George Washington University, ECU Vidant, New Mexico are the only ones that are not participating (NP) | Anyone know if UNM or ECU Vidant are going to participate this year? | UNM's derm residency program lost accreditation: http://nmpoliticalreport.com/40050/unm-dermatology-department-loses-accreditation/ | Is ECU Vidant taking their full derm class outside of the match? They only take 2 a year. ACGME still has their residency as accredited. | they didnt participate last year eitherUniversity of Miami? | No they are registered now. | Different from Jackson Hospital? | Jackson Memorial Hospital is University of Miami's teaching hospital

Does anyone know if there will be programs that require 4 LoR's?seems like most say they require 3, but don't say a max. so do people typically send 3 or 4...? anyone know? | Some people submit 4 if they have 4 strong letters from well known derm faculty, others submit 3 and then a strong letter from either a research mentor or an attending in a field like medicine | feel like most people I talked to last year submitted 4 | Sent 4 to all programs last year, even if they required 3, was totally fine. 3 derm 1 medicine | ty | can I upload a 3rd derm letter after this month's away (likely after Oct 1) or would that be too late? | If you release it to all the programs, it will depend on whether they download the letter. Most programs I've heard download in two batches to catch any stragglers, so theoretically you should be ok uploading that letter, but there's no guarantee a program will get it if they only do one batch download before Oct 1, does that make sense?|yes, thank you! | np! happy to help :)
4
Deos anyone know which programs have tons of internal candidates?
5
when do prelim interviews start?in the same vein, when do TY interviews start? i assume a bit earlier than the derm interviews?TY/prelim are in October/November. Most derm are in December/January and even a few in early February. | From last year: NY programs coordinate interviews usually for the last week of Jan, some Texas interviews happy in early Feb, hope other people chime in with trends they've noticed in the past
6
Is there a compilation somewhere of programs that will require a supplementary essay / other form to be submitted / etc?I know Boston does, any others? Did Mayo email you regarding the supplement?ohio state | MAYO DOES | UT-Southwestern and BU | U Conn?? Just got an email from them | Indiana, UMass | Thank you for the heads up!!! || UPenn has a supplementary questionnaire on their website
7
Anyone know what programs absolutely require STEP 2 in order for application to be reviewed?only one I'm aware of on the website is Tufts. | UCSF, Cleveland Clinic... | FYI I got an interview at Tufts without taking either Step 2 yetUCSF? I remember they want something special for Step 2 | i think they require step 2 to be RANKED | That's what I understood from their official website, as well. Said need Step 2 scores to be ranked
8
Is St. Joseph Mercy only an ostepathic program? They have two tracks on ERAS but the website says its an osteopathic program.Strange. is it possible they have both a regular and osteopathic track? their program director is a DO that's what ERAS makes it look like so idk. All their residents are DO too | It was an osteopathic program that just merged with ACGME - this is their first year taking MD applicants it looks like | thanks!

Post away rotation impressions! I'm curious about other programs x2Please everyone update the list. It will help future years as well. x2 | Just so you know, last year, people filled out this information on away rotations AFTER rank lists were due. Nobody wants to take the chance of being "found out" before rank lists are turned in. Not a big deal as it's more for people who will be doing this next year, but just as an FYI as to when a lot of that sheet was filled out so people aren't intently waiting, hoping it will be filled out soon.Got it. Just fyi I understand those concerns, and I filled out one of the away rotation impressions, but made it generic enough so that i couldn't be identified

Do any programs require letters from non-dermatologists? | haven't seen this on any websites | I haven't seen any that specifically ask for a letter from a non-dermatologist, that doesn't mean not to though. If you're going to do it, limit it to one.
12
Did a large number of new programs just open/a great number of spots just added? I thought there were like 375 and now there are over 420 | New derm programs added, spots added here and there to existing programs that push for more resident spots, Physician (R) spots, etc.<--- There has been a steady increase over the past 4-5 years in the number of dermatology spots offered | Is that like a flood of them as in, it is about to be inundated with new providers/gonna get radiology-ed<--likely no: many spots existed outside the match before the "all-in residency" process a few years ago. A better estimate of the number of trainees comes from people who sat for the boards the first time and not numbers of spots officialy in the match
13
Does anyone know if you submit/get something published after submitting how to update the app?i think the only thing u can update after submitting is the personal section. you would prob need to email programs
14
I am currently planning on completing dermatology interviews (if I get any, hah!) during December and January. Does anyone know if most people also schedule their Prelim/TY interviews during these months as well? | Try to schedule them before Dec/Jan if you can, a lot of them do have spots in late Oct/Nov/early Dec, derm is busiest during January, avoid prelim interviews during Jan for sure if you can <------ This x1 | Most prelim programs interview the bulk in October/November/early December, rarely in January (though some do). You'll naturally do prelims first and derm last just because of how scheduling works. Most derm programs interview in January. You'll start getting interview invites for internship very quickly. Schedule those as early as you can and get them over with. Derm programs will take their lolly-gagging time for very few interview dates, so use those first few months to do those interviews.
15
Looks like when we want to go back and refresh our Step 2 scores, it'll send to every school. Anybody know how we can send to just the schools that ask for it? I'm planning on sending later in the season - will programs be notified that my score is in? Or will I have to email and tell them to take a look? | You can't send to select schools, once you release, it will be uploaded so that any school can access it. However, not every school may re-download your application, so you never know who's actually going to see it. I've never had a derm program ask for it though, only had prelim programs bug me for it | Makes sense since they're affected the most if you don't start on time. You can't send it to only the programs you want for the update. Once you click the thing on ERAS, it updates for everyone. The program has to check the portal though and usually once they download it, they won't go back, besides probably the programs that want Step 2 scores. Oops, the person before me said the exact same thing, sigh, sorry. | Thank you both!!!
16
anyone know how many letters stanford wants?et
17
Anyone know the step1 screen for UCONN? | I don't think there is one for when they asked for the supplement, because I got the email and realized I forgot to assign my Step scores | --> this gives me hope!
18
Are there any interviews the week between christmas and new years? | You can check on the spreadhseet from last year. From what I remember there weren't. rutgers 12/28Isn't the Rutgers one for like 1 spot? | lolz high yield interview | lolz | Ha, ha, good one! A derm match is a derm match, right? | supposed to be 2 a year. they have really good hours for residents | Last Rutgers-NJMS derm match with 2 was in 2013, Rutgers-RWJMS has always been 1, at least since 2012.
19
How many prelim/TY programs did you guys apply to?12 prelim medicine/10 TY. | 35 total | 16 TY | | 15 prelim
20
Anyone know how many applicants there are estimated to be in the pool this year? Heard from a credible source that a relatively strong east coast derm program had significantly less applications compared to prior years on 09/15 (~60%) | Had to have been a not so great program, a new program. It was crazy last year, but hardly less applyingCould it just be that program? I'd find it extremely hard to believe that there would be a sudden drop off of 40% of applicants. From talking to people at my school, also doing aways and talking to many people frmo other schools, I did not observe this trend. | Interesting, good to know.| Hm, fewer people are applying in my school than in previous years.
21
has anyone gotten any TY interviews yet? | No :( x3. YES, just got one tonight | Yes, 6 so farTY years are pretty competitive. They're not like prelim years so they'll be much more selective and not doled out as easily.l Just got one from Mercy St. Vincent in Toledo | Did you receive confirmation of your interview date from Mercy St. Vincent in Toledo? | I got an automated confirmation email after I scheduled at St. Vincent l MacNeal hospital | Do people know if they send out multiple batches of interview invites, or is it a one time deal? | Varies by program, but usually batches as not everyone will accept an invite, and people drop internship interviewsI haven't heard anything from either TY or Prelim programs x5
22
Any prelim program invites go out yet?anyone have thoughts on California schools? | expensive living AF | regardless of reputation, a lot of them are super desirable because of their location (and many of them are really good, too) and will be ranked highly by many applicants based on geography alone. Though all relatively highly competitive, UCSF and Stanford are some of the top programs in the nation (in many respects). USC is also a well-respected program with excellent clinical diversity given its county hospital and is a program that is known to give residents great autonomy | Are there any "weak" derm programs in CA? Maybe Loma Linda. Doesn't matter, everyone wants to live in California so they'll all be competitive for that reason alone.| The UC programs are all considered very competitive and strong programs. UCSF is considered a top 5 but has the reputation of being very malignant | From speaking to UCSF residents it actually sounded to me like changes have been made to address some of the issues residents were having - did not get the impression that it was a malignant environment but if someone has some inside info please share! | what was making the program malignant? just the sheer amount of work or interpersonal conflicts? I'm not concerned about the amount of work, but interpersonal conflicts would influence my ranking | Definitely hours and work volume. In the past, on previous spreadsheets, UCSF derm residents seemed pretty exhausted & a little late by the time they got to the applicant pre-interview dinner & it was quite noticeable. I don't believe any of it was interpersonal conflict related. I mean it's UCSF so maybe people just accepted it as is. | http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/preliminary-transitional-year-interview-thread-2016-2017.1222021/
23
Anyone get the notification from UPENN today that your application is incomplete | No, how many letters did you have in at the time? | yes I did, I only had 2 LOR at the time waiting for 2 more, 1 came in today. They requested all LOR to be submitted by 10/1I did- ALJ | Maybe it's because you havent done the supplemental survey on their website?

