Lamesha JohnsonFall 2019
Single mom of straight A honor roll 6th grader Elijah. Lamehsa wants to pursue medical coding, and has started her applications for some schools and scholarships. She paused school during Covid as her son had to be home but she wants to get back into it. Lamesha has some work history gaps, as she found it hard to maintain work without discrimination and hardship, as she has cochlear implants and reads lips, but is hard of hearing. Her goals include receiving medical coding certificate, finding Full time employment, raising credit score, paying off debt, starting college fund for Elijah. She wants to move into her own place ASAP but needs the income first. Lamesha is a believer and desires to grow in christian community and fellowship. Paula WilliamsSpring 2020Sudden guardian of 4 grandkids, Paula moved to Gilpin right before the pandemic. She is very involved with STEP, very active with getting the kids into better schools and opportunities and has some dream programs she wants to offer the community. Her personal goals are to get ALL 4 kids in the same school (preferbly Anna Juila Cooper), find them stimulating after school activiites as the kids are all very gifted artists, and writers. Then she wants to work Full time as a receptionist, or at a front desk. She is extremely reliable and caring. Main roadblock is she needs to find flexible work in case something happens with one of the kids and she has to get them or stay home with them (or find a reliable and affordable daycare). The kids are two 2nd graders, and 2 5th graders (ages 8, 9, 10 & 11). She also needs someone who can walk alongside her & the kids journey to a better school as mentioned. Paula is a believer, and is looking for a church to attend with a good kids program. She also is looking for parenting tips or classes, and a great mentor fit would be someone who is a parent or now a grandparent, and who can come beside her in raising the kids. A family around her would also be great!Viktoria- 11 years (5th grade), Javari-10 years (5th grade), Taz- 9 years (2nd grade), Marley- 8 years (2nd grade)Front desk/receptionist Joane FrancisLee Hatcher & Laura

Calmetha WardSpring 2020Calmetha has suddenly found herself in a lonely place where her daughter is running around with the wrong crowd and is no longer welcomed in her home, her husband has just left her, and her teenage son doesn't want much to do with her. She found employment after graduation and worked there for 8 months, then was let go. Her pain in her arm got worse, and she turned to alcohol. She had some dark moments toward the latter half of 2020 and early 2021, but she has since regained herself. She has now had 14 surgeries on her hand, and she is almost back to normal in terms of pain. She is fighting her temptation to drink, and she is searching for a counselor to help with the depression. Calmetha is one of the most open, honest and reslient women we have met. She is a strong beleiver who has not had much discipleship, so she struggles reading the Word and understanding it, but she asks great questions. A great mentor for her would be someone who is patient, who wants to spend time with her, and who can include her in a bible study or spiritual development. She is always ready to serve and give back her time. She deserves someone who will see her for her and desire to be a good friend. 16 year old son (10th grade)Unknown at this timeSheila Marsh

Kiocia WilkersonFall 2020
Kiocia is a mother of 4, two teenagers and two brand new twins who are about to turn one. Kiocia is incredibly hard working, and has kept a job during the pandemic to bring in some extra income, WHILE raising the kids on her own. The father of all 4 kids is not in the picture at the moment, and has made things more difficult when he is, in terms of Kiocia pursuing her dreams. Kiocia has great people skills, admin skills and when the kids are in daycare, she can be available to work part time or full time in school hours. She has reliable transportation. Her goals include to get her twins affordable quality daycare, find Full time work working with people specifically in a life coach field. Her son requires extra care and attention as he has autism, and she feels she needs help finding him the right care in order to work. She also wants to find great mental health resources for her panic attacks and her depression. She has overcome so much, so she hopes to be a certified life coach in the next 5 years after receiving her certificate, to help others. She is a new christian and has lots of questions. A great mentor for her would be someone who either 1) Understands her sons/family needs as they navigate autism and newly birthed twins 2) Someone who serves as a life coach or counselor who can encourage her on her vocational goals or 3) Someone who's whole family would want to be involved in "adopting" them and being part of each other's life, especially on the spiritual development of her and her household. Kiocia lives on the southside.Life Coach is longterm career goal, however she can work remotely or can work during school hours in any field that will help her reach her goalsLeah & Will Jarrett

