Fairies are unlocked together with Heavy Equipment Construction after 60 unique map clears.
4) Increasing Rarity
The Fairy Enhancement tab can be accessed via Research > Fairy Enhancement.
A Fairy's rarity is increased by giving it fodder to gain "Development EXP" or just called Develop in-game, which in this case can only be gained from feeding other Fairies. Yes, you read that right, you have to feed it with fairies to increase their rarity, which can strengthen their aura buffs.
Below is the level requirement for each rarity:
1★ = Lv 1
2★ = Lv 20
3★ = Lv 40
4★ = Lv 70
5★ = Lv 100
Non-dupes gives 10 EXP, non-dupe with the same talent as the main fairy gives 15 EXP, a dupe gives 100 EXP and a dupe with the same talent as the main fairy gives 150 EXP.
For craftable fairies,
1★>2★ requires 100 EXP
2★>3★ requires 400 EXP
3★>4★ requires 1000 EXP
4★>5★ requires 1500 EXP
Which brings to a grand total of 3000 EXP, which is 30 dupes.
Due to this particular reason, we do not encourage to feed non-dupe to fairy.
For event fairy (Collabs and Ranking),
1*>2* requires 100 EXP
2*>3* requires 100 EXP
3*>4* requires 150 EXP
4*>5* requires 200 EXP
Which brings to a grand total of 550 EXP to reach 5*. Due to these fairies being an one-off type, the only way to increase rarity of event fairies are by feeding dupes of fairies that are craftable.
2) Acquiring Fairy
Fairies can only be obtained from Heavy Equipment Construction (aside from those from ranking and collabs), which also share the pool with equipment. Refer to the crafting chart below. There are 6 fairies unobtainable from the low-cost recipe with all of em being tactical fairies (Fairies all come as 1★).
As you can see, with Tier 1 there is a 27% chance to get Fairies, 11% / 22% / 40% for 5★ / 4★ / 3★ Equipment respectively.

Just like dolls, Fairy skill training also requires data and time, though the amount of data needed differs between Combat and Tactical fairies. The Data needed is listed below

3) What do Fairies do? How do they work?
The Level system of Fairies is seperated into 2 parts, Rarity and Level, with the maximum being 5* and Level 100. The required EXP for a Fairy to reach Lv100 is about tripled of that of a Doll. They can leech EXP from fights just by being in the echelon and without having to pay resources. A Fairy's rarity can only be increased after it reaches certain levels, and requires "Development EXP". Levels determine the rarity your fairy can reach. This part will be further elaborated in the next segment.
(Fairies can also gain normal exp from combat reports)
The mechanics of Fairies are seperated into 3 parts:
1. Passive Stat Buff ( Aura )
The primary mechanic of fairies. Buffs are % based.
There are 5 stats that a Fairy's aura can buff:
Damage, Accuracy, Evasion, Armor and Crit Damage.
2. Active Skill
All active skills require "Fairy Command(s)" to use. Fairy Command are generated in the Fairy Chamber, in which the storage cap and generation rate can be increased by levelling the facilities. Fairy Command are generated once every 6 hours.
Talents are additional stat buffs that trigger through chance at the beginning of the battle.

7) About damage output buffing ( Courtesy to J dalao )
Please only read this after you have read all other commentaries in the Fairy tab!!
IF there is Critical Rate is sufficient, the damage output increase for dolls (from highest to lowest) are as follows: Airborne > Command > Preiya and Camilia(DJMax) (when the special red tile is stepped on)>Warrior (skill on) >= Golden >= Sehra and Nina (skill on) >= Mortar. The rest I shall leave out. Do remember some fairies are harder to 5* than others, so take that into consideration as well. The list was going off pure stats. Also if enemy are armored, damage is valued way more than crit damage.
As the Warrior and Artillery Fairy have differences in terms of Accuracy and Rate of Fire, if both are not absent (i.e MGs against armor), Mortar will be superior. Golden is ranked as such due to Golden's increase of Crit Damage, accounting for the total output (Damage+Crit Damage + Accuracy) Golden can actually surpass Mortar in terms of damage output.
It can be seen that, despite the fact that the Crit Damage can boost damage output to very high levels, it is constantly handicapped by the Crit Rate, and can easily cause instability in damage (the disparity between damage without crit and damage with crit becomes larger). It is bad news in practice. This means that fairies with high base Damage aura still have their places in the ranking.
Last but not least, many of the commentaries are my subjective opinion, I am not in possession of some of these fairies myself, and when I was rating the fairies, I valued their contribution to damage output first, then versatility.
I have rated some of these fairies as being a "low priority". This does not mean that the fairy is useless or is hard to use. Once they are met with a special, for them appropriate situation, their value will be higher than that of other fairies. Higher versatility only means you won't lose out on much if you train them.
Also, I have rated the above fairies when they are at 5★ level 100, but practically raising the stars of fairies obtained through the high cost recipe takes a much longer time and this is a hidden drawback. Not to mention that, due to the many combinations between talent and gun types, many fairies will have their own respective standing amongst others. All it takes is a bit of testing from the community and waiting for a suitable stage.