NRMP Charting Outcomes of the Match 2016 -- Dermatology is on page 42 of 211 --> http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Charting-Outcomes-US-Allopathic-Seniors-2016.pdf Thank you to whoever posted this link, I added a tab in our Google Spreadsheet called "Outcomes" to include the explanations right next to each measure so that it's easier for everyone to read and actually understand what the data means. Good luck to everyone! | wow mvp x 2 | Wow, this was fantastic! x2 | I added a list of Derm programs that didn't fill from the 2016 Match to your added tab from this other link, if you don't mind me adding it: http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Main-Match-Program-Results-2012-2016.pdf | I don't mind at all!! I didn't even know that existed. Thanks for posting that info. What do people think of the programs who had unmatched spots? Strange? Did they just have terrible impressions on everyone during interview day or just not rank well? | My opinion: Some of them looked to be flukes (Case, Dartmouth, maybe Tufts), others were new starting programs (Temple), the rest of them I wasn't really surprised at going unfilled since they were lower-tier Derm programs (Howard, VCU, Oklahoma, UTHSC San Antonio, etc.). I honestly think they got too cocky with their rank list and there are only so many top-tier Derm applicants (in a pool that is so strong already to begin with). | As someone with inside knowledge on one of the "lower-tier" unmatched programs last year, I can tell you they both got too cocky and ran into some weather issues that resulted in cancellations by a couple of interviewees and left a bad taste in interviewees mouths based on how the program handled some of the interview day logistics.| <-- You the MVP thank you! x2
25
Does anyone know if in past years there might be derm programs that would want updated transcripts (e.g. if u interviewed in january and they wanted to see how you had been doing since submitting eras)?I don't know of any derm residency program that asks for a mid-year transcript the way some selective undergraduate universities do for high school students. Once it's uploaded (make sure it's completely correct though beforehand), it's downloaded by the program and that's that. Step scores are a different story in terms of wanting updates, but that's for programs that ask for Step 2 to be completed in order to be placed on the rank list. | Thank you. x2
26
Anyone receive the Indiana supplement email? | Yes | Yes x5 | Does it matter when we submit these sups or as long as they are in by the due date? | I would think it would be by the due date (which is earlier than the due date on the website for applications in general), just because it's sort of an internal deadline for supplemental information w/your application on a temporary "hold". They're clearly trying to get people who would actually be interested in coming there vs. people who just apply because they clicked a button on ERAS. It's a good way to get an actual good pool of people all of whom would be happy there and they don't have to decide those interviews until for Dec/Jan. so they have a while to go thru it and read it thoroughly. | solid, thanks!
27
What is with all these places and their supplements. ugh | LOL bc our $26 isn't enough interest | lololol | better than sending more money | not if those supplementals will be used as excuses why not to give interviews. It's ridic bc we're all applying everywhere bc we have no choice since it's derm and it's not like we have experiences with every program. | ya agreed. o well.....gotta do what u gotta doFor these supplements, are you guys writing your answers in a word doc and attaching it or just answering in the body of the email? | I'm typing it in a Word Doc, one inch margins, 12 pt font. and saving it as a PDF so it can't be messed up on the othe end, then attaching to email. My guess is the program coordinator will be downloading it and printing it out for the faculty member(s) going thru the application, so I wouldn't just put it in the body of an email. | Agree, DOC or PDF is the way to go. Are you guys emailing it or replying the to in-ERAS message? | Nah brah save them the step of downloading, that would be so annoying if it was me | --> why would clicking a button so it automatically downloads be annoying? | I'm emailing it from the email I entered in ERAS for all match correspondence to the program coordinator directly with cc: to myself so I know that it went through, and just copying the in-ERAS message inside the email so they know what it's referring to.
28
Anybody know more about the Rush program? There isn't much information on the websiteThere's a reason it's gone unfilled in the past | It's funny to see how great some Derm program websites are when it comes to finding information about the program and how poor others are especially when updating info, who the residents are & where they come from, etc. seems to coincidentally correlate to where they are in terms of tiers of programs
29
Yeah I am fairly certain they are referring to the CV built by ERAS. Did you find any other supplements? || Still making my way through the list, but I will update if there are any I find that aren't listed above. The one I saw so far was UPenn which has a supplementary questionnaire. || Update: did not find any additional supplements. | you rock friend
30
Really wish I was hearing back from more prelim/TYs | How many do you have? | 2 prelim at this point | That seems like a lot? | I should probably stop reading the SDN prelim thread where it shows invites sent from programs I expected to hear back from | Save your energy and anxiety for derm invite waves not for internship programs, especially this early, and yes it's early.<--- it's way early. Categorical IM program send interviews out early but come mid october and later is when most PY medicine programs will start sending invites.
31
Kaiser with the fake out... | lol! | why do programz feel the need to tell us they are reviewing our app lol
32
I'm kinda curious to know how many of us are actually on here...how representative is the sample? Comment an x if you haven't already :) | How about we just update the #? | What's the point if people log in and out?29If I had to take a guess at least 40 users. The SDN link to this thread has 3000+ views. Thoughts? | This thread is not as active as last year at this time, just FYI | how do we make it more active? can someone bump on SDN? Looking at past SDN posts, it's usually been added to Dermatology Interview Invite Threads in the derm forum for that specific application cycle. | IIRC the SDN link to this thread is in last year's thread so the view count is prob inflated | someone make a new thread on SDN? | This spreadsheet is so hard to find coming from the SDN Derm forum, you have to actually search for it. Don't know how it was done before in terms of it being easier to search for.
33
Does anyone know the dates their programs are interviewing? Might be helpful to post known dates in the interview tab as prelim invites start rolling out to avoid potential double bookingHere are Derm residency interview dates from past years: http://interviews.derminterest.org/. They have a "Interviews by Date" you can click on to see them all in past years, and they'll do the same for this year. They have a "Residency Interview Database Director" who puts it together: http://derminterest.org/People/CurrentOfficers.aspxjust wanna say, these positions some people have.... Psoriasis Commitee chair? | They should just rename it to "I'm a huge kissass who desperately needs a leadership position"| Maybe I'm mistaken, but it looks like they just keep adding positions, at least from the time it started: http://derminterest.org/People/PastOfficers.aspx
34
Just a question looking at above - do residency faculty take being a national DIGA officer seriously? I mean is it a valued part of the process?I don't think it plays a huge role, honestly. It's sort of something interesting to talk about at interviews since almost everyone there has the academics and the scores. Many of my home program's faculty don't know what they actually do, and I don't think they really have a huge role or impact at the national Derm level. You're better off just concentrating on grades, board scores and research first and getting involved in your school's Derm interest group first. | Truth
35
Are the # of spots on the Interviews tab for each Derm program accurate? Where are you guys getting this information from?Spreadsheet owner here - i copy and pasted from last year's document | Thanks!!! | I went ahead and added a column right next to it with the number of Derm positions in the 2016 match from the NRMP link: http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Main-Match-Program-Results-2012-2016.pdf, not including R0 (Physician) positions, just so that people have a more accurate gauge of how many positions there are for each Derm program
36
Stony Brook - As of 10/01/2016, this program is no longer accepting applications for the ERAS 2017 season. If you applied before this date, the program will be able to access your application. - Per ERAS... very interesting.Maybe their deadline was today? | Did you just apply today and get this message? I got nothing... | A lot of programs have Oct 1 deadlines, not sure why anyone would wait this long to apply | If you search for stony brook in your "Programs Applied to" tab its written there | Penn and Yale say the same thing | They're also all NLA (No Longer Accepting applications) on the ERAS Participating Programs List.
37
Is there a way to see how many spots each program is taking? Officially? I know its on the interview tab but where is that info from? | See above from the Spreadsheet owner, it was from last year's Google Spreadsheet | I went ahead and added a column right next to it with the number of Derm positions in the 2016 match from the NRMP link: http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Main-Match-Program-Results-2012-2016.pdf, not including R0 (Physician) positions, just so that people have a more accurate gauge of how many positions there are for each Derm program | wow thanks!! x 5<-- even last year's wasn't completely accurate, some of the bigger programs have more wiggle room; positions open up with more funding so at least one matched one more applicant than the number that was listed | You can check on the Outcomes tab, there is a link next to the Unfilled programs where it has spots for each Derm program from 2012-2016, and just go with the latest in 2016. It's likely going to be the same #. Some places do get extra funding late in the year and are able to tack a spot on in a given year but that varies and as mentioned usually with the bigger, higher tier programs. | ya there is definitely some wiggle room for some of the bigger more high-tier programs. | If there are added spots, they're usually R0 (Physician) spots that immediately start that upcoming July which 4th year med students are ineligible for. | actually its usually smaller programs that get funding for an extra spot.
38
Just looking through last year's spreadsheet, the earliest programs contact us would be late october, but most in november and even december...what a long time!Yeah, there's a reason I drank, watched and caught up on so much Netflix in the fall, just waiting while everyone else in other specialties were getting interviews thrown at them | something to look foward to | lol
39
Intern year interviews finally rolling in!! YAAS! | .........i about just had a heart attack reading this thinking that derm invites were starting to roll out. | LOL, Derm invites aren't even close to coming out right now. That would be too kind and humane. Maybe more towards end of October for the actual invite.
40
41
Hey guys, I noticed people are populating interview dates in the interview tab. Is this information from program websites, or have you received invites? Please also fill in the contact date if that applies. Thanks! It's from derm residency websites in which they list their date of interview(s). | Thank you, that's super helpful for prelim interview planning <3If your school's date isn't on there update it please!
42
I was just wondering, is it common now for Derm programs to run both a derm residency for MD residents as well as for Nurse Practitioners? I've been looking at derm residency websites and a little shocked to see a Derm NP on staff of a strong Derm program, with Derm physician attendings. Is this something that the AAD has embraced going forward? Are allopathic derm residents learning beside NP residents? | ----> That would be a complete deal breaker for me x2I have browsed a lot of derm sites and haven't seen this. Since this is public information, can you share which program this was? | It was Case Western's website. I was browsing thru the Derm residency faculty: http://casemed.case.edu/dept/dermatology/faculty.html, and they have several NPs on their faculty and according to one of their bios they apparently have a Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Program there. IDK if their NP residents trained next to MD derm residents or something. A little bit irked honestly. | According to their Youtube video, it looks like that Case's NP "residents" and the MD/DO derm residents actually work & learn together: . My jaw just dropped watching that. Don't know why funding for NP derm resident(s) can't be used instead for more Case MD/DO derm spots. Just one more way the AAD and academic derms stab med students/derm residents in the back. | I mean - guys, if we want to protect our futures, we need to take a stand against things like this. No one else will fight for us. It's not uncommon to hear about midlevels thinking that dermatology is easy and hearing taht they want to move in the field. Is there any indication Case is actually a "top" program? I would be extremely hesitant to train there. | Case is not a "top" program, but it's a relatively strong Derm program. From their website, they do quite a bit of derm basic science research if that's your thing.Hmmm interesting, thanks for sharing | This has been looked into heavily by the AAD. Just google "Derm Care Team AAD" and see how the AAD responded to a NP organization that wants to independently certify themselves as "dermatologists." You'll find their position statements on the matter | If that's the case why is an allopathic Derm residency program like Case sponsoring an NP Derm residency with NPs on their faculty? You can't say they're not dermatologists, when you're then sponsoring their training. You either believe that NPs can do Derm care or you don't. | Wow, I saw that Youtube video and I'm amazed. At least at USF, the derm Chair here tried to fight the formation of the NP Derm residency in the first place, but NONE of our Derm residency faculty participate in that shit. It's run completely thru the College of Nursing and some private practice Derm docs. For an academic allopathic residency to embrace it, is newer territory, I think. | How many NP residents does Case Derm take? Not that I can apply, but just wondering how crowded it gets. I don't know of any other derm program that does this. Our program director would flip out if this happened. | So derm residents at Case have to split patients with NP's in training? Who gets priority in the program? Is case saying that afte training, the two are equivalent? | Based on her description in the Youtube video link in the "B" column, she said they "learn together", which could be anything - she doesn't specify. I don't think Case has made a statement re: equivalency. I think shit would hit the fan if that happened.

