*GENERAL ELECTION NOTE*
Since NYC is a Democrat city, the primary is where many seats are won or lost. This leads to a guide filled with a lot of candidates running unopposed. Because of this, you can think of the guide as a "get-to-know" your rep and see where we need progressive candidates to run in the future. We tried to give a little snippet about each candidate along with their website and social media accounts (if available), so you can find out about them. That being said, there are a few things to look out for in this guide:

🔹 VOTE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY—WFP must garner at least 130,000 votes or 2 percent of the total vote—whichever is higher—on its party line for the presidential election in November, or it will lose its automatic ballot line in New York. (NYT) VOTE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY for BIDEN/HARRIS (& wherever possible) to help keep broader political representation in NY.
🔹 Assembly District 76 Rebecca Seawright sued to have her opponant kicked off the ballot, Patrick Bobilin—Dirty Dem politics. He was able to get back on temporarily, but was removed last minute.
🔹 City Council District 37 is interim until the 2021 City-wide election. Darma Diaz was able to use the courts to have her opponants kicked off the ballot. Vote Sandy Nurse in 2021!
🔹 Judges - We don't have much choice for Civil Court Judges and Supreme Court Justices (Judicial Delegates and the nominating convention is wild!), so we tried to give as much info and where there are choices we've got you!

The Soft Power Voter Guide is based on whether candidates met, touched on, or exceeded the following criteria*:

GREEN NEW DEAL - Clean energy, job development, public banking and utilities
CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM - #Repeal50a, #Halt Solitary, #DefundTheNYPD, Repeal #WalkingWhileTransBan
PEOPLE POWERED CAMPAIGN - NO Real Estate $$, NO Cop $$, NO Corporate $$
SUPPORTS THE ARTS - This NYC, the culture capitol
HOUSING JUSTICE - Advocates for affordable and/or guaranteed housing, fund NYCHA, #CancelRent, #EvictionMoratorium
MEDICARE FOR ALL - NYC Health, Public Option
EQUAL RIGHTS - #BLACKLIVESMATTER, Protecting LGTBQIA+, BIPOC, and women’s reproductive rights
LIVEABLE STREETS - Equitable public transit, public space, bike lanes, pedestrian walkways
#BLACKLIVESMATTER

*******

*Some candidates solely tow the party line and are labeled "Moderate" or "Centrist" Democrats. Others that fail to do even that are called out or left off. These are the districts where we need new progressive leadership.
