1
What aspects of Educ 300 are currently working to help you learn?
2
The readings & going over them in class.
3
Jigsaw activities, journalism exercise
4
Coffee, presentations being online, online syllabus, interaction with other students during class
5
Annotating sources.
6
Analyzing readings with peers and spending the class period doing multiple activities rather than sitting still and discussing one thing the entire time.
7
I like that in class, we are expected to have done the reading, but the discussions/activities/lectures help to guide us toward what is most important. Even for a a person who is very diligent about doing the readings, it is helpful to verify that you paid attention to the right ideas.
8
Learning outside of the classroom - ed policy journalism assignment.
9
I enjoyed going out and doing field work and having guest speakers. It really puts what we are learning in the class room to life.
10
annotated google docs of reaadings
11
The powerpoints really help to layout the material and provides a template for me to follow.
12
A lot of school in Educ 300 help me learn, but the ed policy journalism assignment was the most effective because it brought what we were doing inside the class to outside the classroom.
13
I really like the annotation of the articles it really helps me understand the reading especially if the reading was difficult for me. it also provides a different perspective on the readings I may not have had my self.
14
I really enjoy annotating and discussing the more denser readings we have in class. It helps me (and others) absorb the information and retain what is important.
15
I like the group work that we do in class, especially when we break into groups to discuss some of the challenging readings and then come back together to share our ideas with the class. The jigsaw exercises are also engaging and informative. The powerpoint presentations are also very organized and clear, and they help me follow along with the class.
16
The integration of ongoing events in CT and having interactive classes.
17
All the interactions we have with each other in class really helps. I think it reinforces our learning talking to one another in small groups and then bringing it back together as a full class.
18
Making annotation for reading and going through in class
19
I really like the jigsaw exercises, it takes the pressure off of oneself to learn all of the material alone. By going through it with our classmates and breaking up the work I feel like I am learning the material better. I also think you have created a good environment to participate with our classmates.

21
What aspects of Educ 300 could be working better?
22
A paper syllabus is preferable and allows for more organization
23
Wasted time in class discussing things for ed majors, or how to cite. People should be able to do these on their own time. Seems like a waste of class time
24
Coverage of readings
25
Receiving feedback on assignments faster.
26
The syllabus is really hard to follow and I often worry if I'm missing assignments or readings
27
The more jigsaw activities, the better
28
The amount of reading due for class is not consistent. It would be better it was.
29
The syllabus is very confusing to read, yet I do enjoy how you can click on a day and it skips down the page for you. The confusing part to read is what is due for that day the instructor could put the items that are due in red so it would draw the students attention.
30
maybe more student discussions on readings
31
I think there are a lot of different concepts that make it hard to remember and distinguish between them. If we did an activity to separate out and compare the people, concepts, and ideologies I think it would be beneficial.
32
I think if we discusses the key points about the reformers more clearly it would help to understand what they are linked to and why.
33
I like the example I wish we had more of a discussion about the readings to see how everyone is interpreting what is going on
34
It's a very long class (3 hours) and it can be hard for me to stay engaged for that long. I understand some courses do not have much flexibility when it comes to time-slots, but I feel like this class would work better if it met twice a week.
35
Sometimes, I fell like we cover a large amount of material in one class, and I am not always clear about what all of the historians or historical actors are saying.
36
More explanation on some historical figures' interpretations and theories.
37
The Sunday night deadline is sometimes difficult/ takes time to get used to. Although we have all week to do the work it was an adjustment to submit assignments the day before our class meets.
38
Some of the smaller in class exercises, like looking at the number of people signed up for school in each town, doesn't have a strong impact on me. I think it helps add the the big picture but I need more background on the big picture first.
39
40
What should the instructor do to improve learning in Educ 300?
41
A longer break, like 10 minutes
42
Allow students to see reading quiz questions after they take the quizzes
43
Assign longer sections of fewer readings rather than short sections of many readings, to delve into the readings more
44
maybe handing back interpretive reading quizzes.
45
Condense the syllabus
46
More shared notes opportunities for presentations or recurring themes.
47
The quizzes are not an accurate way of determining my knowledge of the reading. I am concerned that they will be a poor reflection of my effort into preparing for and participating in class. Would you consider giving an extra credit assignment to replace your lowest quiz grade?
48
Remind students more in advanced about projects due have a set outline of important dates.
49
let students lead more discussions
50
Provide the class a graded group activity that combines all of the concepts. This eliminates the stress of an exam and helps students learn together.
51
I think the instructor is doing great!
52
encourage more discussion and questions I feel like people have a lot to ask but are afraid to ask the questions they have
53
I would encourage the continuation of class discussions regarding our readings. I cannot emphasize how helpful those were.
54
The instructor could maybe spend more time on some of the more challenging readings since I feel that we rush through them sometimes in class.
55
Keep up the interactiveness of the course and maybe make some more because talking through with class mates has made many topics and readings understandable for me.
56
There's nothing I can really think of but it would be cool to do have more classes like the first one where we went to the library and looked at primary sources. Getting out of the classroom and having a hands on activity is a fun way to learn, especially when it's related to readings. It's like putting into practice what we learn.
57
an historical outline to help tracking various eras
58
Good structure so far! No changes.
59
60
What should you -- the student -- do to improve learning in Educ 300?
61
Ask more questions, and actively read given the guiding questions for readings on the syllabus.
62
Participate, and have thorough reading notes before every class session
63
Manage my time better so that I can better retain the information contained in readings
64
Take more notes while doing the readings.
65
Make an effort to create meaningful connections between historical and theoretical topics to actual events and issues currently taking place in the field of education
66
I would like to work on being more involved in class. The timing of the class can make it difficult for me personally to be at my most alert, and I could participate more and be more focused during the presentations.
67
Provide more thoughtful ideas during class discussions.
68
Taking better notes on the readings.
69
Participate more
70
Spend time to annotate while reading the assignments.
71
I think if I asked more questions in class, I would learn more about the reformer or the topic we are discussing. Sometimes with the language of the readings it is difficult to understand exactly what the main points are.
72
I could do better about taking notes on the readings. I think I like to just read and remember what is in my head however that makes it very difficult to find example that illustrate my point.
73
It is important to contribute to the discussions so we can get through what needs to be done. Other students may be unsure of certain ideas and discussing them out loud reduces the confusion.
74
Try to read through readings more than once to really understand what is going on when I get lost.
75
Read more attentively, take notes in the readings, and start answering the guiding questions you give us.
76
Improve note taking while doing readings. Not just annotating when we have an assignment that forces us to but getting in the habit of doing it for every assignment.
77
Take and organize class and reading notes more often, frequently make study guide
78
Maybe participate more and not be afraid to take chances in the class. Sometimes I get nervous because I don't want to be embarrassed but in the end it will just help me learn.
