We’re devastated not to be able to sing for you all in the next few weeks, but we feel it’s important to take this measure in order to ensure the health and safety of our membership, volunteers, audience, and respective communities and to minimize contact with large groups in order to protect the most vulnerable among us. The silver lining to all of this uncertainty and fear has been the confirmation of how strong our bonds are. Our membership and leadership have responded to the ever-changing events with such flexibility and grace, making it once again clear how much this group of people nurtures and relies on one another. Because of the effects that widespread cancellations are having on our artists, the board made the decision to create a fund to offer an advance payment of half their expected fee to all artists, as well as to reimburse non-refundable airfare already purchased by musicians. In addition to foregoing the income from what was previously expected to be a high-selling concert, the additional expenses are significant, but we feel compelled to do what we can for the wellbeing of our talented artists. 63	3/12/2020 20:34:07	Rackham Choir	Detroit	MI	48236	3/12/2020	Choral Concerts: Singing and Sipping, Bach Cantata 29 and The Coffee Cantata	March 13 and 15, 2020	After the Governor of Michigan declared a State of Emergency late Tuesday evening/early Wednesday morning, our executive committee decided that we needed to cancel these two performances planned for this weekend. The guidance/request from the state was to forgo gatherings of more than 100 people and to cancel things like concerts, even though there have so far been only 2 presumptive positive cases. One such case is in the county in which these two concerts were to be performed. We will pay our orchestra players for the rehearsal time they have already put in and will pay our principal soloists and organist 1/3 of their contracted fee. Luckily, one of our venues was not charging us for space but instead was giving us a percentage of the ticket revenue. That venue will refund in full the tickets they sold. For the other venue, we are offering a non-fee credit toward another concert. We also encouraged ticket purchasers to convert their purchase to a donation to help offset our losses. On Monday, we will announce cancellation of our fundraiser/70th anniversary season celebration, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We plan to reschedule for next fall. We will cancel our weekly rehearsals for the next two weeks and reassess before April 1 about how to prepare for and whether to hold our scheduled May 2 concert, which is the annual showcase for our High School Interns. We hope to reschedule this weekend's cancelled performance to a time in late May or early June, if the public health situation allows and if we can reconvene the performers. Caroline Firman	IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT THIS WEEKEND'S CONCERTS The California Department of Public Health put out an advisory on March 11, 2020, finding that gatherings of 250 people or more should be postponed or cancelled to protect public health and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19. In addition, gatherings of fewer than 250 people should not take place unless people can be distanced by at least 6 feet. In light of this, the Sacramento Master Singers has made the difficult decision to cancel our March 14th and 15th concerts this weekend. The health and safety of our patrons and the community are our priority and we are very sorry to have to do this. The Board of Directors is trying to determine if we can reschedule the concert to a different date. We will be in touch with further details about refunds, exchanges and a possible rescheduled date as soon as possible. We ask for your patience with our small organization while we determine the best way to handle the situation.
