how they should act. Those people are like Harrison, they don't believe that everyone should be the same. KempfZynx6th

A symbol from this book is the handicaps. In is commutity they want eveything to be the same no matter what. The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is you need to be your self not what others want you to be. One qute that shows this is on page 5 it says "now said Harrison talking her hand shall we show the people the meaning of the world dance music he commanded. That shows the theme becase he wants people to be themself not what people want you to be. One synbol from the text is sash weights becase they are being heald down when you know you can be free. This relates to the real world becase people hide there true sellf and don't aways show there true potentule so they can fit in. The strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is Jealousy. In the story everybody was equal which would seem like a good thing but whe you think about it more it relates back to jealousy, on page 1 it says "The year was 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They wereequal every wich way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else." They had to be equal because otherwise they would be jealous if someone was prettier or smater than them. This happens in the real world people find themselves wishing they were like someone else and they had what someone else had, they were jealous of them. A symbol in the book were the masks that people wore so they could hide their beauty so that no one could be jealous of them. Kobilka Olivia 2nd

In Harrison Bergeron, is not a complicated story, it shows many themes and different symbols the connect to society today. The theme of Harrison Bergeron is stated on page 5, "Not only were the laws of the land abandoned, but the law of gravity and the laws of motion as well." This means, that the "normal" laws of this society were abandoned, the dictatorship or monarchy. Showing that the democracy is powerful and that people can have rights like today in the United States, they are allowed to express what they want. It is in the power of the people, not in the more fortunate like Diana Moon Glampers. I would also say that gravity means freedom, and as if a weight has been lifted off. This weight is like the pounds they carry to equalize people. Society was never made to be the same, and it shows that somehow being completely equal may cuase more problems. Some symbols also connect to society today. First, stereotypes, George or males are smarter than women and Hazel or women are dumb plsu women can not say stuff for themselves because it makes them rude. Another theme connects to many different governments today. The headphones or stero's put on the smarter people to "equalize" society. When it mainly symolizes that they are conceling and hiding the reality of the people's government, so they can not rise above. All in all, the main theme of Harrison Bergeron is standing up against governement and showing people the power they hold can completely change a government. KofalAddison2nd

I think the strongest theme of Harrison Bergeron is jealousy. This is because everyooen seems to have to be the same. That is because people are jealous of each other. In the text it syays, "They were burdened with sashweights and bags of birdshot, and their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel like something the cat drug in." People have to mask their beauty to keep equality. Instead of accepting people, they are trying to make everyone the same so that nobody gets jealous and there are less problems, like hate crimes, fights etc.LamiaAbbi2nd

The strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is equality isn't always equal. I think this because in the story we hear about how they want everyone to be equal and how they gave people that were smarter, good looking, or to physically powerful these handicaps and those handicaps were designed so that the average people felt more equal instead of the people that were "better" weren't making people that were average feel less equal. Despite these handicaps somehow they still weren't equal, and this is because these handicaps are preventing them from doing things that even the average people can do, which if you ask me doesn't sound equal. Especially when the handicaps were there to make the "better" people more average. So there was a symbol that I noticed and that symbol is a mask. I think that a mask could mean so many different things, but I believe it to mean that the government has something to hide, whether that be that they don't want the "better" people to find out that they aren't all that equal after all, because they are handicaped which makes it harder for them to go through life. Finally I have a quote that was on page 2 "I could think, if it was just chimes." This quote shows that the handicaps are making him struggle to think and the purpose of the handicaps is to equalize everyone and instead it is making the average people more powerful, because they can move freely and think clearly.LarsonAustin8th

The theme is you shouldn't be able to take away from induviduals creative advanments in the world for the sake of equality because the people your taking away from could lead to technoligical advancements, and importnat world changes. On pg 1it says, " Hazel had a perfectly average intelligence, which meant she couldn't think about anything except in short bursts. And George, while his inteligence was way above normal, had a little handicap radio in his ear. He was requried by law to wear it at all times. It was tuned to a government transmitter. Every twenty seconds or so, the transmitter would send out some sharp nosie to keep people like george from taking unfair advantage of their brains". This qoute from the story shows that George can't show off or use his unquie intelligence in the world. The ear piece symbolises that there handicaping them in away by hindering there intelligence and superiroity on people. On pg 6 it says, "It was Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barrel ten-guage shotgun. She fired twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hit the foor". Geroge and Hazel the parents of Harrison just saw there son die on Tv and after it happened. On pg 6 it says, "I forget" they just forgot about there son dying and thats a big thing and the govenment shoudn't be able to take that away from them. LarsonMatyas 8th