Where can I find a link to last years spreadsheet? here ya go! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1t3VZNc0Tzm6iyFROwBJF6FYVOR4OR2-yfluJByiQWdw/edit#gid=1111221881

Did people get rejected from Wake Forest today? The interviews list has a rejection date listed as 10/7 but it's in green so not sure if it's an error or what. | There's still alot of day left | what does that mean? | Got rejected from Wake Forest today, can confirm. Rejected x2 | Looks like last year they sent their first invites/rejections on the same day (10/14) - could this be the beginning?!? | how did they let you know?ERAS message, correspondence with attached pdf stating not selected for interview. ----------- Did it say how many people applied this cycle?
45
For pre-interview dinners, this isn't paid for by the programs right? | Yes, it's paid for by the derm residency program. It comes out of funds already allocated for recruitment of residents - and food & drink is cheap in the long run. They probably won't pay for alcohol, bc of institutional policy, if you decide to buy it though, but they'll tell you in advance. It's nice because the residents usually stop over to meet people and you can eat and drink to find out more about the program. It's really nice if you've never had the experience before (like a real job before). | oh cool, thanks for the info! | actually most of them do pay for alcohol....Wouldn't it be awkaard if they asked everyone to split the bill at the end? i would imagine they would pay for it...| lollll yes it definitely would | what do we wear? | It's usually business casual. | so as long as not jeans prob fine? | Yes, definitely no jeans. Khakis are fine.
46
Is there a general number of prelim/TY's interviews people go on to be safe? | I'm going on 20 total - TYs + Medicine Prelims. That should be a safe number, I think | you have 20 interviews already?? Damn | No, I PLAN on going on 20 total. Sorry I thought you were asking about "interviews people go on" in your question. | thx for clarifying | 20 is so many haha | 20 is a lot.... How will you have time to do that many with derm interviews? | i mean if the person has the time, energy, and money, more power to them for being able to go on 20 interviews |--> I'm the person planning (so far) on going on 20 internship interviews. Most Derm interviews will be in December and January only. Looking at last year, 2015-2016: http://interviews.derminterest.org/, there were only 3 Derm programs who even gave interviews in November at all: U Wisconsin, Henry Ford, UNC, and those programs have have more than 1 interview date anyways. Maybe I'm just really spooked out by those who didn't match at my school last year and ranked too few internship spots or those who went down lower on their internship list than expected, but I guess I want to avoid going thru SOAP for an internship spot as those tend to be a lot more Surgery Prelims. Maybe I'm being overly cautious, IDK. nothing wrong with being overly cautious, it's just that 20 seems like quite a high number, obv you should do as many as youre comfortable with | Yeah, it's hard to know this early on bc I've never done this before. Residency would be my "first job", lol. I know some people last year in my school were ADDING programs later in the cycle when your yield is a lot less, so I didn't want to to do that since it's almost impossible to be offered an interview then. I think the NRMP has released data comparing different years and applicants are applying to more places, going on more interviews, just as an overall general rule. Just trying to avoid mistakes made in the past. I've come to terms with the price of this shitshow. lol. | good for you man, good luck to you | You too!!! Best of luck to you as well.
47
Has anyone else been getting prelim invites that say categorical somewhere in the email? Sometimes it says prelim somewhere else too but sometimes it doesn't haha. I know it's gotta be a mistake but just wondering if this is happening to anyone else | yes. it also seems like we interview at the same time as the categoricals sometimes?Things are probably confusing enough that they don't separate out and make a categorical version and a prelim version of every document. Yes, it happens all the time that categoricals and prelims interview on the same days vs. separate days, because it's already taking up a lot of faculty's time to interview people in the first place, when they still have to see patients.

