flubbernuggetBe Prepared (Lion King) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1k2m_E3BXBxZd75H0n4iqxn_Pt48ksdyi/view?usp=sharingOh wow, that "pay attention" was excellent. The growling! Damn, I did not know you had that in you! You are slipping pitch a bit on these quieter parts. The "a" on "sensational." This song requires a certain amount of camp, and you're nailing it. Yeah, I feel like you're holding a back a bit on the quieter/less energetic parts and then really going all-in on the louder parts. Those are the really fun parts, to be sure, but if you work on nailing and supporting the quieter parts too it adds a lot to the song. But really, jeez, the way you just dived into this one was great. You make one killer Scar. You sell the aggression and menace of this song so well, and I just love the parts where you really go ham and growl the lines almost ferally. Your take on the character is so cool and scary. Although I feel like this song shows off your acting much more than singing, aside from a couple of parts that went off the melody (e.g., "at last when I'm given my dues"), your singing was solid, particularly the sustains on "be prepared". Overall, I really like most of the choices you made with this version, and it's just a really good pick for your style (even if it turned out not to be a very original pick 🤣)Okay so I want to start with a positive. When you hit those big note "Be Prepared"'s I had goosebumps all up and down my body. You know how to blow me away with those big notes maybe better than anyone who has ever been in MS Idol. Incredible power behind that voice of yours. The biggest critique I had is that in the 2nd verse it felt like you ran out of steam. I'm not sure if you ran out of breath or you were trying to "sing speak" as is common in more theatrical performances like this. In addition in the 1st chorus when you sang "dues" it went a little flat. Really aside from those things, this was a near pitch perfect performance. I have to compare this to the theatricality of the other two Be Prepared's. I think you nailed the more powerful side of Scar, however I think the other two singers nailed the more devious nature of Scar. Overall? You should be very pleased with this performance as maybe having been a little more "sneaky" so to speak and a little more theatrical you would have likely gotten a perfect score from me. It's still an incredible performance and again you were probably the only singer to give me goosebumps this week.8.833

Haschel CedricsonFriend Like Me (Aladdin) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cJjvym-3Zaicwoe89Joxorlx011xleFg/view?usp=sharingHo boy, what a selection. You're painting this song's wandering melody in such an awesome way. You're making me feel nostalgia, Haschel. Nice little touches to go with the lyrics, like whispering during "whisper in my ear." I guess I feel like you could lean a little more into the silly aspects of this song...they're not absent, but this is one of those songs where you can really dive in. All three versions of Be Prepared in this contest are great examples of just how far you can take it. Technically, this is good, maybe a couple flats and sharps here and there, but nothing bad. And that last high "friend like meeeeee," phew. Excellent job on that one.You guys really like the funny character songs this week, don't you? It's really hard to live up to Robin WIlliams' memorable performance, and it felt a bit sedate compared to the original, but all in all you nailed this. This is one of those tricky songs where simply getting all the words right and singing it on key is an accomplishment, but you made it sound easy. I was really impressed by that last incredibly high note that you sustained at the end. Although I feel like this didn't break new ground for you or reinvent the wheel, it was an extremely solid performance and fun as always. You should really pay your microphone more. It's absolutely perfect for songs like this. Your voice is also almost always pitch perfect in everything you do. This song was full of jazzy tones that you just milked for every dime they were worth. I loved your characterizations as you did this song. I almost wish you'd pushed yourself a little more especially in the middle of the song. But there were times I was just saying "YES" as you sang because you did capture a lot of the spirit of the original that was just magical. I think another thing that would have been fun to play around with would maybe have been trying some more low growly tones if you have that capability, in this song in particular it would have been really fun for you to just push yourself to the character extremes I know you are capable of, I just also know your week didn't quite play out for you the way you wanted. The fact you got through despite some setbacks is pretty commendable. There's very little not to like about this performance, and I think it was very close to being perfect. Bravo Haschel!9.2

InflatablePieHellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame) https://vocaroo.com/15OdGsWcqGlxI love this round because it gives people the opportunity to really inhabit characters — and what you're doing here is perhaps the best this round on that front. I really hear the character in your voice. Good pitch, good delivery, good sustain on that first long note (2:35). What is it that's making this work so well? I think the vibrato is a big part of it, obviously the delivery and the emotion you're putting into it, but also I think the volume choices too. You're appropriately quiet when he's exhibiting fear of almighty punishment, and angrier/louder when he's cursing the hot gurl. Great work on that big last final note as well. I actually felt some small chills listening to this. There's not much to critique, maybe you kinda slipped on pitch at parts during this song? But that very well could have just been part of the delivery, which worked extremely well, so it's worth it.This was a great choice both in terms of being an iconic Disney villain song and a great fit for your voice. I think this was your best performance so far this contest--your pitch and rhythm were always on. But above all, you sell the emotion and DRAMA of this song so so well. It's like we can hear Frollo's desperation and fear in your voice when you're begging for forgiveness. It's so awesome and intense and goes really well with the epic music. Although there's just a bit of shakiness early on, I actually really like it, because it feels like he's on the edge of crying--this is the kind of performance where the imperfections add to the effect because it's so emotive. I love your acting in the spoken parts too. Excellent job, and I have chills!Fun fact! This is probably my favorite Disney villain song too! Love that journey for us. I think this was a dramatic improvement from last week and I would like to preface this by saying I can tell you took the criticisms last week and really applied them here. Your emotion and control over your voice was just perfection. When you did your first and second hellfire I do have to say you were slightly under pitch. However, towards the end of the song, you hit the high notes towards the end of the song, you were essentially pitch perfect, so you clearly are able to hit those notes, I think it's just a fast song that perhaps you didn't get enough breath support the first chorus. Overall, I think you should be so proud of yourself this week because I could tell how invested you were with this song and it came through. Bravo Pie, this is a big improvement for me from last week!9.133

lilith2013Love is an Open Door (Frozen) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h2mJ83C8V-pQYpjvULs-woDrxZbZb6Ns/view?usp=sharingI don't know this song (never saw the movie), but it's very fun. On the chorus, you're really hitting those flourishes super well. You support yourself very well on the highest notes, good job on your breathing. Ah man, this song is cute! And there's something charming about how you sing it with yourself. Yeah, I don't have a lot to say other than good job! This is a bit different from your usual entry, but I was really feeling it. For one thing, I could just tell that you were having loads of fun with it, and it was really infectious to listen to. I found myself tapping along to the rhythm. I think your problem of having less control of the pitch on lower notes pops up here again (especially the "doors" in "doors in my face" at the very beginning). But once the harmonies came in, you blew me away. They were just so on point and made my jaw drop with how beautiful they were. As always, you nailed the high notes (aside from the very last "with you" that sounded like more of a squeak, but to be honest, I'm mostly just relieved that there are notes out of your range that aren't only audible to dogs)--they sounded really pure this time, and the harmonies added depth to them. Great job! This was such a fun choice from you. I think you had so much fun with this which I'm not used to hearing when you sing, you really are blossoming this season and are taking the advice we give to heart. I loved your choice to do two voices and I think layering is something new we haven't seen from you yet. There were just a couple of times the voices clashed towards the end pitch wise, so if you are going to do something like this again, be sure to check that as it can be jarring a bit when playing them together. Aside from that, I think you were technically pitch perfect throughout the song. Would I have liked a little more difference in energy between character A and B? Perhaps, but that's hard to do for one person, so I applaud you for trying. A delightful disney song!9.266

