PURPOSE: To confirm that the horse demonstrates correct basics, and having achieved the thrust required in First Level, now accepts more weight on the hindquarters (collection); moves with an uphill tendency, especially in the medium gaits; and is reliably on the bit. A greater degree of straightness, bending, suppleness, throughness, balance and self-carriage is required than at First Level.RIDER #6213

Lovely turnout.. thank you!!!!!
Instructions for the camera person: In landscape : keep the horse in the last 1/3 of the camera ( 2/3 of the view ahead of the horse) this allow judge or trainer to see where the horse is going and to have depth perception. Use zoom.. horse should be kept feet in the lower half of the screen and horse to zoom so that horse uses approx 1/3 of the screen .. otherwise not big enough to evaluate well for you. :):_)

Turn left

Shoulder-in left
Angle, bend and balance; engagement and quality of trot428above the bit/ only neck bend no angle shown .. this being second level : in the directives at the top of the test it explains that the horse must be "RELIABLY ON THE BIT" . NO MATTER IF THE HORSE DOES A SHOULDER IN OR NOT .. IF IT IS NOT ON THE BIT IT WILL BARELY GET A 5.. for your horse this means round to the bridle ; closed at the poll giving in the jaw. additionally collection is powerful and so very active impulsion as well as a very round frame is needed .

General impression: I see that this pair is comfortable with each other. this horse must be on the bit to be able to work and perform at this level. As a trainer I would suggest some cross training to get this horse to give in the poll and jaw, Long lining, or lunging with side reins can often re-train or remind a horse to come round again. rider may need to be clear about 1/2 halts. collection requires a lot of energy and impulsion. riders must have good seat and position to have the legs on correctly and must have hands together and steady enough to be round.. if you have never used side reins on this horse then you may need professional supervision.. at this point more transitions with shorter reins and more elastic contact may help.. but the score from this level up REQUIRE their horse to be on the bit. You can do this.. keep going! I gave you a link to how to correct chair seat exercises....