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is that you can't try to make everyone the same, there has to be diversity and to always accept people for who they are not bash them or try and take away things that they are strong in. This is proved when they put masks on beautiful women, make smart people forget stuff, put weights on people, and make them talk differently. On page 1 it says, "Every twenty secons or so, the transmitter would send out some sharp noise to keep people like George from taking unfair advantage of their brains." This proves that they don't want people to be different, this is shown many times throughout the story as well. This relates to the real world when people who are a different race, sexuality, or gender are made fun of or even killed becuase they aren't exactly like everyone else. At the end of the book when the leader people shoot and kill Harrison, a couple seconds later George gets the sound of gunshots in his ears, so maybe everytime he hears a noise that causes him to forget whatever he was just thinking about, it's real noises. If people are constatly going against the government, it proves that no matter how hard you try, people are never going to be the same. There always needs to be diversity. On page 6 it says, "There was the sound of a rivetting gun in his head." LarsonPyper5th

The theme of the story is comparing yourself to others may be bad but not being able to compare yourself is worse. On page 3 and line 17.. "She must have been extraordinarily beautiful, because the mask she worse was hideous. And it was easy to see that she was the strongest and most graceful of all the dancers, for her handicap bags were as big as those worn by two-hundred pound men." this quote explains a lot about the society in the story, it is a mess. They think this is better than showing the truth in people, if anything being able to compare yourself with people makes you stronger. Some people in this story don''t need handicaps because they are already stupid, it is because of the influence off of everyone acting disabled. When everyone is wearing handicaps and a mask the only thing it fixes is the problem of everyone competing to be better than everyone. But if everyone is stupid then everything would stop where it is and everything would go down. the symbol is the handicaps and how they affect everyone in s horrible way.LepineKennedy4th

The strongest theme in the short storie and film Harrsion Bergeron is that you cant hold people from being them and bringing them down to the level of others below them. The first thing that explains my thinking is on page # 1 the storie explains this system by saying "Hazel had a perfectly adverege inteligents, which ment she couldn't think aboutanything exept in short bursts. And george, while his intelligents was way above normal, had a little metal handicap radio in his ear. he was required by law to wear at all times. it was tuned to a goverment transmiter. Every twenty seconds or so, the transmiter would send out some sharp noise to keep people like george from taking unfair advntages of their brains." that is huge because these handicaps are the reason everyone is equal but keeps people from advancment and any plans to rebel protest or really think about anyone. the second reason i beveive this is because they cant really have any emotian because on page #2 the text states " Right said george. he began to think glimmeringly about his abnormal son who was now in jail, about Harrison, but a twenty -one-gun salute in his head stopped that." if i was george and hazel i would start crying about my son who was wrongfully imprisoned but they cant really feel anything in 20 second incroments. anger sadness and other things at least in our world cause a lot of stupid and easilly avoidably problems but its emotion that drives us to change and they dont have that. lastly on page # 6 the author writes that " It was diana moon glampers the handcaper general , came into the studio with a double barreled ten guage shotgun. she fired twice, and the Emporer and Emporess were dead before they hit the floor." this is a real problem because it was a violant over reaction to a dance with a convict that had been torured instead of bringing him back to jail. this remines me of the minnesota riots last summer-fall because it was just crazy and not at all ok. she also did this on live tv. and to finish the stories says " You been crying He said to hazel yup she said what about? he said i forget she said something real sad on the television." crazy that nobody will remember this incident past 20 seconds and the goverment can pretty much continue to elimanate threats to the system. thats why i choose the theme of not taking away peoples abititys to make the world perfect because the world will never be perfect but we can make the best of it.lethblake4th

the strongest theme for harrison bergeron would probably be equality, because total equality is not an idea worth striving for. "nobody was smarter then anybody else. nobody was better looking then anubody else. nobody was quicker or stronger then anybody else." (page 1 paragraph 1). i feel like this quote fits the theme best because right then theyre all considered "equal" but do they really feel like that on the inside? just like in the real world, equality is still an issue. weather its gender equality or even racism. everyone is still a person and has their rights even though we dont all feel the same on the inside. this is why i think equality is the best theme for Harrison Bergeron.loomismallie2nd

