|The Babadook.||2014||Jennifer Kent||2017|
Oh yeah this is great. Love the ambiguity & suspense. Weird bit at the end though
|The VVitch||2016||Robert Eggers||2017|
Fun! Twisty & enjoyed the post-story story
|Kill List||2011||Ben Wheatley||26-Oct-2017|
|A Dark Song||2017||Liam Gavin||26-Oct-2017|
YES! Super dark and suspenseful & the last 20 minutes is insane
|The Innkeepers||2011||Ti West||27-Oct-2017|
Really enjoyed. Good characters and good slow tension goes up and up and up and up
|Blood Glacier||2013||Marvin Kren||27-Oct-2017||Silly but funny|
|John Dies at the End||2012||Don Coscarelli||29-Oct-2017||Don't bother|
Moody and visual and lush and cool.
David Robert Mitchell
Don't get the hype on this one. Nice audio/visuals but the metaphor made no sense.
|A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night||2014|
Ana Lily Amirpour
Whoops I fell asleep and had to watch this twice. Really nice, slow, dark, not scary
A bit by-the-numbers cabin in the woodsy altho the ending is pretty sweet. A changing relationship can be pretty terrifying in innocuous ways.
Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie
Galactic horror in a hospital basement but kinda gory w/out being psychological to match. Last 1/3 is kinda silly
|Under the Shadow||2016||Babak Anvari||5-Nov-2017|
Super scary lack of control and agency due to war/misogyny/ghosts. One of the best
|Bone Tomahawk||2015||S Craig Zahler||30-Dec-2017|
A long walk in the desert to meet some cannibals. Not really horror IMO but the characters on the long walk are fun. Worst bit is the infected ankle just looks painful.
|The Invitation||2016||Karyn Kusama||1-Jan-2018|
Wasn't sure about this one but it just got better and better as it went on
|Get Out||2017||Jordan Peele||2-Jan-2018|
What? Oh heck. Fun, then really really not fun. Teacup sound is still scary to this day
|Green Room||2016||Jeremy Saulnier||2-Jan-2018|
Didn't live up to its hype IMO. Good use of pain & violence but not sold on the storyline esp the end
|The Autopsy of Jane Doe||2016||André Øvredal||3-Jan-2018|
Ha, fun & creepy while it's just 3 of them but went on a bit long.
Shit me. wow. yeah
|Tucker & Dale vs Evil||2-Feb-2018|
I don't think I'm made for horror comedy, sorry lads
|Deep Red||1975||Dario Argento||11-Mar-2018|
My first Giallo. That music. Those visuals. The pace. Everything seems unexpected. Love it
|Eyes of My Mother||2016||Nicolas Pesce||12-Mar-2018|
Enjoyed, a lot. IDK why people complain about the character's motivations being unclear - it was settled in the first 5 minutes that that is how people behave, so just deal with it. Interesting metaphor kidnap-victim-subbing-relationship-between-kidnappers. Beautiful.
Plot has zero logic, fx are nasty, pacing is whack. Nothing to care about in any character. Had some really nice moments of quiet but generally dumb.
|Night of the Living Dead||1968|
Cool, high-tension characters. Faculty of horror ep tought me a lot more.
Solid. Must've worked well as a book too. Funny commentary on marriage
|Dawn of the Dead||1978|
cool. Not as tight as "night of .." but more open, violent. Pacing is still weird, and it's 2.5 hours
|Black Christmas||1974||Bob Clark||28-Mar-2018|
Brilliant! All the characters are so good! And the tension buildup in the 3rd act is unstoppable
More "slasher"-y than Black xmas, but nothing like as good.
|The Love Witch|
Kooky and kindof fun but I didn't enjoy it enough
Beautiful and ambiguous. Not bad. A little Stalkerish, but colourful
|A Quiet Place||2018||??||2-Apr-2018|
Kind of silly, frustratingly daft characters, but nice and quiet
Slow & quiet w/ bursts of bloody hackslashing.
|Happiness of the Katakuris|
|ABCs of death|
