Thyroid-Related Neurological Disorders and Complications in ChildrenCongenital hypothyroidism is a condition of thyroid hormone deficiency present at birth. Approximately 1 in 4000 newborn babies has a severe deficiency of thyroid function. If untreated for several months after birth, severe congenital hypothyroidism can lead to growth failure and permanent intellectual disability. In addition to cognitive outcomes, congenital hypothyroidism can also cause a range of other neurological sequelae, including abnormal muscle tone, ataxia, and strabismus and motor incoordination.http://www.pedneur.com/article/S0887-8994(14)00762-0/fulltext#sec3.1IvaPozderacMedRi6. godina

Maternal stress effects fetal brain development through epigenetic modificationst was obseved that stressful events during prenancy and early childhood may lead to significant psychiatric and behavioral dissorders later in life (such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, autism…) due to epigenetic alterations effecting fetal brain development.http://www.reproduction-online.org/content/146/5/R175.long
