Sep 9-14Social Studies:Today we learned about 9/11 and its historical significance. The students watched a BrainPop video. We also watched a couple of minutes of the news to see how it is impacting our world today. No homework.
Comm Skills: Today we learned about IXL and began the diagnositc test. Keep practicing!
Tech Lit Brewers: Today the students learned about fonts and how different fonts are easier to read. What makes a good heading? No homework.
Social Studies: Today we read about 9/11 and how NYC has changed since 2001. No homework.
Comm Skills: Today we finished our goal setting. The students have goals in IXL and from our STAR reading.
Tech Lit Packers: Today we started talking about the Oriole Way. The students are starting to make a poster in Google Docs.

Social Studies: Today we took a quiz on the continents of the world. The students also worked on an inferencing assignment.
Comm Skills: Today we worked on writing a letter. Students need to finish the letter if they did not do so in class.

Lit in Action: Today, we reviewed synonyms and antonyms by playing SuperSleuth. Then students either worked on Reading Plus or Raz-Kids.

Sep 16-21Comm Skills: Today in class we began our first vocabulary unit. For tomorrow rough drafts of your letter are due.
Social Studies: Today we began our sketch notebooks. The students completed a map of the world and put it on page 1. We will be taking notes throughout the year in here.
Tech Lit Brewers: Today we worked on our Google Docs. The students looked at examples of headings and applied them to their own heading.
Math: Guidance with Mrs. Broten
Science: Today we took notes on Ch 1 Nature of Science, Section 2. Vocabulary: Hypothesis, Infer, Controlled Experiment, Variables, Dependent, Independent, and Constant. Homework - Section 1 and 2 Worksheet. Answers come from notes taken in class.
Literacy in Action: Today, we reviewed close reading. Then we took notes, practiced and applied strategies for finding the main idea. Students worked on Reading Plus or Raz Kids.
Comm Skills: Today in class we set our first IXL goals. Next we worked on our vocabulary words as teams. Make sure you finish your list. Final drafts of letters will be due on Thursday.
Social Studies: Today we worked on our sketch noting. The students learned about the 5 Themes of Geography and took notes. We also watched two video clips.
Tech Lit Packers: Today we worked on our Google Docs. The students looked at examples of headings and applied them to their own heading.
Math: Today we started Ch 1 Ratios and Rates. We took notes and learned about how we can use GCF (Greatest Common Factor) and LCM (Least Common Multiple) to solve real World problems. We will continue to practice this skill. Homework: Practice math facts (multiplication) using Ipad, flash cards, online games, or just writing down the Multiples and or Factors of numbers 1-12.
Science: We reviewed section 1 and 2 in our Nature of Science chapter, we went over the homework worksheet and talked about how we can find answers or problem solve through homework in the future. We then read part of Section 3 (Models in Science) and took notes about the 3 types of Models in Science. Physical, Computer, and Idea Models.
Literacy in Action: Today, we took notes, practiced and applied strategies for finding theme. Students worked on Reading Plus or Raz Kids.
Comm Skills: Today in class we worked on our Word Wisdom page 3. Please finish your 3 sentences. We also proofread our letters. Rough drafts are due tomorrow.
Social Studies: Today we watched a video on the 5 Themes of Geography. We also did a walk-talk with a partner to study. After this we created a graphic organizer where the students were placing examples of the 5 Themes of Geography.
Tech Lit Brewers: Today we worked on both our BookCreators and our Google Docs. How can we make something easier to read? Google Docs will be due on Friday.

Math: Today we continue more GCF and LCM Practice. No homework
Science: As a final project for Chapter 1 Nature of Science. The students are creating a google slides presentation that shows all of what they learned and understood about the chapter. Key vocabulary, concepts and they can use any pictures or videos to depict what they learned. They can also use notes, book creator, or the book. This is due Tuesday.
Literacy in Action: Students played STARE! to improve memory and collaboration skills. They took notes, applied, and practiced predicting.
Comm Skills:Today in class we turned in our IXL goals as well as Word Wisdom 1-1. Students also handed in the final copy of their letter if they had not done so.
Social Studies:Today we took our quiz on the 5 Themes of Geography. No homework this weekend.
Tech Lit Packers:Both Packers and Brewers need to turn in their Google Doc on Making a Better Heading. Turn this in to Google Classroom.

Social Studies: Today we worked with directions. The students need to submit their assignment on Intermediate Directions to Google Classroom.
Tech Lit Packers: Today we worked with our groups on collaborating on a Google Doc.
Math: Introduced Divisibility Rules as a tool to use when simplifing ratios and fractions.
Science: Literacy in Action: Today we took notes, practiced and applied how cause and effect. Then students worked on Reading Plus or Raz-Kids.
Comm Skills: Today we finished reading the story Eleven. The students used our reading strategies on page 40 of their notebooks.

Sep 30Comm Skills: Today we learned about Characterization. Make sure you finish the 4 character traits. We also set new weekly goals in IXL and reflected on our goals from last week. If you did not turn in your IXL sheet, make sure you do.
Social Studies: Today we finished our Otzi assignment. Finish all 5 Themes of Geography if you did not do so.
Tech Lit Brewers: Today students finished working on their group projects. Turn in to Google Classroom.