Takira UlmerSpring 2021
Takira is a single mother to a 2 almost 3 year old boy Messiah. Takira's vocational goals are to work in the medical field as a CNA. Other goals include, finding daycare for Messiah so she can work full time but make enough income to live off of and afford his care. She would like to pursue drivers education and get her DL. She would also like to put aside savings once she is working to purchase a used car to make employment easier. She would also like to open up a checking account and make financial progress. In our time of knowing Takira, our quickest assesment as to whom would best be for her, is someone who desires to be motherly, show compassion, pursuit, and interest in her well being. She is young, and has gone through a lot of trauma and is raising her son on her own. She is very open, and her main love language is quality time and gifts. She can grow in motivation, communication and letting her yes be yes, but she is working hard at her goals. Dakeisha's goals include: growing her reading level, getting her GED, finding daycare for her youngest (8 month old), get her DL. Niki WrightonFall 2021
Niki, is a mother of 4 and her partner is Brandon (a previous JFL graduate). Niki is creative, and carries a lot of poise as she speaks. She is very invested in her kids education and does not want to start work until the baby is older. She has a special needs son and daughter (ages 8 &10), as well as a 2 year old an a 1 year old. Her vocational plan includes: getting remote job to earn some income to save for a good daycare later on, going back to school to complete her BA. Her long term career goal is to become a lactation consultant which she would need to pass the state test to become. Some of her roadblocks include: bipolar struggles, depression & anxiety, the small home and home management. She could use someone who has worked in the lactation field, or someone who has worked, raised kids and gone to school in a short period of time. She also needs someone who has parenting advice and tools to help manage her household and each child's needs. She is a believer, and is very open to growing her faith. One struggle has been when you spend time with her she wants to use up the whole time sharing her woes, she would do best paired with someone either with a counseling background who wants to serve her in that way, OR someone who isn't afraid to say, that is not the purpose of the time together. She too, is stubborn and does not always welcome or "hear" feedback until after a few times it is repeated, even if that feedback or advice is for her benefit. Heaven (1 year), Bella (3 years), Israel (8 years, 3rd grade), Tiana (11 years, 6th grade)Wants a remote job, go back to school for business management degree, and her career goal is to be a lactation consultant.

Tawanda's family has lived in Gilpin for generations and calls it home, as she finds good community here. She has a learning disability so finding work has been difficult. One of her biggest roadblocks is transportatiion and mobility as she cannot get around as easily. She wants to work in a custodial field, but she lacks the proper resources to get her to and from. She has two sons, both whom live with her. Her phone is not the most reliable, so to reach her you need to knock on her door as she is always home. Brandon JacksonSpring 2021
Brandon is a father of 4, his girlfriend and mother of his children just gradated from JFL (Niki). Brandon has some long work history gaps up until receiving employment with Mosquito Squad right after graduation. Brandon has his CDL and now the passenger permit required by GRTC. He desires to work Full time for GRTC by March 2022, so that they can afford better schooling for the kids and move out of Gilpin. Brandon has a 16 year old felony on his record, and that has hindered him from finding stable work up until now. Brandon is a believer, he is stuborn, and he battles with fear of rejection. So when the enemy plants fear in him, he tends to withdrawl, not return calls or stall his own goal progress. A good mentor for him would be someone who isn't affraid to pursue him hard, who can stand their ground with hard truth, yet with gentleness and love. He would do great with a male who cares about Brandon's spiritual development, as well as his development as a partner, and a parent- as he can use some growth and partnership on how to care for his household and what biblical leadership looks like. Or a husband and wife can adopt him and Niki and do activities together as two families. He has reliable transportation. Heaven (1 year), Bella (3 years), Israel (8 years, 3rd grade), Tiana (11 years, 6th grade)Seasonal job just ended, desires to work at GRTC and either make a life career there, or in 5-10 years start his own medical transport business.