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron was, equality isnt a perfection. why i say this is because in this book its starts off on page one with simply someone explaining " everybody was finnaly equal, they werent equal before gos and the law they weree equal every which way, nobody was smarter than anbody else nobody was better looking that anybody else, no one stronger or quicker that anyone else" the major problem is that everyone is the same, in this book it shows that the people arent allowed to show who they really were born to be, the government hides and takes it away, eqaulity has good and bad benifits, the good benefits are only to just say that everything is equal and the same and that everything would be organized, there would be less fights, anything that you can imagine thats bad would problably dissapear, but not exactly every thing, the bad benifits are that there will always be some people who are agaisnt it, more of the reason is that your not aloud to do what you want to do. you can't have your own greatest achivements or goals, nothing that can make you show how you are special. being different is better than being equal because your diferences show who you are as a human. this can be related to the real world is because there are many dislikes and likes in this world that make it special, for example the LGTBQ+ their known for the people who they love identify and ect. Many people hate on them because its not "normal" to have a man like a man or have a women like or women of even such a trans man. this group of people have struggled by opeing up to the world because of somthing simple as their sexuality or who they identify as. But also this group of people are also honnored by their there differences they love to show to people to show them that its alright to not live up to the expectations or people and to be who you want to be so that you can show who you are . This is what i believe the theme of Harrison bergeron.Moua Peyton5th

The theme of Harrison Bergeron is that people should be able to have there own actions and personalitys. In Harrison Bergeron I think that it is important that people shold be able to have there own minds and personalitys because the world around us is beatiful andthriving because no one is the same sure some people have similarites but there not the same exact person. In the sotry Harrison Bergeron on page 1 it says "seeing a free ad graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel like something the cat drug in." to me this shows you how much people in the story think that everyone should be no prettier than everybody else and that everyone should be treated as they look the same when in the real world it is important that people look different because it sepoerates us in good ways and bad ways but that makes us who we are today. Another thing that the story Harrison Bergeron mentioned on page 3 was " shall we show these people the meaning of the word dance? Music?." truly shows me how the people were so undercontrol of thinking they needed to act the same and act the same no one knew what it felt like to truly feel happiness and be able to be yourself in different wasy for example dancing. These lines in the story showed me how much we need our differences, and personalitys in this world to define who we are and define the world arouns us.NusbaumCharli6th

The strongest them in Harrison Bergeron is that equality comes at a cost. "They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else."(page 1). This shows that equality comes at a cost becuase everyone runs at the same speed is the same strength physically. They are all even the same level of beauty and intelligence. Nobody has the ability to solve anything different from anybody else. Nobdy is unique and special in their own way. A symbol that supports the theme could be the handicaps the people wear. This supports the theme becuase if you are a smarter person you have to wear a handicap in their ear so that every twenty seconds a loud noise would ring and make them lose their train of thought. This way they couldn't be smarter than anyone else. The stronger people have to wear a handicap around their neck. This prevents them from being stronger or quicker than anyone else. This relates to the real world because people in the past and society today have tried to make people equal and have the same rights, but people end up getting killed or injured. For example, the Civil War took place to try and give African American's the same rights as white men and women, which eventually happened, but at the cost of 625,000 peoples deaths. Another example, in more recent history could be Afghanistan. They started by protesting against their government, then it turned to full on war. The people, that weren't rich, didn't want to be treated like they were nothing and didn't matter anymore. The cost was their country went to war and is now divided. This is why the strongest them in Harrison Bergeron is that equality comes at a cost, wether it be your intelligence, beauty, quickness, and anything that makes you unique. PeissigKaitlyn 6th

