Hello, all!

For some reason, people other than me have found my massive reading list to be helpful and informative! I am shocked. That means it will continue into 2013 and beyond! Everything about the list is the same as in last year's list, but just in case, I have some helpful how-to-read-this-list notes for you.

I have realized something this year, and that is that the books I intend to read--the TBR list--are widely ignored while I read books that happen to appear on my desk before those I have to request or purchase myself. Instead of going nuts about this and buckling down to read only the things I plan on reading in advance, I'm doing away with the list of books I'm planning to read. Reading is, for me, mostly unplanned. Like gallbladder disease. So, there will be no TBR list now. I know this is wild and crazy. But still. It's better than adding to a list for no reason. If you want to see what I'm looking forward to reading (someday), check out my Goodreads profile: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/2484696-laura

I'm using the Goodreads rating scale, because it is easier that way. Each book I read will have a numbered rating, between 1 and 5. Here is the translation: 1 = didn't like it (note: this will probably never be used, unless I reread Sister Carrie or Winesburg, Ohio.); 2 = It was okay; 3 = liked it; 4 = really liked it; and 5 = it was AMAZING, or, I would marry this book and mother its children, if it asked me to. That wasn't from Goodreads. That was my addition. I will try for as much honesty as possible. However, be aware that my love of books in general, coupled with my love of whatever book I just finished, regardless of merit, might cause the ratings to skew high in some cases. From time to time, I will choose not to rate a book. This mostly happens with memoirs, because I find it hard to give a rating for memoirs or autobiographies. I always wonder if someone reading my rating will think I am rating the life experiences of the writer rather than their writing, and how could I rate someone's life? So if there is a missing rating, that is why.

If a book is recommended by someone or added by someone (like Kate), I will note that in the "added by" column.
