1. The NTDB provides fare revenue and trips which are used to estimate average fare per trip

2. The NTDB provides average cost per trip for buses. This averages across the different sized buses and so likely underestimates costs on routes with articulated buses and overestimates cost on routes with 40ft buses.

3. I took the average of the last four years capital costs divided by the 2016 trips times 67% to estimate the per trip capital costs. This estimate assumes that two thirds of the capital spending goes to replacment and one third goes to growing service which is likely over allocates towards the amount for new service and underestimates the capital cost per trip.

4. The subsidy per trip was calculated by adding up the average system operating and capital cost per revenue hour of bus service minus the fare revenue divided by the hourly ridership reported for that route.