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is that every person has their own strengths in their own way. Equality isn't always something to strive for. Everyone has their own strengths in society. It may be that you're extremely intelligent or that you're an amazing athlete. In the third paragraph of the begininng of the story it states that George had an intelligence way above normal but that he has a little mental handicap radio that he is required to wear at all times. The story also begins to mention the ballerinas in which they are actually mentioned a lot throughout the story. "They weren't really very good-no better than anybody else would have been, anyway. They were burdened with sashweights and bags of birdshot, and their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture or pretty face, would feel like something the cat drug in" (24-26) All of this is simply because the govenrment decided to make everyone equal. The equality that the government puts on the characters in the story is heavy. When mentioning heavy I refer to how the characters have ear radios to distract their train of thought or birdshot bags to weigh them down. I think that the handicaps symbolize the negativity in society. How negativity weighs you down to belittle you; to take out competition in society. Towards the end of the story although Harrison is mentioned as being a threat, he can actualy be characterized as the hero. Harrion's true intention was simply to make everyone realize how great society can be by showing the dancing skills of the ballerina and performing a dance in front of everyone to see. Harrison understood that evreryone is capable of being great in their own way and the strive for constant equality wasn't the way to go. Overall, I think that strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is that every person has their own strengths in their own way and that equality isn't always something to strive for.PerezLilyana6th

I think the strongest theme is not everyone is like everyone else. According to the text on page one it talks about how people were equal. That, "they were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. No body was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than everybody else." This was all due to someone called the Handicapper General. This was like the president to the united states. She was the one in charge. Everyone listened to her. So when she said you can't do something you wouldn't. If she said that you have to do this every day you would do it. And if you were different, you had to change. So if you were beautiful you had to wear a mask and if you were a stronger than you had to wear weights. And if you might have been a little smarter and think beyond what any other person was thinking, than you had to wear a ear peice that would go off everyone 20 seconds. This is very important because once you look into in more you see that a boy named Harrison would stand up to these rules and the consequencses that came with that. On page 3 and 4 is states, : Nobody had ever born haevier handicaps. He (Harrison) had outgrown hindrances faster than the H-G men could think them up. Insteatd of a little ear radion for a mental handicap, he wore a tremendous pair of earphones, and spectacles with thick wavy lenses... Harrison looked like a walking junkyard." Something was so wrong with being different that he had to completly change what he looks like to be just like eveyone else. Later in the story on page 4 he gets on stage that is being broadcasted to eveyone on the tv's and he, "... tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue paper, tor straps guaranteed to support five thousand pounds. Harrison's scrap-iron crashed to the floor." He's not done yet. He askes for a wonen to stand up and do the same thing with him. Finally it says on page 5 and 6 a ballerina came up and, "Harrison plucked the mental handicap for her ear, snapped off her phusical handicaps with marcelous delicacy. Last of all he removed her mask. She was blindingly beatiful." They start swaying to the song and lifelessly dancing in each others arms as if no one was around. They were breaking the laws but it didin't matter becuase they were actually smiling had enjoying this freedom they have never expereinced. Then, they kissed. It was then when the, "Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barreled ten-gauge shotgun. She fired twice, and the Emperor (Harrison) and the Empress (Ballerina) were dead before they hit the floor." The General could not stand the rebelion that she shot and killed both people. And what stands out to me is the word handicap. Normally when you think of a symbol it will be an object but in this case I really believe it is this word. I think this way because wthen your normally think of this word you think of something that is out of someones control in a way that causes them to act differently than someone else. They use it in the way to stop with rebelion. "Oh you can't rebel you have to wear this ear peice to stop you from thinking differently." It really hurts you to think that in such a life people think this is right. All in all, the theme in this story is not everyone is like everyone else.PickerignAlayna6th

The strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is don't be envious of other people. On page three Hazel thought to herself "She must have been extrordinarily beautiful, because the mask she wore was hideous." This connects to the theme of not being envious of others because every person was supposed to look like the others because in their society, everyone had to be equal with intelligence, stregth, speed, and looks. In the book they did this because they wanted to make sure no one was jelous or better than someone else. A symbol that came up a few times in the story was a mental hanndicap radio. This was to distract more intelligent people every twenty seconds by sounding a sharp noise into their ear. The noise would then distract the person from what they were doing so they wouldn't be as intelligent. They would do this because they once again did not want anyone smarter that someone else. In our world today, teens are constantly comparing themselves to other teens. Whether that is being skinner, prettier, or more popular. If people were less envious of others, we could live happier not wishing we were always looking this way or feeling that way. The Harrison Bergon story helped to show us how it's okay to be different and how boring it would be if we all were equally perfect. PoseyTorri8th