ManateeGalBe Prepared (Lion King) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DwNbuP8mfG-wJouyGaSLb-eU9B__qxTI/view?usp=drivesdk I feel like your voice is embodying the character here. Scar has this delightful sassiness and arrogance, you know...a very fun villain. I hear some breath problems here, which sound like they're making it hard to really crisply hit some of those mid-word pitch changes ("successions") and sustains ("news"). Ohhhhhh the way you hit "deliciously" was very nice. And that wicked laugh afterward! I love it, I really love it. On the last two times you sing "be prepared," again, the laugh is great, but I hear some trouble making the long "prepared" powerful. I hear some aspiration after that first "p," which could be part of the problem (draining breath before you hit the note). Another suggestion would be try to consciously gather your breath before that note, and just play around with giving it more power. Ultimately what makes this song work is the characterization, and you delivered. Were you a theatre kid? I feel like you were a theatre kid. Because it seems like you've really found your niche with the more character-focused fun songs. It's really hard not to compare this to the other Be Prepared entries (yours was menacing but had sort of a refined, softer feeling that was almost like Scar looking disdainfully down upon the hyenas), but I think this was miles away your best entry so far, and I was really impressed. You were on pitch, this song was comfortably within your range, and I could tell you were having tons of fun with it. I loved the aggressive "pay attention" and evil laughs, although maybe I might have limited the laughs to 1 or 2 to be more subtle. Since this song is more about the character than the vocals, it's very hard to give technical critique, because you weren't doing much complicated singing, but I really enjoyed it.I could tell you really got into this song! It was delightful to see you come out of your shell a bit this week with this song. I also enjoyed that you really played to your strengths as a singer this week! I think the first verse and chorus were great! The 2nd verse was about the point where I heard a little bit with pitch issues. Try to think about being on top of the pitch and think a little higher. I think voice support would help with this because there were times where I thought maybe you were a touch out of breath. I loved your cackle. Absolutely loved it. Brilliant choice and really I can't fault you for your song choice even though I do have to compare it to the other two who performed the song this week and in comparison I thought perhaps you were a little subdued or maybe just lacking the intense power or slyness of Scar, but that doesn't mean this wasn't a good performance and that doesn't mean you aren't a good singer. Really this was probably my favorite thing you've done so far, it just happens to be there are two others that I did have to compare it to. But man oh man if I ever end up in a disney movie with you and I hear that cackle, I'd definitely run in fear I was about to be thwarted by the villain because you really did embrace the role!8.366

PrivateII Just Can't Wait To Be King (Lion King) https://vocaroo.com/19CMPcDiBZDKOh damn, I love your Zazu. That made me smile. You're losing the rhythm here at parts...I've noticed that that can be especially tough in Disney songs for whatever reason. Something about the way they construct the rhythm section, it's not always clear where the measures begin. But it's worth working on, because then you don't have to rush on lines like "nobody telling me" or "everybody." I'm skipping all over the place here, but this was a great song choice for you, your voice really matches the character. Ooh that high note at the end, damn. That was an impressive climb! You sound pretty good on pitch here, but I do hear you throwing in a lot of phantom "h" sounds in your pronunciation, which saps strength out of the lines.I feel like I need to do two different reviews of this song: one for the Simba parts and one for the Zazu ones. The Simba parts are solid, and your voice is very fun and pleasant to listen to, but I could tell that you were struggling to keep up with the rhythm for much of the song. Also, some of the high notes sounded like you were straining your voice a bit (in particular on the final chorus), although you were still hitting them. You might want to try opening your throat and mouth a bit for a looser sound. For Zazu, on the other hand: perfection. A masterpiece. A work of art. I literally burst out laughing the first time I heard the Zazu voice because it was so amazing. Thank you for bringing joy into my life. You started really really strong on this song which is hard to nail the energy and rhythm of this particular Lion King song. However in the 2nd & the first half 3rd verse you were off a bit rhythmically. You get it back by the 2nd chorus and second half of the 3rd verse though which is pretty tough to do! I loved your Zazu voice and I think you had a ton of fun with this entry! I also loved the energy you brought at the end of the song and went through not 1 but two key changes which really lifted the ending and gave it that sparkle at the end you love in Disney movies. Bravo! Rhythm aside, I think this was a great performance from you. Well done!8.4

