Not enough space for the indisciplined cyclists and dog walkers!
4
Do not use buses but going on friend's remarks.
1
Too many cars and too much traffic to control on our too few main roads.
1
Lots of empty unloved small buildings in the centre or nearby and rubbish everywhere.
2
The Greenway has now become a no-go area for older people.
2N/A4
The places I use are only adequate.
2Again n/a for the older people.4N/A4
Only in our lovely cafes which are few and far between.
3
Not what it was 40 years ago.
5
Being central certainly feels safer than on the outskirts.
1
We desperately need street cleaners and more refuse collection and dog mess is an always ongoing problem.
2Not reallyTraffic and parking Street cleaning Shop front improvementMore policemen on the beat and many more street cleaners.

The roads are fine no problem. There is no room for a cycle way in Heckmondwike.
1
You can’t get to Batley from Roberttown now or Dewsbury. There was a bus stop outside the comrades club which they have stopped using. This stop was much better for people going on Union rd as if they go to Morrison’s or the health centre they wouldn’t have to walk to the hub. If you need the toilet you have to go to Morrison’s.
66
Parks are a good thing. Silly question about buildings and streets. You wouldn’t have a town without them.
2
I live in Roberttown village which is very nice providing Kirklees don’t build any more houses. I would hate to live in Heckmondwike as it’s a very depressing place. The park in Heckmondwike is nice but it lacks flowers.
344441
If Heckmondwike was nicer I would spend more time there. Too many empty shops.
331
Kirklees ask your opinion after they have decided what to do. If they listened to what people want and stop wasting money on things we don’t want it would be much better.
Fill empty shops and the council listen to the people.Make it reasonable for people to rent shops.it will never change unless a lot of the-councillors leave and we get people who care about the area.

To make the community a better place.
1
Main road is not safe for pedestrians crossing.
1
Unreliable, sparse access to many destinations through public transport.
5
Too much traffic for such a small town, but there is a lot off accessible parking.
2
There is a lot of potential for the the green park to be a nice place to be but it is very neglected. Most of the shops are very run down.
6
The green way is perfect for the above reasons but it is unsafe to be on your own and it's hard to walk on when there are speeding cyclists.
6
When the new sports centre is open this improve.
4
Not enough shops and places to eat to offer a more varied choice.
3
There is not enough business to offer people full time jobs.
6
Yes I think there is a lot of housing available to offer everyone a home.
5
I think more surrport could be offered to people in regards to mental health.
1
I think a lot of history & identity been lost . Examples the Christmas light & local history.
1
No CCTV for crime, no police presence.
1
Poor maintenance everywhere.
1
No I think most things never improve and probably won't improve.
If the main road was made safer it would greatly improve people's safety. Cars always push through the crossing blocking a safe path for pedestrians in front of the bus hub. Also a better scheme to cut down on crime. Maybe a better maintained town would bring more people into the centre as there is a lot of people living in the area that probably never visit it because it's so run down.
Maintaince of buildings , park & areas. Maybe a fighting crime scheme . Definitely a main road improvement. Maybe encourage more business to come back to the town centre.

Community Consultation
4
The Greenway and Ringway are good walking routes but more could be done in the town centre .The recent waste of money that the Council has spent on the main road to create another A638 crossing because people were too lazy to walk to designated safe crossing points could have been used elsewhere such as joining the Ringway to the Greenway south of the Town centre to make a longer walk
5
I find public transport generally meets my needs and are pretty reliable. Being reasonably mobile I can easily access bus stops for now . The buses could be of better quality as they are not a patch on the ones that Transdev operate.
4
The council car parks are not ideally located for people with limited mobility issues and they probably have to use Morrisons
3
There are very few positive features in Heckmondwike other than the park. All the town centre buildings look tired and could do with a face lift. You cannot enjoy Heckmondwike at night.
5
Only on the Greenway and Ringway
1
There are very few reasonable places in Heckmondwike for play and recreation.
5
For my purposes the facilities are Ok
4
Being retired for 10 years I have no feel for this question
4
Again don't know sufficient about this aspect to comment.
5
There are some Restaurants and Cafes not to mention pubs where people can meet and socialise as well as benches in the park. I feel that people do not mix.
3
I don't think people are aware of the History of the place and therefore do not consider it in a positive light. I am not aware of any local groups to help with promotion of the place.
5
I believe that Heckmondwike is a reasonably safe place for all people.
4
The Park is reasonably looked after but litter is a problem throughout the Town As far as I know apart from home collections the only recycling I am aware of is at Morrisons.
2
The only way local people can have a say is through the ballot box and then ignored by their MP and counsellors.
Kirklees council does not rate North Kirklees and only concentrates on Huddersfield.Create a smaller body to make all the decision about local areas and delegate the responsibility away from Huddersfield.