The stongest theme for Harrisons Bergeron is not everyone should be equal. Everyone is different and it should stay that way. This story shows that mankind tried to make everyone equal by giving them handicaps (imperfectoins). It shows that it doesnt really work multiple times in the story. For example, the text states on line 29-31 on page 1, "George winced. So did two out of the eight ballerinas. Hazel saw him wince. Having no mental handicap herself, she had to ask George what the latest sound had been." This shows that Hazel, and most of the ballerinas didn't have a mental handicap, proving not everyone is equal. People have different personalities and character traits, and the handicaps get rid of certain ones that certain people have, so if everyone was equal everyone would have the amount and kind of handicaps. In conclusion, the strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is that not eveyrone should be equal. ReetzGavin5th

Never rebel against the country is the strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron. "It was then that Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barreled ten-gauge. She fired twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hit the floor. This proves that if you try to rebel against your country, you will more than likely either get, arrested or possibly killed (if it was in any other country.) A solid symbol would be a shotgun. A shotgun could be gun rights or something related to hunting or in this case, death. This story can probably relate to the Jan. 6th riots at the capital. The people were technically rebelling against the country but soon after it would come back and bite some people because, someone got killed and a lot of people got arrested for their actions.RetherfordRiley8th

Advancements/ getting better at things is important. Advacement/getting better didn't happen in that world people thought the ballarenas were good with the handicaps but then harrison Got up on stage without the handicaps and was able to keep up just fine on page, 5 line, 15. This is shown again when The narrator was telling the story from the mans point of veiw and the man was awed when he said "In and explosion of grace." On page, 5 line, 13 this shows they are set back one life things. That is why it is important to have Advancements/getting better.RoshellTyler8th

In this book or short story I think the theme is dont force things that arent meant to be. In the story it opens up with it say, "The year was 2081, and everyone was finally equal. They r wernt only equal before god and law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else". They are forcing people to be equal, even though its all not entirly true. George cant think about one thing for to long. The ballarines all of masks on so they dont feel bad about their looks. For like a symbol the news kept coming on saying Harrison broke out of jail. The guy kept stuttering but it didnt seem like a nervous stutter. It shows that everyone has fear in harrison. Bu then when he comes up on stage he has handicap weight on which is making it so he cant do certain things. This is why I think the theme of the story, Harrison Bererson is dont force things that arent meant to be. It also says, "And to offset his good looks, the H-G men required that he wear at all times a red rubber ball for a nose, keep his eyebrows shaved off, and cover his even white teeth with black caps at snaggle-tooth random.rossColin6th

The strongest theme of from Harrison Bergeron is that equality comes at the cost of beauty of being differnet. A symbol from the story is the chains pulling everyone down to make it fair to the lowest extent. The government put the chains on everyone to show equality, but it just made everyone miserable including Harrison. A quote on page one that shows that equality comes at a cost is, "He tried to think a little about the ballerinas...They were burdened with sashweights and bags of birdshot, and their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel like something a cat drug in. George was toying with the vague notion that maybe dancers shouldn't be handicapped. But he didn't get very far with it before another noise in his ear radio scattered his thoughts." This supprts that equality comes at a cost bevcuase it shows how even something that is meant to be beautiful can not be pretty without being put down and punished. SabelkoMadilyn6th

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is that being different isn't always a bad thing. In the story everyone was the same. For example, on page 1 it states that "Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else." Everyone in this story is the same but Harrison Bergeron. Harrison Bergeron looked different than everyone else he also wore heavier handicaps and he was known as a prisoner. When Harrison escaped prison and was shown on live TV he was proving a point. He wanted everyone to hear what he had to say. He took off the ballerina's mask to show her beauty and he took off both of their handicaps to prove that the government has no power over them. The Handicapper General gives everyone handicaps so that they don't take too much power over themselves, like their being controled. Harrison showed that he has power over himself when he took them off. Harrison was also showing that he has multiple skills like dancing, or being athletic. In todays world everyone tries to be like one another and many people don't like being different. Harrison proved that it's okay to be different which is a big message that everyone should take in. In todays world there is beauty standards that everyone wants to meet, there is people that have a better athletic ability which can make it seem like their supirior to everyone else, and there is many other differences between people in our world. That is why being different is okay, is a good message that people should listen to and that being different isn't always a bad thing is a good theme to go with this story. SalazarJayda8th