anyone know if its a good or bad idea to send emails to programs you have a strong interest in/ties to? i have heard from some people that its better to have a mentor call for you, but have to imagine that'd hurt your chances at your home program...I'm under the impression that sending emails on your own is frowned upon in derm unless you absolutely have extenuating circumstances and MUST match at a program I guess (in which case you probably already would have done an away there?). Better to have your mentor reach out for you later on in the cycle because it looks better - a lot of programs probably haven't even begun reviewing. | Only do it thru a Derm faculty mentor who is willing to call on your behalf. Don't do it on your own. Derm is competitive, so they can't tell if you really mean it or are just trying to increase your yield to match, so they often will go with the latter assumption. If you had a strong interest for that particular program, that's something that can be put into a personalized personal statement for that program.<--- What about couples match when the partner secures an interview at the same institution? | That probably won't impact at the getting the interview stage, vs. possibly more the ranking stage. Even then that would require your derm mentor who wrote one of your letters calling on your behalf once your spouse gets an interview at the institution in another field. | <-- I matched derm and my partner matched IM last cycle through the couples match. I actually found that emailing programs where he received interviews at and explaining our situation netted me a couple derm interview invites that I wouldn't have received otherwise. In my experience, it does help to reach out. We were selective and only reached out to a couple institutions where we were both very interested in going. This was especially helpful to do before derm interview invites at a particular institution went out (since those tend to be sent out in a single batch). | <-- Did you email the PD or coordinator?
49
looks like Dartmouth, Wisconsin, UNC and Wake Forest starting sending out invites around this time last year so maybe we'll hear some news soon! | ooo excitingsoOoOoooOOoo exciting. Anyone hear about some IOs yet??? | U Wisconsin just sent out invites.
50
miami -_- | Haha, agreed completely. With the identical second email a few minutes later, to boot. | What was the email, didn't get anything...nvm, in spam | I only got one? x5 | I'm the one that mentioned the second email. It literally was a carbon copy of the first one sent a few minutes later. Probably just an error in their system. | gotcha thanks
51
What happened to that VCU invite??<------ VCU sent out invites?? | same question as below.. Did VCU mention how many applicants there were?|no they didnt| according to Freida, they interview 26| they sent out invites in december last year kinda surprised | Well VCU Derm also went unmatched in 2016, so that might have had an impact in terms of not being too ridiculously picky. It is Richmond, VA after all. | never been to richmond , how is it over there? Richmond is actually very nice! | Richmond is an AWESOME city, right on the James River, tons of places to eat, great things to do outdoors (hike, bikes, running) and tons of vineyards and breweries in the area. | I'll so take Charlottesville over Richmond any day.just got a VCU invite! Their dates are 1/13 or 1/20 | Rejected from UNC, Interview invite from VCU and Wisconsin <------- wow congrats you must be a stellr applicant
52
what time did they send out the invite|around noon CST| Did they mention how many applicants there were/if this was all of the spots they had? | 500+ applicants, 36 invites | dang, kind of bummed...x4|Feel like there will be plenty more rejections, remember only takes 1. No need to be bummed | truth. | That's what I keep reminding myself like a mantra: "It only takes one".is 500+ applicants a typical # for derm? for some reason i thought it was in the 400's usually | total # applicants last year was 614. Most applicants apply to as many programs as they can. 500 sounds reasonable... | o okay thx for the info
53
i wonder if 36 invites actually went out today, or if they will send invites as they review applications until they reach 36 | ya who knows....i would guess they send it all out at once, but i could be wrong | last year, all 36 went out on same day. unless someone cancels, dont expect any more | all 36 went out today. | Usually it's one batch, unless someone cancels (which does happen) and they go down their list to the next one or if someone that they maybe really know writing your letters calls in to sort of push for that candidate.the rejection email just arrived for wisconsin :( | x7 | First rejection. Only 100 more to go.... hahah | cest la vie
54
Anyone get a confirmation email from Wayne State? | Not yet. Kinda has me freaking out too.<---- did the Wayne State interview e-mail say how many applicants they had? | No | I now have confirmation from wayne state (10/17) | over 400 applicants. Rejection message through ERAS.
55
University of Texas San Antonio Sent out invites 10/3, just found this google doc
56
I like how they explain all the stats graphs from Outcomes | "Less than 6 ranks: 50% match rate, 6 or more ranks: 78% match rate, 10 or more ranks: 98% match rate" | Whoever found this Derm 2016 APD match review link, you da real MVP. I learned more from this than anything our Student Affairs people put out. x2 THANK YOU! | Thank you for the info! although at this point it's just strressful and I can't really change anythingn x3 | Probably helps more for future applicants lurking on this spreadsheet, for those who are considering a backup specialty and want to know their chances of matching while going thru the cycle this year with x number of interviews and have to decide what is the next stepThe Step2 ck score requirement of pass/target, do you think that's to interview or rank? | For the few programs that require Step 2 in order to be ranked, I would say kind of both, if u were to do way worse on Step 2 CK in comparison to Step 1, but it's not like we'll all be getting interviews at UCSF or Cleveland Clinic to be in that position anyways | Wonder if it's a screened rejection for those who didn't send step 2 w ERAS | No they required Step 2 to be ranked but not for interview selection, so you're fine not to have it now.
57
What does FAP mean for Tufts?Financial Assistance Program (military: http://medicineandthemilitary.com/military-physician-faq) | Tufts has it in other specialties too: http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Main-Match-Results-and-Data-2016.pdf | oops prob should have asked before applying | lol | You applied for both the advanced and the FAP spot? | yes haha
58
59
Anyone else get the CWRU questionnaire? | yep; did it go out to everyone?| had to of, looks like a way to weed out what apps to look at first? | app number same thing as ID number? yea | did they do this in previous years? | this was not a thing last yearAnyone not get it? | me, just kidding everyone did! | case why are you so lazy can't you look at the transcript my school uploaded? x3| They didn't include neurology. is that on purpose or in error? | Ya so my school has neurology too, I wanna put that in, but is it not like a nationwide required clerkship? | I think it is. i wanna put it in. lol. am emailing right now. | A lot of schools don't require neurology as a core clerkship. | Okay. I'll let you know if/when I get a response.
60
Good god you guys are neurotic. x10 | Imagine having some of these neurotics as co-residents - all over whether they should include a Neuro core rotation grade, as if it would turn into the Spanish Inquisition if you did. | The whole question didn't apply to me as I had deferred my Neurology rotation to my MS4 year, but, I still feel like I understand some of the neuroticism. I feel like Derm has become so insanely competitive lately that we are trained to worry about every single detail because even one minor error could be used to weed you out.^^on the bottom of the email they sent, they included what is considered "core:" OBGYN, Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics (so 6 total). I think neuro is exlcuded because at some places it may or not be a requirement and/or it is something taken anytime between 3rd and 4th year of med school, so it might not be core | Except even at CWRU, Neurology is one of their core rotations: https://casemed.case.edu/curriculum/education/ccr.cfm| lol | hmmm strange hopefully the person above ^ can post a response they get | Just FYI, in that CWRU link Psych & Neuro are combined into Core 3 so maybe that's why they didn't list NeuroOK. I guess I won't include neuro then... | If it's a core at your school, why not just include it anyways? Or is it a form you fill out? <- so maybe there was a screen for it | maybe this person is a already a derm, jsut lurking here with nothing else to do | More like a matched derm currently in a transitional year who hates the ER and just counting down the days to the light at the end of the tunnel & is finding an excuse to do anything but work, but thanks, I guess | worth it so far to do the TY? | Hell yes, so worth it and glad I didn't choose a prelim IM or prelim Gen Surgery year. I'm just being lazy this month lol. There's a way in the NRMP list to link up a TY if you were to match Derm and a prelim year if you don't match Derm when you get to putting together a rank list | second doing a TY over academic prelim. electives are nice
61
Rejected from UNC :D | Same x13 | In interesting news, 557 ppl applied to them this year. this might suggest the applicant pool is smaller this year. | Last year there were 532 people that applied to UNC per the spreadsheet... | ah ok, one can dream :P | Not going to lie, the smiley face made me chuckle. | kinda bummed, UNC seems coolwait listed at UNC x 15 <---- anyone know how many they waitlist?|I doubt anyone is coming off that waitlist x2 l they said in the waitlist email that typically 3 people come off it for an interview/ I was also waitlisted