Public transport is good when they turn up. What we need is drivers that will turn up for the bus they are driving.

There is too many cars come through Heckmondwike it is awful crossing by Fultons.
3
There is too many empty shops in Heckmondwike so people passing through will not stop.

The Greenway is good but dark, dirty and lonely. Wouldn't walk on there, only in a group.
2
Heckmondwike has got a bus station but its open to the weather. Buses are great only if they are on time and turn up. No railway station, no shops , not market and no banks. We used to have everything.
1
In Heckmondwike there isn't enough parking only at Supermarkets, but you don't want to park as there is nothing to park up for.
1
We don't have much of the above and people can't wait to get through this town. We always had the best lights at Christmas but they have all gone. When I was younger I used to travel from Leeds to see them and do my shopping.
1
No No No to everything. Thing selling is in the middle with the band stand but nothing else. BIG FAT NO!
1Not a lot at all2
The only thing that is near is Morrisons thats if you don't over park so its either shop or eat.

a) There are not enough routes for cycling but its hard to see how there can be in a congested town centre b) Walking has been made safer recently by metal fences before an accident prone zebra crossing in the town centre. However, it does look unsightly c) Perhaps routes to shops, parks, libraries could be improved d) The bus hub is a great advantage e) Routes are safe if properly used f) Seating in the town is very useful
6
a) Public transport seems frequent in some areas and reliable b) They take people where they want to go c) Transport seems safe and easy to access and the bus has flexibility of wheelchair access d) Most stops are convenient but there is no transport in the Cornmill area into town e) Most bus and train stations (except Heckmondwike bus hub) have parking f) I don't know if everyone can afford the fares g) As a rule the facilities and vehicles are of good quality and well maintained. Heckmondwike hub could be improved but is reasonable at present (there are no toilets)
2
a) I do not drive so this is my view based on that b) People do not take priority, there is noise but I'm not sure about air quality, which doesn't seem too bad. c) Heckmondwike is congested, perhaps because of its design as a small mill town and many sets of traffic lights but it's hard to see how this could be improved. I hope it can
3
a) The public clock and car park are pleasant enough b) The park is an asset but could be enhanced with more bright flowers c) Closed and shuttered shops do not enhance the town
3
a) The parks are the only natural spaces and people opportunity to play bowls, tennis and youngsters to enjoy the play area. This could be improved. b) There is noise, of course mad by volume of traffic c) I think these spaces are available to everyone
3
I am disabled and have not visited the play area in Firth Park lately. I would think possibly there is a need for provisions for teenagers and children with disabilities.
3
a) We have the GP's and dentists we need. There is Morrisons for shopping and other retailers in the town. I cannot comment on amenities to meet up but I think the Comrades Club provides a meeting place. The library doe good work. There are places of worship for people to meet. There are pubs for people who like a drink. There may be others I don't know about.. everything is fairly central. It isn't the entertainment hotspot of the north.
2
a) There are some medium sized firms in the area, plus retail shopping town, whether they offer skills training, I don't know. I imagine Kirklees education centre will supply skills training. There is a job centre about a mile away on a frequent bus route. I don't know about affordable childcare. b) There are empty shops in the town so I assume people can start up new businesses. However Morrisons seems to provide so much, it could be a barrier for further business. New starters and encouragers help. Traditionally this is an area of low pay but improving with the national wage.
4
a) A mix of housing from new builds and terrace to even pre fabs. There are houses to rent with private landlords and KMC. I would say there is a good quality of houses but perhaps they could be more affordable council dwellings for families. b) The different housing estates seem to work well together as far as I am aware. c) I'm not sure people can change their accommodation as their needs change
2
a) Meeting places, cafes, churches, pubs, working mens clubs. The central park in Heckmondwike in summer when people sit out. Bowling green, tennis courts, Morrisons cafe. There could be meeting places in the Mosque. There is nothing purpose built to my knowledge. b) People from different backgrounds sit in the park in fine weather. I don't know of any specific place where people from different backgrounds can meet up except the library
3
a) I view Heckmondwike positively. It has a history of hard working people of all backgrounds. I find great kindness from people as I am disabled. There is always a helping hand. b) I think the library helps people to get to know Heckmondwike's history but I'm not sure how widely it's history, heritage is known. c) I don't think some people will feel connected to their neighbours or community d) I don't know how everyone else feels they belong. I can only speak for myself. Probably more needs to be done to be fully inclusive
4
a) Routes - in the town there are crossings to help us be safe. In my area, behind Morrisons where there are tunnels, they could be made safer with lighting and a look at traffic flow to make it safer still. (Corn mill area) b) I think there is some anti-social behaviour in the town c) As far as I know, this area seems safe enough d) More police patrols would help
3
a) Public spaces, on the whole seem well maintained. Litter is a problem on Beck Lane, especially near the tunnel onto Corn mill Lane b) Recycling and refuse storage. There are recycling bins at Morrisons c) The bin collection is excellent where I live d) Not all residents take their responsibilities seriously eg. litter etc e) To my knowledge there is not a local residents association in this area
3
a) we can contribute to decisions that affect us via our local councillor and MP on NWP transport board b) I don't think some groups of people who's first language isn't English will find matters easy c) If local community groups allow people to get involved via the internet, then I think that leaves a lot of the population out d) I don't know how local authorities , health services or housing associations actively work with the community to understand needs. The local press helps and the occasional survey in doorstep surgeries assists e) I don't feel local people feel listened to