I think that the theme of Harrison Bergeron is it's not always best to be equal. On page 1 is says that "Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else." meaning that everyone no matter what had to be equal so if one person was not really smart everyone was not really smart if someone was really bad at sports everyone was really bad at sports so think about it there would be no sports because everyone would not be good at sports and no anything if people are bad at it instead of leting people learn from thier mistakes and get better. A symbol of that it is not always best to be equal is the handicaps that people have to have every hour of the day this makes people not able to think like the headphones or not able to work as well with whights or people not really know what you look like because you look so good you have to wear a mask think about it if you were really good at running and you can run really rast would you want to then have to wear heavy whights around all day just so people don't feel angry that you are faster than them.scampaiden2nd

It's important to re bel when an authority figure tries to take away your indivuality. As cited on page 1 saying "All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceaseing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General." This supports my claim because they have a Handicapper General to Handicap who are better than the average population. A symbol from the text is when Harrison Bergeron takes off his handicaps, this supports my claim because him taking off his handicaps are a act off defience. SchanzZak6th

The strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is probibly Stand up for what you think is right even though it goes against the majority. Harrison Bergeron had so many hadicaps because the contry wanted samenesss he carried 300 pounds everywhere he whent had his eyebrows shaven and so much more. So when they put him in jail they should have realised the burden it must have been for him. So when he ran into the dance recitel it was no suprise he stood up for his thoughts and yes he did take it a little on the extreme side but that man is extreme. but on pg 4 "Even as I stand here" he Bellowed, "Crippled, Hobbled, Sickened - I am a greater ruler than any man who ever lived! Now watch me become what I can become!" This statedment showed that he beleves the government isnt doing what they should and they should take him into ruling the place. But since the governtment knew how he acted they tryed to make him a clown by making him wear a red nose. In conclusion the strongest theme for the text is stand up for what you think even though it goes against the majority.ShemonLilly2nd

The theme to Harrison Bergergon you dont have to submit to power and you dont have to be in the shadows for example on page 4 lines 26 and 27 it says " 'Even as I stand here' he bellowed, 'crippled, hobbled, sickened - I am a greater ruler than any man who ever lived! Now watch me become what I can become!' " That shows that even though you may be sick or weak you can still have power. The masks and weights that almost everybody has, symbolize the repression that those people have to go through.shipmanasher2nd

A quote from the story that supports my claim is "Even as I stand here he bellowed, crippled, hobbled, sickened - I am a greater ruler than any man who ever lived! The strongest theme from Harisom Bergeron is being unified will make us be brain washed. In the Short story Hazel talks about how If she was the handicapper genreal she would just make the Mental handicapper just Be noises of chimes on Sunday. Her husband then says "I could think if it was just chimes." (pg 2). Hazel then goes on to say " Well-Maybe make 'em real loud,' said Hazel. 'I think I would make a good handicapper general." (pg 2). This means that Hazel and her husband think that it is normal to not be able to think all the way through there thought process just becuase they are a little smarter then you. The nosies going off in there head are normal to them when in our world today that would make our country very mad at our goverment. The symbol of the ballarina also supports my theme becuase the ballarina symbolizes how much better they could be without the handicap on them. Once the ballarinas got there handdi cappers off they were much more free to move. For example in the story it says that they could leap up 30 feet in the air. this shows that they were way better without the handdicappers that were normal at the time.SimmerSamantha6th

Things and people should not be the same. A quote, "They were equal every which way. Nobody was smater than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was was stronger or quicker than anybody else." (page 1) They all have to be the same, so there is no compitition. A symbol from the text is the handicap radios. In the text the handicap radios send out a sharp noise to cancel their thoughts. So people don't take unfair advantages of their brain. In real life, handicaps are for people with disabilitys, but in the text, they are for people that are to smart, to strong, to fast, or to beautiful.SnegoskyNolan8th