62
UNC invite! CONGRATS x2 | thanks! I was really hoping for this one Pretty good odds, interview 30 for 6 spots | Wow, that's a lot of spots for 1 program| how do you know its 30 people? | says in the email
63
Anyone from the Northeast get a UNC invite? | from the NE and got waitlisted x6bout to have a beer and kickback. UNC rejection. suhhh dude <33 love this, I do what I can with what I got... no point in stressing over things out of our control x 3 | do they just throw a dart at the board or something i mean seriously how do they decide. who fucken knows..well all find a way | sometimes it's by hobbies or if a derm resident who looks over your app connects with a particular thing, no joke.
64
Here I am still waiting to hear from a prelim! x2 | how many did you apply to?|7 medicine 2 TY | Why? You get 20 applications for the same price|Geography reasonsdumb question but for people who got the interview did you have any connection to them or do you feel like anything grabbed their attention? - this is coming from a poor soul that was rejected :( | In my personal statement I said that I've always loved tar and turpentine (UNC Tarheels) and hated the Devil (Duke) and it worked. | nicely done
65
SDN Derm Election Voting: Clinton - x2 Trump - x2 <-- how tho | some people just want to watch the world burn | Well I guess so. Leave it to the hairy Cheeto to do it. | that hairy cheeto is more likely to destroy Obamacare than the harpy w/cankles | Does anyone else look at the hairy Cheeto and instantly think of NAFLD/cirrhosis? | If anyone is more likely to have cirrhosis it's HRC the enabler who fainted | I prefer Hills to the hairy Cheeto who touches married women inappropriately. Could you imagine that man trying to kiss you dear heavesn SPRAYYYYYY that away with the pepper spray on my keychain. | plot twist what if he can't "handle himself" around Putin's wife and starts WW3 | You forget HRC's rapist/sexual harassing husband would in the White House/ Her hubs isn't running for president though | Yeah, instead SHE goes after and smears the women her husband raped & sexually harassed. Kudos! | I mean they're both wrong but when you put the hairy Cheeto against anyone (and I mean anyone). Lol. Does one have to even think twice| Jesus can I have one place where I can avoid reading people's thoughts on the election?!? <-- No / It's just hard to fathom how people can be okay with the idea of a dude with zero political experience being president. There is a reason no former president has endorsed him; they know he's not cut out for the job. For the record, I am a republican voting HRC (lesser of two evils in my opinion). <-- Bless your heart, your logic, and your reasoning.
Johnson - x2
Stein - x0
LOL 2 | If you're a physician, Clinton definitely won't care about you. Unless you make a sizable donation to the Clinton Foundation |"grab her by the p@ssy". sorry if that's inappropriate language. but that's Trump | Yeah, unlike Bill Clinton who actually "grabs them by the pussy" and rapes them twice while his wife goes after his victims to smear their reputations. | You don't know what the hairy Cheeto did. Mels probably doesn't even know the beginning of it either. | This went downhill quickly. jumping ship
66
LMAO ^; this is one idea I can get on board with ^
67
Is it recommended to email prelim programs or call them if you are wanting to go somewhere out of state/ not your home program? Has anyone had any luck with this?Wondering this too.....anyone know of previous years experience? | I emailed a couple of programs where my significant other's family lives and got an interview the next day from one and an email saying I was a strong candidate from another
68
if you received an interview because you rotated at a school, how likely do you think they will consider you? Equally as others who received an interview and did not do an away there? | Probably highly dependent on how your rotation went | At quite a few places, it's common for outside rotators to do the interview during the month of their away rotation that you do with their program. The fact you were invited back during regular interview season means they probably really liked working with you (there are many instances where this is not the case, in which rotators don't get to come back for an interview there). Don't read too much into it, hold your head up high, you belong there just like everyone else who was invited. | I appreciate the encouraging words!Depends on the program. Some invite all rotators regardless as a courtesy. Some invite few rotators. | Depends how many senior year rotators going for derm there are in a given year. The reason many programs have rotators interview the month they are are actually rotating in (Jun thru August) is so that it doesn't cut into the 30 spots or so that they have later on in Dec/Jan, it additionally helps the rotator because they don't have to make 2 trips. It depends how much of an imposition it is for the program.
69
Hey guys - if you do a late away rotation, is there a way we can send it out to programs that are no longer accepting updates via ERAS? | What would you send exactly? Depending how late in the cycle it is, it's probably too late for letters when programs have already downloaded your app./ It was a strong derm letter from a pretty prominent dude but alas...you're probably right. | If you've already gotten the letter and it's been uploaded then you're fine. Right now is not too late as programs are still going thru applications so they'll check to see when your letters come back to complete your file. I'm assuming you already set a placeholder on the ERAS application for that person's letter./ I did. I was able to upload the letter to almost every program with the exception of the ones who have closed their app process. One of those was my first choice/dream program - Penn :( It was probably a long shot anywayWhy would other programs care if you did an away at an institution other than theirs? That should be more for yourself/getting in | I was advised to do an away rotation in an area of the country where I otherwise do not havve a strong connection to show interest; that could be a reason. | More to get into a specific program. Doesn't work at the top tiers, but can work in lower tiers. | I don't think that's the case, if anything it might hurt (why did you choose y uthat program over ours if you're in the area?) | From my talks with PDs (2) they understand that VISAS is fickle and ppl go where they are accpeted. I'm not saying it's a universally good reason to inform programs that you did an away in their region, but for us folks from 'odd' parts of the countly there is a strong emphasis on showing your willingness to move. | You mean VSAS right? | Programs understand you can't audition rotate everywhere. There are some programs in which none of the people who matched had ever rotated there. Don't read too much into thinking there will be hurt feelings just because the way VSAS is set up, not everyone can get a rotation a particular month, so people go to other choices.
70
to the person who put the counter in the interviews tab - you rock. thanks! ... agree! | :) took the idea from last year's spreadsheet yup another good reminder im 0/6; DERM BABY | Best part is when your classmates tell you you're for sure gonna get tons of interviews... >> | Be patient. It's so hard to tell how things are going to go this early on in the process. I spoke to someone a year ahead who is now at a top 10 Derm program who didn't even receive any invites to any programs until November.
71
On the Michigan website, they say the interview is 12/16-12/17 - does that probably mean dinner on 12/16 and the actual interview day on 12/17? | From website "Tours and important information is provided on Friday afternoon, along with a faculty reception. There is a dinner with current residents on Friday evening. Interview day begins early on Saturday and lasts all day, with each applicant meeting individually with many interviewers." Thank you!! Missed that, somehow.Saturday interview = so clutch| last year it started early afternoon the first day then ended mid day or later depending on what wave interview group you were in on saturday
72
Did anyone get invited to Wake Forest yet or did they only send out rejections so far? | Did you get a rejection email today? | no why would that be your assumption | How else would you know they sent out rejections? | because they have previously sent out rejectionsWhat are you talking about? In previous years or in this cycle?
73
The spreadsheet has a lot of dates listed that are seemingly not coming from invites or program's websites...where are these coming from? Some are from last year....just guesses for this year | If they are guesses then keep them off the page. We could take all of last year's dates and paste them but it would be stupid to do so. Only type them in if you get it in an email invite or it's on their residency website.| It's pretty clear which ones are actual interview dates, unless you think people are getting interviews w/o invites | I'm referring to the comment that says "some are from last year/just guesses for this year" |Clearly those are not from this year, invites weren't sent out from those programs- agree that if those are insider info for this year that it should be highlighted | All the more reason not to put last year's information into this year's spreadsheet |It helps people w multiple interviews w scheduling to see how they did it last yr | The problem is it also confuses people wondering if it's the dates for this year, unless it's highlighted or in a different color so people know it's not this year's date. Programs don't necessarily use the exact same timing of dates.| If an interview invite wasn't sent assume its not from info from this year.Put up a calendar - all dates are either from the website or from DIG calendar | Apparently not all of them. That's why someone asked about Northwestern's dates that were there which didn't come from the website, not on the DIG calendar, & no invites yet given |
