How does my past im/migration shape who I am and who I can be in the future, and how does knowing about my community change me? In this project, we will explore these questions, and tell the story of how we came to be San Leandro residents. Our project will culminate in a community reading and display of all the migration stories and maps, so all of us can learn and reflect about our school community. This will be accomplished via research and interviews. (project credit: Adela Arriaga) Our journeys will also be symbolized by artistic representations of the monarch butterfly (the "mascot" of San Leandro)

Students will learn about our justice system, its effectiveness, and its limitations. They will be required to explain the physics concepts we are studying and will have the option to explain their opinions about our justice system and convicted criminals. Students wishing to send their letters will be allowed to do so. We will take a small portion of several lessons to accomplish these tasks. We will share our experiences with students by presenting what we learned and potentially sharing letters from inmates with their permission.Check to see if the motto can be shortened.

8Science ClubMr. Rea; Florencio Barrera, Vanessa VillagranTuesdays at Lunch“Science literacy is the artery through which the solutions of tomorrow's problems flow.”
- Neil deGrasse Tyson
We will plan a district-wide science fair focusing on elementary and middle schools. The science fair will be introduced in science classes across San Leandro, and students will create science fair projects. The schools will hold individual science fairs, and the top students will present their projects at a combined science fair in March. The winner will receive a prize (TBD).

In less privileged communities, STEM is often not given the recognition it deserves. By encouraging science education and experimentation, we hope to give students the opportunities they need to succeed in STEM.