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is let no one stop you from doing what you love. This is the strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron because on pg 5, it states, "'I shall now select my Emperess!' ... A momeny passed, and then a ballerina arose, swaying like a willow. Harrison plucked the metal handicap from her ear, snapped off her physical handicaps with marvelous delicacy. Last of all he removed her mask. ... 'Now-' ... 'shall we show the people the meaning of the word dance?' ... And then, in an explosion of joy and grace, into the air they sprang!" This shows the theme of let no one stop you from doing what you love because Harrison does something that has never even been thought of in society and does it flawlessly. He shows the world what he and others are capable of, even with the thought that he could die. A symbol in the text that shows the theme let no one stop you from doing what you love is the thrown off handicaps from Harrison on pg 4. This shows the theme let no one stop you from doing what you love because people put those chains and weights on him to keep him from being at his true potential. Even with all of those heavy weights, he managed to break them off with little struggle and showed everyone what he was totally capable of. He showed people that even though he is strong and tough, he had the ability to be loving and gentle. This theme can be applied to the real world because often times, people want to change others to be how they want them. Whether it is a parent to a child, teacher to a student, toxic friend to innocent person. People want things to be in their control, to be at their mercy, to be what they want. They want to make a perfect world for themselves, and forget that other people have lives and feelings as well. In conclusion, the strongest theme in the short story Harrison Bergeron is let no one stop you from doing what you love because of the dance, the weights, and the rebellion from Harrison Bergeron. The strongest theme in the story Harrison Bergeron is never be afraid to show your true colors. Everyone is different and unique. It says on page 1, They were all equal n every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Noboy was stronger or quicker than anybody else". When you put people in a world where everyone is the exact same you never get any excitment or learn soemthing new about anybody. If our world was like this we wouldn't have track, cross country, wrestling and more because everyone is the exact same so no one will ever win. Today some people still try to be like others. I see it in schools when peopel like to dress like other students or do things other students do becuase they look nicer or they get more attention. This book is a great example of what the wold could be like if everyone was the exact same. Everyone is different and embracng your differences is probably the best thing anyone could do.SpataroVanessa2nd

Not to force equality into the world in a way that is unfair for some of it. Page 3 line.
"She must have been extraordinarily beautiful because the mask she wore was hideous." I feel that shows the theme because just because she was born beautiful should notmean that she has to be forced to look different. A symcbol from the text is the handycaps. They are there to force equality and make it so that they stupe down and stay at the lowerst level. It goes back to my theme because of what George said on page 2. "Two years in prison and two thousand dollar fine for every ball I take out." So this is why all of this backs up my theme and makes it more convinsing.

i think the strongest theme in this story is jelousy. because all of the people are forced to be the same and look the same so everyone feels equal and no one is insicure becasue they have no differences. "they where equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody ese. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else."(pg 1) this connects to my chosen theme because it show how there is absolutly no difference in anybody in the whole sociaty and im assuming that because someone in power was jelous and ruined life for everybody else so they could feel better about themselves knowing that no one was better than them. A symbol is the weighted bags they have to wear this is like the weight of there life puling them down to be equal so no one can be great or sucseed.SummersKatie 2nd

The strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is him riping off all of his handiecapers to show that he is in power and is the strongest out of anyone and shows that no one can stop him from not being equal to everyone else and wanting to be in power of everyone else. The strongest evidence is when Harrison said "I am the Emperor." Also he said "everybody must do what I say at once." Then the studio shook. On Page 4. "Harrison tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue paper, tore straps guaranteed to support five thousand pounds." Page 4. That quete showed that he can do anything and the Handiecaper general can't stop him from being the strongest person. Also it represents that he can do anything and he will never be like everyone else. One of the symbol's that real stood out to me was when Harrison asked for a balarina to dance with. When they danced they almost touched the cieling of the building which symbolised to me that he was defing gravity and was almost rising to power and wasn't scared to show everyone else. This also conects to the real world by showing that you can stand out and don't have to follow others and have to be equal. But when Harrison dies because he was standing out can connect to the real world because when you stand out from everyone else they might want to drag you down so you aren't better then them and they want to always be on the top.SwensonBrock8th

The strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is freedom. Harrison had resisted power for a long time, disobeying the Handicapper General and her men, even though they were effectively the most powerful people in America. A quote from Harrison reads, "'Now watch me become what I can become!' Harrison tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue paper, tore straps guaranteed to support five thousand pounds." This is important because he tore his straps off. The things that were limiting his capabilities were removed, allowing his freedom. To further support this, I think that the restraints symbolize restriction. By removing the restriction, Harrison acheived freedom, however short lived. In the real world, equality is something a lot of people strive for. However, this story showed what true equality would look like. A world like that would be bland; no true hardships. No uniqueness. It removes everything that makes people special. And sometimes, not having a fair fight is fun. It allows you to test your limits. And push them even further. That is why I beleive the strongest theme in Harrison Bergeron is feedom.ToskeMitchell2nd