74
In case people want to check, the national student DIGA website has an Interview calendar which lets you arrange things by month, date, by state, and by program -->http://interviews.derminterest.org/Trust these dates? Some of those programs haven't posted dates on their websites | It's possible that programs are letting DIGA know since they are a national official student group in Derm. | Let's all just keep official dates (in an invite or on a program's website) on this spreadsheet then to avoid confusion. People can check DIGA on their own accord. Also mad props to the person who made the calendar :) | Yeah, I agree. I think that's best personally. The Interviews tab on this spreadsheet should only be updated from people's official interview invites or from the residency program website. People can always click on the DIGA link when they want. | dates from this calendar are on point when i applied last year
75
I totally forgot to submit UMass supplement until today. It's probably too late, right? | nothing to lose by trying | They didn't put a deadline so they can't hold it against you!
76
Anyone have experience using skiplagged for plane tickets?a miles credit card is also a great option... i saved so much money in scheduling a last minute flight using miles instead of dollars. #worthit. | Yup, Southwest Airlines credit card to accrue free miles from all residency interview flights was so worth it.
77
anyone know what happened to the attendings at baylor dallas? 2 of them are no longer of menter's practice website | Is this not an accurate faculty list? http://www.baylorhealth.edu/Education/gradmeded/Residencies/Dermatology/Pages/Faculty.aspx | Menter's practice no longer lists drs ryan and griffin. http://www.texasderm.com/staff.html | Ryan appears here: http://menterderm.com/medical-staff/dr-caitriona-ryan/. Maybe Dr. Ryan does mainly research but is still part of residency program?
78
Would people mind if we hide the first like 50 rows? It's getting hard to scroll down on my phone x3How would u hide it? honestly i prefer not to delete any rows | No, don't hide the first 50 rows, then people will start asking the same questions since they can't see what was asked before. Stay logged in, and keep it in the background of your iPhone | In past years it was moved to a 'chitchat archive' whenever it got too congested. We may be getting to that point. | Moved to archive, feel free to move back if people prefer it the other way | sorry i accidentally deleted the other box :( was trying to say that I prefer the chat archived
79
New calendar tab looks very nice. Thx | Yes, whoever added and cleaned up the calendar did a fantastic job!
80
81
This waiting game is KILLLNG me xeveryoneapplying
82
Wayne state rejection email x14 | was that through eras? | Yes, it mentions over 400 apps received and all invites have been sent | weird I wasn't invited or rejected...this is henry ford/wayne state? | Wayne State University | oh ok I didnt apply there lol | did it say how many they are interviewing? | Not in the rejection messageWayne State and Henry Ford are different programs
83
I've not recieved any rejections, even from schools that I applied to and and others have been rejected from; anyone else have the same experience or thoughts on the meaning? | it could be a good thing? double check to see all your documents are assigned. | Wayne state rejection email specifically said they had already sent out all invites | I have one interview so I know my documents went out OK, but radio silence on every other program they usually will keep a few people in limbo in case someone cancels an interview
84
The step 2 ck deadline for CCF is 10/30/2015.. does anyone know what they actually mean? | I, too, am curious about this. I thnk it was described as a recommended rather than a hard deadline, though. My memory might be failing me, so don't quote me on that. | http://my.clevelandclinic.org/florida/sitecore/content/Sites/ClevelandClinic/Home/services/dermatology-plastic-surgery/for-medical-professionals/dematology-residencies-fellowships - "We strongly encourage completion of Step 2 CK USMLE test prior to the close of our deadline on October 30, 2015" | I'm having trouble wrapping my head around 2015, 2016 might make more sense... | Yeah, I think they forgot to change the year to update for this cycle.Think it's worth updating the USMLE Transcript in ERAS just for CCF? My Step 2 CK is in the same range as my Step 1, but I have been hesitating for some reason because it's not a groundbreaking score by any standard. | I would do it like much later after your CCF interview when no one is checking ERAS anymore but so that CCF has your Step 2 CK score so you can still be ranked.
85
UNiversity of Iowa invitation! x3| Another rejection! =D Did they actually send a rejection letter yet? x2 | I recieved rejections from all the others but an interview from this program so keep your heads up!! super random x3| did they say how many invites and applicants| No :( | do all these invites go out at once or are people likely to still here invites from Iowa?| last year all invites sent same day and rejection came a couple months later. so even if you don't hear from them today, seems like expect the rejection Univ of Iowa dates are Nov 10 & 29, and Dec 7 FYI. I'm too dumb to figure out the calendar ;-;
86
Did anyone from the Northeast get an Iowa interview? I'm from and went to school in NE and feel like I'm not getting love from these southern/midwest schools.| Yes from the NE and received one, but I've gotten rejected from the other Midwest programs | Iowa is a really great Derm program by the way, just FYI. | lol ok thanks? | what makes it great? | I wasn't being snarky. I was being serious. Not all derm programs are great (i.e. VCU or UIC) esp. when comes to resident training & how happy the residents really are w/their program & training. The culture of your program matters, the faculty and how much they teach/not teach & how they treat residents in their clinics matters, how good your program is at teaching Dermpath matters. All I was saying is that Iowa is a well-rounded, growing program and it's not even a Top 10 program, so to get an interview from there is a good sign. | is that you iowa? | LOL. Good one! More like someone who enjoyed interviewing there and how down-to-earth everyone was. | What was the interview like? Was the format pretty standard?Going to ask what others also may be thinking—what makes you specifically mention VCU and UIC? As someone not from those regions it would be great to get some honest inside knowledge of the programs, especially since last year’s spreadsheet had generally positive things to say about those | Last year's spreadsheet had pretty bad things to say about the derm program at UIC-Chicago (in comparison to other Illinois programs - UChicago Pritzker, Northwestern, etc.) - faculty turnover, unhappy residents, etc. so that's actually pretty accurate| What about VCU, I have heard good things from people who rotated? | Not the person from before, but VCU went unfilled for 1 spot (out of 2) this past match, I also think in last year's spreadsheet there was a concern about not so great Dermpath but that was being addressed by the program. I don't know if it ended up being corrected. Just goes to show how different things can be when you're rotating as a med student vs. actually being a resident there. | Was wondering the same thing since I was just looking at last years interview impressions and both places were called out for residents having fun/being happy...but that was based off one day I guess though so who knows..? | I was referring to the chitchat tab where people who interviewed at UIC were actively discussing programs and/or interview days not the Interview impressions page which come from 1 random person | can someone who actually rotated at UIC chime in? | How would a med student kissing ass while rotating at UIC to get a letter add anything to this discussion?
87
Hi everyone who is nervous about not getting interviews just yet! A close friend of mine is a PGY3 and she is part of her program's selection committee. She said to NOT worry at all, as most programs start sending out invitations after Thanksgiving! Hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy the fall weather :) | thanks for being so nice :) <- Derm Angel | I hope this helps keep perspective! My friends who have matched didn't hear back really til really late. One of them said he got 20+ rejections before he even got his first invitation for our home program, and it was late November / early December! But the tides will change given the time. You all are spectacular (and are the reason why it's competitive!), so I wouldn't stress it at all :)
88
^ I concur. I went through all this chaos last match cycle, and I stumbled back on this spreadsheet because I remember how much I relied on it last year and how completely torturous this entire process was. There are SO many more interviews to roll in, so don't give up hope! I know waiting is really the worst, but it is so worth it! Also I was a reapplicant last year, so I actually endured 2 round of torture. Still worth it :-) I'm here for ya. Also you guys seem to be a lot nicer to each other than last year's spreadsheet (wolves, seriously) so you've got that goin for ya | congrats on your match!! x4, really happy for your wonderful success :)

