At First level the horse should demonstrate the ability to show lengthening of stride at trot and canter coming from an increase of power and thrust from the hind legs. While this horse appears very capable, he is not carrying himself in a powerful way even in the working gaits so the lengthen gaits are absent. Inaccurate riding- 1/2 circle placement, etc, subtract at least 1/2 point further lowering the score. Once rider tapsinto the horse's hind legs and creates impulsion and ground cover and rides movements where they are supposed to be, scores will improve.