I'm quite sure that the strongerst theme in Harrison Bergron is Equality VS Uniuqeness. This is clearly shown on page 5 where the ballerina's & musicians are released from their handicaps & once they are they play their absolute best & make it one of the best preformences in years. This is because of their talent that they are able to make the preformence jawdropping. But because of their talent they surpass other's, & in this society everyone is equal... but at what cost.TracyNorris4th

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is: Equality does not need to be held up to perfection. The quote on page 1 says, "Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else." that quote there prove my claim because when it was describing that they were all like on a even playing field, it is saying that they all have the same worth... which is true according to the Holy Bible. I'm not a great person on politics and government but what I think the government should've done is let people do their own job and make the money they make, because if the government was being very strict with the regulations then there would be no such thing as "Status." Status is a word that describes where somebody is on the scale of how succesful you are compared to the government. In the story of Harrison Bergeron, the status of every person is all the same spot on the scale... and I think that the United states government is becoming a little bit like this story where the government is taking too much control. In the book when Harrison takes the mask off of the ballerina, I think that that symbolizes a sense of freedom for everybody. Now if there was some true Irony between this story and current day it would be extremely Ironic if something that takes place in modern day that symbolizes freedom as well. These are all of my thoughts and predictions on the book Harrison Bergeron and modern day society.UnderdahlBraden8th

I think the stongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is that although socity has a image of how you should dress, act, and belive you shouldnt change yourself or change who you want to be to fit their needs or image. For example on page four and five is describes "Harrison thrusts his thumbs under the bar of the padlock that secured his head harness. The bar snapped like celery. Harrison smashed his headphones and spectacles aginst the wall. He flung away his rubber-ball nose, receal a man that would have awed Thor, the god of thunder." To me this shows that many people can tell you who you are/"want" to be and you could agree with that, be misurable, feel like you have weights on your shoulder holding you down from who you are supposed to be and you could feel like you have like your true self/personality is like a secret that you can never show or tell anybody about becuase you were told to be ashamed of it. Or you could not go with the needs of society and feel truely connected to yourself and feel like you have nothing to hide/be ashamed of.WaltzElla6th

The strongest theme from Harrison Bergeron is that you can still be graceful, no matter what people say. On page 5, the text states: "Not only were the laws of the land abandoned, but the law of gravity and the laws of motion as well." This quote explains how even in the real world, you are your own person, and you don't have to be the same as everyone else, even if the authority of a shotgun, or even just a friend, is trying to tell you otherwise. Harrison realized how different he was, so he embraced that difference and became who he wanted to be. WilsonCarter5th

The strongest theme from the story harrison Bergeron was you can always try your best to make everyone the same or equal but no matter how hard you try we are never going to have full equaltiy for all people in the world. In the story the goverment " They weren't really very good-no better then anybody else would have been anyway. They were burdened with sashweights and bags of birdshot, and their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing free and graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel like somthing the cat drug in." page 1. This quote is showing that the goverment trys way to hard to make everyone feel the same or equal. They are so desprate that they put masks on the dancers faces so that way no one watching on the TV would feel like they looked ugly compared to the dancers they saw on stage. The masks on the dancers faces were a symbol of the uinqiness that makes us all different and that mask is there to make all people equal but, when in the end the dancer takes it off she is showing that it's still there and no rule is going to change that. In todays world we all tend to compare ourselfs with one anothe that in the end hurts us and makes us feel less then. That can be a good thing though becuase it makes you learn to love yourself even more then you would if we were all the same. Witthoft Hannah5th

i think the theme of harrison bergeron is if you are intelligent or stronger or faster then a "normal" person you might have some things weighing you down or preventing you from success and you have to rip thoes weights off by finding a solution to the problem or just trying to get over it page 4 "harrison tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue paper" i think the weights could represent something that happened in you life thats weighing you down and your potential like a break up for family issues. but just as harrison did you have to rip them off and i guess "dance" freely and use your potential to the fullest WolowiczOliver 2nd

i think one of the best themes of harrison bergeron is try not to be the same and be yourself. pg 5 ¨play your best¨ he told them, ¨and ill make you barons and dukes and earls¨ ... the music played and it was much improved. this shows how when they were free and felt free the were so much better and played better. saying he was going to make them barons and dukes was like a bribe and i think its like the real world how we may want somthing but we were demanded to do something for it. this is why i think the best theme is be youself.zimdahl26zac5th
