| CERTIFICATION | |||||||||||||||||
| Question | Answer | ||||||||||||||||
| Where is my wall certificate? (I never got it in the mail) | You would typically be mailed a wall certificate within approximately 2-4 weeks of your passing performance exam and your results letter being sent, however, we have experienced some issues with the company that supplies our specially designed certificate paper. We are working diligently to resolve the issue and will mail your certificate as soon as we can. We understand the value many members place on having a wall certificate, and greatly appreciate your patience through this process.
| How do I become certified?/Info about certification requirements/process? | Information about the process and requirements for obtaining the NIC (National Interpreter Certification) can be found on our website. Information about the process and requirements for obtaining the CDI (Certified Deaf Interpreter) certification can be found here.
| I submitted my college transcripts - did you get them? | Standard review time for degree documentation is 7-10 business days. Once your documentation has been approved, you will be notified via email. If you have not heard from us within 10 business days, please email us at certification@rid.org.
| Questions about the reinstatement process | If you are elegible to request certification reinstatement, your first step would be to submit the request form along with all supporting documentation attached to certification@rid.org. All of the information about the requirements can be found on the request form itself, as well as on on our website (here).
| I never received my newly certified packet - where can I find that? | You can expect to receive an automated email from RID approximately two weeks after your passing performance exam and your results letter was sent. This email will include a congratulations letter as well as your Newly Certified Packet.
| I got my pass results letter from CASLI - why don't I see my updated certification status on my RID member portal yet? | It can take up to two weeks for your RID account to reflect your new certification status. If you haven't seen the update in your account after two weeks, please contact us. Note: you may begin earning CEUs for your new certification cycle any time on or after your certification start date (found on your CASLI results letter). For more Newly Certified information, please see our website.
| Where can I get a certificate showing I completed the Alternative Pathway Program? | The Alternative Pathway/Educational Equivalency Application (EEA) is for RID's internal purposes only and is not something we provide a "certificate" for nor would verify to a third party. The EEA is not intended to show that you hold a degree; it is a pathway by which interpreters who have not satisfied the requirements to obtain a degree from an accredited higher education institution can satisfy RID's educational requirement for certification. Once your EEA has been approved, you are notified via email that your RID educational requirement has been satisfied.
| Does RID still recognize or offer a certification for passing the EIPA performance test? | RID formerly conferred the Ed:K-12 certification based on a passing EIPA written and EIPA performance exam with a minimum score of 4.0, as well as satisfying the degree requirement in place at the time of the certification application. The Ed:K-12 certification is still recognized by RID. However, RID does not currently confer certification based on EIPA scores.
| What training programs/schools can you recommend? How can I find info? | We encourage anyone who wishes to become a professional interpreter to have gone through training and education with that intent, although it is not a requirement to take the NIC or CDI exams Many interpreters have found that, as a formalized education program, an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) can help them prepare for a career in the interpreting field. You can locate ITPs using the search tool on our website. You may also find the FAQs and information on our website helpful, and you can look for training opportunities using our Search for a Workshop tool. While RID does not recommend specific institutions or programs, you can search for schools in your area or online that may offer courses specifically for folks who wish to become an interpreter.
| How do I submit my degree documentation? | Please see Submitting Academic Transcripts on our website for more information.
| Do you offer a PDF/printable version of my wall certificate? | At this time, we do not offer a PDF or printable version of your wall certificate.