I walk to local park in Millbridge and also into the park in Heckmondwike.
5
I use the buses regularly but need them to get back to good timetables. Covid/driver shortage is having a negative effect on good availability. Hopefully normal service will resume shortly! Transport from my home to anywhere is really important to me and I would love to see a constant improvement.
4
Parking OK for Heckmondwike due to Morrisons store. Other designated car spaces soon get full. (More buses running locally would eleviate some of the problem though).
4
I like Heckmondwike town centre. It's not a 'pretty' or interesting town, but the central park area draws people in summer to sit and have a coffee. I don't require venues to go to in an evening, so I can't comment on that.
4
Flush Park could be made more amenable by spending money on the site ie seating, coffee shops, making it more of a meeting place for families, elderly for example.
2
Not much recreation at all
2
Not sure about what facilities and amenities are available in town.
2
Don't have any comments regarding work or how our local economy functions. I've retired.
2
Would like a choice of homes for the elderly. As with all councils we don't have enough of older peoples living accommodation.
2
Would love more places to socialise during the day time hours. Many senior citizens could meet regularly somewhere for tea/coffee and may be free advice on technology (tv, laptop, mobile etc and may be some craft activiites to join in ) A large enough venue could be sectioned off into different areas for people to mix with others doing something of interest. A cost could be charged to cover getting in anyone able to advise on security as an older person and current scams doing the round. Charges could be made for drinks and a light lunch. I could go on for sometime on this request but time to move on!
4
No score provided - average score given I feel my identity is waning as I grow older. I still belong in Heckmondwike but feel I only have things in common with my own age group. Community for me is fragmented and I don't fit in with other groups usually due to age and culture now.
5
I feel safe enough in Heckmondwike but I don't venture out in the evenings.
3
Could do with public toilet facilities 'monitored'.
4
No score provided - average score given Never made any decisions about my local area but I also don't complain about things. May be because I am the age I am, I feel I've left it a bit late to get involved.

Very few routes for walking and cycling with other traffic taking advantage. We live at Bar House junction of A62 Leeds/Huddersfield Road. Traffic on A62 travels in excess of speed limit (day & night) Has stationary traffic at peak times and area used as drop off for Spen High school in Roberttown without any crossing control or speed camera. These routes give no allowance to age or mobility because of speeds. Age and mobility problems remain a fear. We have experienced far too many pedestrian accidents in the last 20 years through speed.
4
No comment , don't use public transport. Not suitable to us, we are both in our 80's and disabled
1
Community needs are ignored by priority taken by traffic speed on a black spot without effective enforcement of traffic calming of 30mph being broken 90% day and night
2
Very nice area BUT volume and speed of traffic don't allow access
12
There are there but very difficult to get to by distance in safety from traffic
3
Some used as without option or choice
4Retired 18 years ago1
Mixing different race tend to be located together which causes problems. In this area they seem to mix well with very little problems including Spen High School
3
School, shopping, public transport including taxis, food, takeaway mixed diets. Highways, pubs etc
3
Some are isolated by choice
3
Town centre I don't know, own area could improve if ethnic groups were less defensive and tried to mix better
1
Kirklees council to black & nat government Covid19 causing cut backs - time will tell
4
The current Covid-19 lockdown is used as an excuse for most ineffective parts of community life and people not using their votes in elections. Its a matter of self survival, he who shouts loudest is heard
