Ready!TomatoAfghan$6.50Late July - AugustFirst time growing: The fine folks at Uprising Seeds describe these as "a beauty, often slightly blushing red at the blossom end in a sunburst pattern as well as in the center when sliced crosswise. We found them to have excellent flavor and balanced acidity. I am often attracted to this size and class of tomato and think they make a lovely and diverse “saladette” size color and shape mix" (I concur with the last sentence - I am very pro mid-size tomatoes)

Nearly!TomatoFiaschetto$6.50Late July - AugustI grew these last year and am a fan! "Fiaschetto is a regional treasure of Puglia in Southeast Italy complete with a designated Slow Food presidia. In Puglia it is preferred even over the more famous San Marzano as the base of passata di pomodoro, perhaps an even better use for it: drying. It is the perfect size for halving and dehydrating for enjoying in the winter months on your pastas and pizzas." - Uprising Seeds

Nearly!TomatoConsteluto fiorentino$6.50Late July - AugustFirst time growing: Talked with the seed farmer of these this winter and this is their favorite tomato because it is great for raw eating and for sauce - she says "Costoluto refers to the distinct flattened, heavily ribbed shape of various Italian heirlooms from Florence. Fruit are juicy and flavorful for slicing but really shine when slow-roasted or cooked down into a rich sauce." - Tomia MacQueen

Nearly!Pepper, MildCalabrian Pepper$8.00Late July - SeptemberPeperone Piccante Calabrese, also know as Cherry Bomb. These are grown from seeds I saved last year, so we'll see how uniform they end up being. But true to type they are sweet, with the heat level of a jalapeno and thick flesh which makes them great for roasting, stuffing and pickling.

Nearly!Pepper, MildMacadonian Grilling Peppers$8.00Late July - SeptemberFirst time growing: "Known in their native region as Vezena Piperka or Rezha ("engraved" or "threaded"), these 6-8 inch tapered peppers get their name from the intricate, fibrous lines that cover their skin. These scars are not flaws; they are the result of rapid sugar production, which is exactly what gives them their deeply sweet and robust flavor when cooked." - Truelove Seeds

Nearly!Tomato, HotSarit Gat Peppers$8.00Late July - SeptemberFirst time growing: "Uniform, canary-yellow fruits have the approximate heat and shape of a cayenne and are great for hot sauce, powdering, or simply spicing up meals. 'Sarit Gat,' meaning "Long Yellow," was bred from a diverse population of yellow chilis sourced from a farmer in Kosovo." - Uprising Seeds

Not Yet!WatermelonYellow Moon and Stars$1.50Late July - AugustFirst time growing: "These watermelons are like large, magical dinosaur eggs. The 15-20 pound oblong fruits are covered with stars and some moons, overlaid on a faint netting. Inside color ranges from lighter yellow to bright orange – the flesh is sweet and delicious, with a light apricot flavor. Yellow Moon and Stars is an heirloom from Georgia that also has roots in the Caribbean." - Common Wealth Seeds

Not Yet!Winter SquashFutsu$2.50Late July - AugustLong time fan, first time growing: "A beloved Japanese delicacy. A traditional favorite with bumpy skin that develops an enchanting gray-to-blush, cloudy "bloom" on the surface. Firm, bright orange flesh with unique, fruity flavor. Skin is thin and edible, so there is no need to peel." - Johnnys Seeds

Not Yet!Winter SquashRed Kuri$2.50Late July - AugustLong time fan, first time growing: "Red Kuri squash features a mellow, sweet, and nutty flavor profile closely resembling chestnuts and sweet potatoes. Its dense, yellow-orange flesh is less watery than a traditional pumpkin, offering a rich, smooth, and slightly earthy taste that deepens when roasted." - Johhnys Seeds

Nearly!CucumberLemon$3.50Late July - AugustNo citrus flavor, but these guys are about the size of lemon with beautiful yellow skin. They don't have much of the chemical that makes other cucumbers bitter and hard to digest. Though often served raw, but also make a fine pickling cucumber.

Not Yet!BeetsCylindra$3.00JuneThese are my favorite beet, and I am on a quest to make them everyone's favorite beeet. Flavor-wise, they are a classic red beet - sweet and earthy - BUT they grow in a cylinder shape resulting in more uniform slices. These are great for slicely thin in salads, roasting in coins, or making pickles.

Not Yet!CarrotsRainbow Mix (adolescent size)$5.00JuneThis is a classic mix of "rainbow" carrots - orange, yellow, white, and purple. I will start harvesting when they're about 3/4" in diameter at the top and about 4-6 inches long

Done for the season.PeasBeaureguard $8.00Late MayThese snow peas are bred by the folks at Row 7 (Chef Dan Barber's seed company) to keep their purple color when cooked. When sauteed the color left in the pan is an insane, vibrent purple. Some will be full pea pods with green peas inside.

Done for the season.TurnipsGolden Ball$3.00Late MayThe Golden Ball turnip is a classic heirloom from the mid-1800s. These are a little smaller in size than a baseball but have the same density. Can be eaten raw (really niced shaved like kohlrabi), and excellent roasted. When cooked they are sweet, nutty, and maintain a little mustard spice. I prefer these over salad turnips for roasting because they don't get mushy. Topped, these store for a long time in the cooler.