Is it too late to get a letter of recommendation from an away rotation? Do people think that enough places have downloaded the application that it would be hard to add another letter in? | if you only have 3 then there's no harm. Many programs are just starting or will soon begin reviewing applications. | ERAS allows you to see what has and has not been downloaded by programs. I would just add the letter as your #4, and the ones that haven't downloaded it, you can just contact them letting them know an LOR was added so they can download it.| <--how do you tell if a program downloaded something??X2 | Look at ADTS (Applicant Document Tracking System) thru ERAS - http://medschool.ucla.edu/workfiles/site-Current/Resources/Residency/ERAS-UsingMyERAS.pdf - "ADTS details the status of documents submitted to the ERAS PostOffice. ADTS lists each program to which the applicant has applied, the date each document was uploaded by the designated dean’s office, and the date programs downloaded each document." | they just all say "Available - 09/15/2016" |Do you see something on ADTS like this?: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hp4SIwyIFDE/TVbabk76MtI/AAAAAAAADAU/x-V_SKQL0Gc/s640/adts.JPG | no | Then look harder. It's under MyERAS. I doubt your application hasn't been downloaded by any program. | can someone explain how to do it? When I search ADTS on the ERAS website literally nothing comes up. | Pretty sure whoever is telling you to use this is an old applicant because we don't have access to that service anymore. | Ya, Eras doesn't even look like that anymore. We don't have access to that info | ADTS is a part of ERAS, it's not separate from it. ADTS is also STILL in MyERAS 2017 which you can see here from BU: https://www.bumc.bu.edu/busm/files/2016/07/myeras-overview-ppt2017-sdn-edits.pdf | that's not how ERAS looks anymore | The ERAS handout for 2017 from BU above includes ADTS on it for tracking documents. | but it isn't updated with screenshots from how ERAS currently looks so.. | If you look at the 2017 ERAS BU link above, you can go to Page 4 and see the tiny letters ADTS, next to Logout on the screenshot, that appears at the top right hand corner (where it's always been) under MyERAS. | Please give this up, that is NOT what ERAS looks like anymore. ADTS is not there. Stop saying to look harder. It's not there.

