Unreal Engine 4		I built my own Desktop	It's OK	Upgrade to at least 16GB of RAM; Upgrade cooling system to be better/quieter; maybe add an SSD.	It's overall quite nice and pretty much destroys Unreal 4 at the highest editor settings (it does start to chug when I use a virtual 4K desktop via Nvidia Dynamic Super Resolution of course), but it could be quieter and 8GB does not handle my heavy multitasking, so I plan on buying an all-in-one water cooler for the CPU such as the Corsair H80i (this is overkill; the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is an excellent air cooler for the money and performs very well) in addition to a 16GB or possibly 32GB RAM kit. I suspect 32GB is very much overkill however this is something that I would personally like to benchmark in order to find out first hand. In general having as much as 32GB of ram is useful when doing lots of video work or when you have hundreds of internet tabs open. I generally have between probably 30 and 100 tabs open at a time, and 8GB certainly doesn't cut it for that. For someone who doesn't browse with more than 50 tabs at a time, 8GB would probably suffice easily, so doubling that to 16GB should leave plenty of space for various development environments and game engines to run. Code compiling and asset management also does take a rather long time so I would also consider an SSD for my project files to speed things up as this is generally an I/O bound operation. All in all, as long as I'm a little patient, wear some isolating headphones, and keep my multitasking in check, this is a pretty good machine for development and gaming alike.

Also I have 3 monitors that makes it super easy to do multiple things at the same time. Very helpfull and saves time. And finally, if you use a desktop and have a bit knowledge of building one yourself, or a friend of you does. Build one yourself! Saves you up to hundereds of dollars.

I buildt my computer 2 years ago and the only thing i stile need to upgrade (2 years after) is my GPU. Don`t try to save money when BUILDING a computer. My filosofi is this. If you can upgrade you GPU twice and not need any new hardware, then you build a good computer. Also get a decent PSU 1200W Alot of people think they can get a cheep one since it works high end hardware needs alot of pwer don`t skimp on it. Dont buy any brands build it your self. Hope it helps. I worked in IT and Development for 17 years if that will help convince you. Sorry my bad spelling in english.

You can get a lot more power with less money than buying a pre-built system - not to mention there is no pre-installed bloat-ware.

If you have the money, then go ahead and get what you want. You can always find great deals of you're just patient. :)

Use a SSD for system installation. Get 8gb ram or more. If you´re a programmer get a mechanical keyboard.

Otherwise, your system is gonna hang and work productivity will decay and waste your time. I also find the faster internet connection you are capable of receiving is almost just as vital for this work. Regards.

The processor doesn't need to be the latest and greatest, although, it should still be "very high end".

Secondly do NOT NOT NOT cheap out on a power supply. Always buy power supplies from reputable brands such as Seasonic, Corsair, etc; If you are using professional 3D modeling applications check performance benchmarks from a variety of GPUs sometimes you just need a workstation card or a gaming card will do what you need without breaking the bank. CPU wise there is no real reason to go AMD at the moment the single thread performance isn't there. Xeons are also not really helpful as you no not need ECC RAM go with an i5/i7. SSDs are nice for load times. 16GB is very nice to have.

Investing in a better CPU may result in having overkill power on your CPU, and lacking power with your GPU. Also, it's okay not to have the most expensive stuff out there. You can still get the performance you need.

Lots of RAM Powerful Intel CPU, don't bother with AMD SSDs everywhere unless for storage Powerful GPU, both nVidia and AMD works great Don't waste money on expensive other parts unless you have enough to buy great RAM, CPU and GPU. Those should be prio, any money left (except for covering the very basics of other parts) should go into SSD -> a not shit CPU cooler -> a cold and dust free case -> a bit more powerful PSU than you need in case you ever want to go SLI -> all other crap like a fancy keyboard or whatever.