Save The DragonsHe Lives In You (Lion King) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XAUJ-lpf4fWQSbGqZ9yUeFWRZS4PdvAx/view?usp=sharingYou have a way of ending up at the right pitch but dipping out of pitch on the way there...you might be able to work on this by practicing just hitting the notes a little straighter, as in, just crisply hitting one note without deviation. Obviously there are times where it's called for, but it could be good practice. I find myself wishing for some more energy at times here, the chorus has about the same level of energy as the verses, though the music has stepped up...OK, then you really step it up for the last chorus. That part is pretty great. Yeah, thinking about your submission from the last round I feel like this one could have benefitted from some more of that emotional energy.I love this song so much. It's such an underrated Lion King song, but it always gives me chills. You were pretty on in terms of pitch and rhythm (although the very first note was a bit off), and I loved how your intensity built and built throughout the song until the last verse sort of exploded. Sometimes your singing has almost a spoken quality where it feels like you're saying the words instead of singing them. I think there are also times where it feels like you're forcing your voice out--if you try relaxing your voice when you sing, then not only will it feel less strained at the end, but it'll have more of a resonant, melodic sound. There shouldn't be any tension in your throat when you're singing a note in the comfort zone of your range. I hope this makes sense, since it's extremely hard to explain through a comment. My absolute favorite song from the Lion King. I can tell this song is special to you because you have a very caring nature about your tone of voice which I really appreciated this week. It was soft without being jarring. I think though that the softness of your voice didn't lack the sort of spiritual power that I have come to know and love from this song. By this I mean having a rich deep tone that really sells the story behind this song. I think this was just an okay performance overall. It was not bad, you had a nice clear tone and diction, but there was just a sparkle that I really wanted to hear from you really digging deep. The big problem with this is the background voices have that deep power from which that tone comes from and in comparison your voice was nice, it was pleasant, but I would have liked to feel just a bit more. Although this wasn't my favorite performance from you, I do think you have a very pleasant tone to listen to and you have shown you can sing. I very much appreciate you being willing to put yourself out there and appreciate your zeal for singing. I'm not sure this was enough to survive this week, but you have an incredible heart my friend and I'm very thankful to have heard a different side to you.7.533

SkeldaBe Prepared (Lion King) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xE9HacJYuF4nHUwdlLfLjQgX6WqU0VhA/view?usp=drivesdkIt's actually very fun to hear three versions of this song, just because it's such a fun song. Oh you're really bringing the British aristocracy to this opening part. You're doing some lovely, sharp step-downs on some of these early lines ("side," "pride"). Your campy flourishes on lines like "sensational" are also working for me, you did a great job just going all-out on that. It kind of took me by surprise, actually, because of what you did on lines like that, when you remained quiet for the first "be prepared." Maybe that was a choice, but I think it would've worked better to go bigger on those lines when they call for it. Yeah, you made this work.I could tell you were having a blast with this one. To be honest, I think you got a bit unlucky this week for having chosen the same song as two other people. I love that you took risks and did something a bit different for this song, and also that you committed 100% to your character choices with the diction and accent. My biggest criticism is that although your take on the character is unique, it's hard not to compare it to the other Be Prepareds, and I think that the "Scar as an imposing and menacing villain" portrayals worked better for me personally than "Scar as a quirky oddball" ones. Like, I know that Scar is funny and British, but this is a villain song, so he loses some of his underlying threat for me when he's too wacky. I think toning down some of the sillier bits might have made him scarier. But I can tell that you're a great actor, and it was still a lot of fun to listen to you chew the scenery with so much delight. And some of your delivery ("you won't get a sniff without me") was killer. This isn't the most vocally challenging song, so I was sad it didn't showcase your lovely voice, but your singing was on-point when we got to hear it. Well done!Okay yes Scar, get it! This is how I imagined the king of the hyenas would sound. Very devious and sneaky. Your theatrical voice lent you a lot of strengths in this song. You really thought about vowel placement and really thought about how to portray one of the best disney villains. There were a couple times in the 2nd chorus where you went slightly sharp which is a problem you don't usually see. One of those things where your voice went high and just overshot it. Not a hard thing to fix, certainly easier