so who here has been reading this spreadsheet since M1 year? | I could be wrong, but I think this Google spreadsheet idea started in 2014-2015 with PatsyStone, so those people would be M3s now and apply next year | uhhh have people seriously been reading this spreadsheet since they were M1s?!x2 | If they are, I don't know what use it would really do for them, since none of the info was really M1 or M2 centric. I guess if you like to experience other people's panic attacks

For people getting interviews at "random" locations (e.g. cali applicant getting Iowa or Wisconsin) did you have any ties there, write a specific PS line, or do an away rotation nearby?I think med school tier/home derm program tier (assuming you have a good relationship with them) has a good influence in those cases. | Can anyone confirm? | Had none of the above, yet got an invite at a random location | killer stats/research? | Makes sense with the "Percentage who graduated from one of the 40 U.S. medical schools with the highest NIH funding" stat on Outcomes who ended up matching. In the unmatched pool of U.S. seniors, only 17% were from a Top 40 school. | He/she just said thats not the case | A Top 40 school is not necessarily a top tier school and I'm not saying it's a steadfast rule in every case. Clearly 60% who matched weren't from a Top 40 school | What would you call the top 40, bottom tier? | Miami Miller is #44 on USWNR, but has a top tier derm program so there definitely are exceptions. | going to school with top tier derm program trumps top tier school due to connections in the field. still very advantageous coming from top 10 school. | Yes, that was the point I was getting at by bringing up Miami Miller as an exampleDid anything stand out in ur app (scores, research)? | Probably a 275 STEP I and co-wrote Bolognia <---- lol | I've got 2 interviews already from completely random locations (neither of which are near where I'm from or go to school) and I do not have anywhere near a 270 or have written anything in Bolognia lol seems like this whle process is extremely arbitrary | did you write a specific line in your PS? | nope | at a few programs, residents also go thru applications as well | Ya I know a lot of programs def incorporate resident feedback on applications, who knows how much input they actually have on interview, though?? Just going to be a long waiting game :( but still like 100 programs left to send out invites lol, we've got this!

University of Texas San Antonio - Pretty much rejection e-mail received 10/24 x 14 | weird, this one didn't go to my email, I had to look in myeras. Hope i don't have to obsessively check that now, too | Make sure it doesn't go to your spam folder (yes, it's happened) and set it up to where any automated email thru ERAS goes to your inbox and not Spam/Junk Email. | I ended up getting it, but two hours after the ERAS message was received. Only time this has happened - hopefully it's not a trend shit idk how I did that ha, well awesome , look forward to meeting you guys and gals. I've heard awesome things about Uiowa. did you apply to their prelim program? I know other programs allow you to interview to both same day, anybody know? | It varies in terms of how often the prelim and advanced program are connected with each other in terms of interview dates

What does internal vs. external mean on the interview spreadsheet? | internal means the program is affiliated with the student's medical school | Internal invites = interview invites for home students; External invites = interview invites for applicants who aren't from the home medical school. Some programs separate out internal invite dates vs. external invite dates. How are you guys preparing for interviews? Any good resources out there? | 48 laws of power | --> "The book is a bestseller, selling over 1.2 million copies in the United States, and is popular with prison inmates and celebrities." |Trump's art of the deal | This is what I found just by typing "derm residency interview questions" in the Google: https://www.ohsu.edu/xd/education/schools/school-of-medicine/academic-programs/md-program/student-affairs/upload/Questions-I-got-during-my-residency-Interviews.pdf and Joyce Park's Derm blog: http://www.teawithmd.com/2015/11/the-path-to-md-dermatology-interviews/Did someone actually write that "Trump's art of the deal" is actually how they prepped for interviews? LOL | Clearly some people like that person who did that have to bring politics into everything. | "Listen, I'm the best derm candidate out there. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it." | I'm tremendous. No one is better at derm than me, no one. Trust me" |Its simple, I'm going to make dermatology great again. | I'm pretty sure that person was joking

Just FYI for all of you waiting, most derm invites come around Thanksgiving (both the week before and after) but as late as early January. So be patient. I'm a PGY-2 and I know our programs is just starting to review applications (and we interview in December). | <- Why are they so mean? Some of us have spouses :( | What do you mean by "mean"? They're reviewing applications. They're not interviewing during Christmas week. Thanks!

Is there a prelim/TY interview date swap page? | Haven't heard from PY/TY programs one way or another

Rejected from Wake via ERAS, letter attached x4 | Anotha one | any details in the letter? Still no invites? | when? i didnt get reject ... yet -> this morning | Did the letter say anything? | nope, just 500 applicaitons for 3 spots |

Now offering 4 slots this year x6 | Another rejection I guess :( x1 as DJ Khaled would say... anotha oneAre you guys from the west coast? | west coast perma resident no invite :/ |West coast resident and went to med skool on the east coast got invite | West coast applicant here, but I also got a east coast invite so I wouldn't read too much into geography

Loma Linda, almost thought I had an interview <-- why | Is anyone applying to the rural track lol | Did anyone not get their message? x4 | I'm assuming I got it cuz I applied to both tracks | you can't apply to both | yes, I realize that now - I meant that I clicked both boxes on the app | So then everyone got it --- I didn't get any message from Loma Linda x4 | Does anyone know if the rural track resident is limited to Michigan for the 3 years after residency, or would other rural/underserved areas in other states be fair game? Basically I am curious why they specifically want us to stay in Michigan (although the letter doesn't specifically state any particular location in MI?) | The coordinator specified Michigan, and I believe it may be because of a grant? They work closely with a population there. | is anyone else having trouble seeing the attachment? | From what I understand, and I certainly may be wrong, the practice in Michigan that you work at for the rural portion directly contributes funds towards that residency spot.
