WS1WR1. All CAP governments ban single use plastics, including water bottles, straws, lids and utensils.Routt County has staff assisting restaurants with styrofoam ban. Identified recommended actions: Track what other communities are doing to learn how to get similar ordinances passed (RecycleColorado). Consider targeting straws and promoting wooden forks next.County continues to support City's styrofoam ban efforts. Straws would be the next low hanging fruit. Compostable option available (agave - paper does not hold) but cost twice as much (e.g., EarthPlus distributed by Sysco cost 2.6 cents each). Interest in forming a sub-committee to look at supporting the transition to compostable straws. How to incentivize? Plastic ban/landfill fee to support? What are other municipalities doing to support this?City of Steamboat Springs Recycling coordinator working on a styrofoam ban (state law). Businesses have until July 2024 to use styrofoam.
