We are sending this letter to bring you a story idea for the ECOO StoryByte Recommentations. The article is about the involvement of grades 7 to 12 students that were invited to participate in iStudio21 project, a Web based musical collaboration project launched across the province within the twelve French language school boards of Ontario.
This project was launched 3 years ago and has enjoyed enormous success, involving more than 350 students from across the province.
Very briefly, this project aims to create a collaborative song through the Web, using the Brightspace environment and the choice of DAW systems such as Garage Band, ProTools, Audacity and other Web based or computer or tablet based applications. A series of training workshops ranging from writing lyrics, song structure, musical improvisation and audio equipment and microphone knowhow used for recording are available for the project. Workshops are led by well known professional francophone artists. We use the videoconferencing system available in all francophone schools to communicate with students. We had sessions with over 23 schools participating at one time! Then we invite the enrolled students to create and compose the melody and lyrics of a song based on certain criteria. Finally, we propose adding a variety of instruments (guitar, drums, bass, other instruments, etc.) to the retained original song to conclude the project in late April with the voice. Note that at each stage, participants and professional artists, which this year included: Stef Paquette, Julie Kim Beaudry, Jean-Michel Ouimet and Shawn Sasyniuk, choose the best score for each instrument. The winners of each stage of the creation of this song will be invited to participate in the recording of the final version in mid-May in a professional recording studio.
In addition, we use the final recording session as the perfect time to discuss the importance of information related to copyright and execute a common work of reporting with end members of the musical collaboration through SOCAN.

We invite you to visit our website at http://istudio21.ca order to know more about our project. In closing, we thank you for your attention to this proposal. If the proposal interests you, do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions about this project.
We feel this project is a excellent template for all schools to use the Brightspace enviroment in a different matter ansd to explore other technologies to engage our students. We would love to present the project at the ECOO conference!