to just think about pitch placement and scale back slightly. I also felt like this performance of scar went for the more devious, however it lacked power. Scar has both. He's a bit devious and I kind of liked your softer approach to the first be prepared, but in the end I wish you'd tried to be a bit louder. One thing I want to specifically warn you about this week is when you started some of your words, I could hear a sort of "frogish" noise. This is what is known as glottal singing and if you do it consistently when you sing, it actually can lead to permanent voice damage. I used to do it all the time and a voice teacher luckily stopped me before I did more damage to my voice than I likely did. So just be sure to have nice open vowels when you sing and sometimes adding a silent breathy h to the front of some of those vowel starting words will actually help you not have this problem. I want you to have fun in this contest, not ruin your voice. I haven't heard this issue from you before, so it was probably just fatigue or a fluke, either way it's something to watch going forward. You should be proud of this performance though, you really did nail a side of Scar that I thought was lacking from the other two who performed it and I enjoyed it a lot, but I also didn't think you had the power in the latter part of the song that the other two embraced more, so it's a double edged sword. Amazing theatricality to this song though, I really did enjoy it and I hope it doesn't just seem like I'm nitpicking, I mostly just don't want you to lose your voice because I do enjoy it so.8.766

T-BoneI'm Still Here (Treasure Planet) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkBtboJ0Tb8Another one I don't know! I like your voice in this first verse, it's got a very modern rock singer quality to it. I like the energy you're putting into this, and that combined with your vocal tone really makes the song work. On the second verse (0:50) you go up an octave, and I'm not really sure why...could be that the song calls for it, idk. But I hear some problems coming in when you jump up. It's not that you can't hit the pitches, exactly, it's more that you have a harder time with breath support in that upper range, and that can make certain notes wobbly. Sounding better on the chorus. One thing I would say is to make sure to conserve your breath when you know you have a long note coming, just kinda work on being conscious of how much breath you're using and how long you can last singing a note at that level, and then adjust for how long the note needs to be. It can be kinda hard to figure out but it's worth doing.I was so delighted when I first noticed this was a video entry. Since this is a singing contest, I was doing my best not to look at the video the first time around so I wouldn't be influenced, but every time I caved, it was amazing to see how much fun you were having with it. You have great energy, and I could tell that this song is one that's dear to your heart. I think the biggest problem for me with this entry was pitch, especially on the first verse and chorus. The really high notes seemed like they were comfortably within a very pleasant falsetto range that I didn't know you had. The problem for me was that often you weren't singing the right notes and as a result sounded consistently flat, although your pitch improved a lot as the song went on. Which is a shame, because aside from that problem, the song was great for your voice, and the actual timbre of your voice is lovely. I don't know if it's an issue of having trouble controlling your voice or just not hearing the melody, but I think it's something to work on in the future, because I feel like nailing pitch control could lead to dramatic improvements.First off, hello T-Bone! It was so nice to see your bright cheery face this week! Love the facial hair. When you started off the song, I was like, wow this is incredibly faithful to the original and of all the song choices I think this was the perfect song choice for your voice. And then you went up high and kind of blew me away because I didn't think you would be able to hit those notes, and you proved me wrong for the most part. This was an excellent choice of song for you. There are three specific places you fell out of pitch probably from awkward transitioning this song goes from high to low. When you first hit the high notes I think your confidence was a little shaky. In the 2nd verse, the transition from head to chest voice was a little rough. When I was in voice lessons I struggled with this so hard. There's such a balance you have to have and it just wasn't quite there. Finally, in the 2nd verse when you had the slight voice layering, right before the other voice came in your voice slid just under the pitch. Overall though, I applaud you for taking a risk this week and doing something different than everyone else! Great song, faithful rendition to the original, a few little hiccups, but I think you know who you are and although this wasn't my favorite performance from you personally, I have to give props where props are due. Amazing effort.7.766
