Overview:
15
StrengthsNotes
16
Speed to Power CeilingHis current speed to power on an every down basis is fine, but when he accelerates with a forward lean, gains hand positioning, and extends his arms, his bull rush and long arm are nigh unstoppable. He just rarely puts it all together.
17
Inside ShoulderHis pass rush moves through the B-gap are very effective, whereas taking the edge or lining up out wide is significantly less so.
18
EffortHigh-effort player who never eases up on a rep. His leg drive through contact is excellent.
19
20
WeaknessesNotes
21
Playing his ManTrice is often too concerned about the offensive tackle in his way, and does not fully focus on his objective.
22
Hand PlacementHe simply does not use his hands effectively on most plays. His hand placement is detrimental to both his power and speed rush.
23
Lateral FluidityHe tries to be a finesse player far too often despite lacking fluid change of direction and pass rush agility. His bend and single-step cuts have improved throughout the season though, which is promising for his outlook.

GameTakeaways
27
Arizona (09/30/2023)Excellent get off from two point stance. Active and powerful hands, but poor placement. Strong rip to shed block quickly and cleanly. Could have gone through halfback instead of taking angle. Has strength and drive to work on double teams. Operates entirely from two point stance. Mostly efficient footwork. Occasional false step derived from inconsistent stance width. Played man and lost sight of halfback. Would be a solid edge setter if he read the play instead of playing his man. Needs to work on extension. Good burst, drive, and dip, but not using his hands effectively. Often successful with inside moves. Allows opposing linemen to get their hands inside his shoulder pads far too easily. Sack when attacking inside and actually using his hands. Still could have initiated contact with better arm angle. Rather surprising fluidity compared to last season with some improved bend. Great burst off the line and speed to power when attacking interior offensive linemen, but compromises balance. Another good inside move with the arm over.Leg drive has clearly improved since last season on top of increasing weight, but he is still green as a pass rusher. Has all of the tools to be a star. Mid-late 1st round tape.
28
Oregon (10/14/2023)Delayed off the line, but good burst from two point stance. Been last off the line on too many reps. Good leg drive and effort, but poor angle, hand placement, and playing his man too much. Decent run defense to hold the edge an collapse the B-gap. Awful first quarter, but a good bull rush to start the second. Needs to work on hand placement, arm extension, and contact angle. Good speed to power is lessened by poor arm usage. Lateral quickness is decent at best. Balance is in question as well. Great leg drive - imagine that, a winning rep when he gets inside hand positioning and extends properly. Does not win around the edge. Decent linear closing burst in open space. He loses his drive on some extensions as if he is actively thinking about what to do with individual body parts. Missed swipe entirely. Slows down immediately before initiating contact that rep, which is uncommon for him. Lost leg drive again after getting locked up. Good run defense, chucking the tight end to the side. Violently fighting through double-team while getting held. Good leg drive, but still so delayed off the line. High effort player. Never checks out of the play. Does not square up for tackles. Continuing to false step. Excellent speed to power when actively engaging after three steps. Awful hand usage all around. He is a 4-3 developmental defensive end masquerading as a stand-up outside linebacker. It is peculiar that they never play him from a three point stance. He seems as if he would generate more leverage and be considerably more effective in the pass rush. Poor tape with a lot to clear up. Swapping outlook to "developmental," thus dropping his grade into the 2nd round.
29
Utah (11/11/2023)Quick on release. Trying to be too much of a finesse player. Two point stance getoff is exceptional. Lateral change of direction needs some improvement. Not using his hands as often as he should. Great leg drive. Release is incredible this game. Whatever he did to improve his timing over the last month has worked wonderfully. Such an effective pocket collapser when he accelerates into contact. Bend is improving as well. Timing is a genuine strength this game. Great hustle as always. Pivots and lateral movements are improving. Hands are very stagnant on too many reps. Getting doubled rather often.Fixed his timing significantly this game, removing it from his "Weaknesses." Updated to an Early 2nd grade.
30
Oregon (12/01/2023)Inconsistent release. Active hands. Needs better extension on bull rush. Wrecking ball. Balance needs some work. Balance needs a lot of work. Slows himself down to hand fight too often. Most pressures coming unblocked or on stunts. Great tackle radius. Gave up big play by not squaring up.Comfortable with Early 2nd grade.

Final Scouting Report
33
Bralen Trice plays like a bull in a china shop. With 150 pressures over the last two seasons, he tends to catapult himself violently into anyone standing between him and the pocket on passing downs. When against lesser competition, he absolutely dominates, as seen in his absurd fourteen pressure game at Stanford. His motor is relentless, and he never seemed to ease up on a play despite taking 925 snaps this last season. His speed to power and the momentum he generates with his lean and first step are what make him a plus pass rusher. When he counters to the inside shoulder, it takes a combination of high-end strength and athleticism from opposing offensive linemen to slow him down. Trice is a decent run defender as well, and should find himself in a three down role in the NFL.

The reason he does not have a first round grade is because of his linear playstyle. He is a one trick pony as a pass rusher where he will either go through you or get blocked trying. He has little lateral fluidity, and tends to play his opponent more than the play itself at times. His hand placement when power rushing is also not as refined as it should be for someone who will be 23-years-old by the time of the draft. In the NFL, he will be playing against significantly bigger and stronger offensive tackles who will test his linear play style. While his effort is relentless, his ability to win reps against the more sturdy and athletic NFL tackles is certainly in question, thus leaving him with a second round grade.
